Can I also say Jackman, coincidentally, you've been named after a very special Winemaker, & a particularly nice bottle of red! [emoji485]

Now a former Super Sleuth has mentioned, perhaps intuitively both Anketell and Spectacles as a possible location for SS.

Now, just so happens that there is a Telstra exchange 'a stones throw' from the intersection of Anketell Road and Spectacles Drive. Location of exchange is indicated on below map - photos of exchange to follow.

I would be interested to know which exit was the end of the Kwinana freeway back in 1996?

Janwa, great reading thx, so they don’t know for certain why SKs stop their predatory ways, but speculate it might be due to the decline in testosterone levels – due to aging.
Some of the suggestions were:* Maybe they get tired or bored and just don't want to do it anymore.* Perhaps if a victim struggles and spooks the attacker, the killer "might think then, 'maybe I don't want to do this anymore because I might get caught' or, 'I want to stop and reflect on the carnage I wreaked in the past'." As we age, we do reflect upon our past –that’s what normal people do!
* The realization of the ability to collect DNA evidence, left by the most meagre material. Through television dramas the public have become aware, how DNA is collected.
I’d think being a SK would be quite stressful. Surly they’d become somewhat nervous whenever a police siren is active. Not bothering to make any long-term plans - always looking over their shoulder, awaiting the TRG to come bursting through the front door – It’s certainly not a good way to live!

Hi Jackman This attachment gives good basic info on testosterone levels. It would be interesting to know what if any medications the alleged has taken in his adult life which may have impacted his libido at times.I personally don't think he has been concerned or nervous if he has got a narcissistic streak, he would think he was invincible. He may well have never offended again after his second partnership and if he did have any fears of being caught they would have receded in the past 20 yrs. https://www.medicinenet.com/high_and_low_testosterone_levels_in_men/views.htm

Info on Thomas Rd/Kwinana Freeway
Thomas Road is a major west-east road in the far southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, connecting Rockingham Road (part of Highway 1) in Kwinana's industrial area with Kwinana's urban area, before bridging Perth's agricultural fringe to meet the South Western Highway in Byford, just south of Armadale.[SUP][1][/SUP] Thomas Road was the terminus of the Kwinana Freeway from 1993 until 2002, and presently serves as the terminus of Tonkin Highway after its extension beyond Albany Highway in 2003.
Thomas Road forms the entirety of State Route 21.[SUP][2][/SUP]

Interesting Spinnaker how close Anketel and the Spectacles are to the Freeway and Wellard. Get off the Freeway at Thomas turn down Johnson Rd then on to Miller

There's an exit onto Anketel Rd. I've used it many times, but I've always turned in the other direction going east, so I've never seen the exchange. I think turning West onto Anketel Rd takes you to the Kwinana Motorplex speedway. When did they start the site works for the Kwinana Motorplex? I presume Water, Electricity, telephone works would've started years before it was finished.

Spinnaker,

Does this information help?

11 September 1994: Extension of Kwinana Freeway from Forrest Road to Thomas Road Kwinana opened by Kim Beazley. [SUP]3[/SUP]

1999-2001: Construction of the South West Metropolitan Railway down the centre of the freeway alignment - this was done by relocating 16 kilometres of existing northbound carriageway 15 metres westwards. Also part of the works was the construction of a 12km freewayextension southwards from Thomas Road to Safety Bay Road, includinginterchanges at Mortimer and Mundijong Road and freeway overpasses at Millar Road. [SUP]6[/SUP]

25 February 2001: The second bridge opened to traffic and increased the number of traffic lanes from seven to 10 and formed part of a $230 million upgrade of the Kwinana Freeway and its extension to Safety Bay Road. [SUP]2[/SUP]

12 March 2006: The connection of the RoeHighway Stage 7, from South Street to the Kwinana Freeway, officially opened to traffic. [SUP]1[/SUP]

December 2006: Works commence on theKwinana Freeway Extension from Safety Bay Road (SR18) Interchange at Baldivis to Pinjarra Road at North Yunderup. [SUP]7[/SUP]

Saw this and thought it was quite interesting, if it is correct (post person said she is married to a criminal defence barrister), about what MIGHT be happening within the legal preparations for the accused trial.

QUOTE:

My husband is a criminal defence barrister. I can assure you we do not have 'plea deals'.
It sounds like the reporters are getting confused. The defence counsel and prosecution will certainly discuss and negotiate charges and the plea (guilty/not guilty) before the trial. For example the defence may notify the prosecution that their client intends to enter a guilty plea in an attempt to get the DPP to drop some of the lesser charges. But neither the prosecution, the accused, nor the judge are bound by anything agreed to during these discussions.
There is definitely no such thing as a plea deal/bargain in Western Australia.
TL;dr - counsel for both sides certainly do discuss things before the trial and sentencing, but the old 'if you plead guilty we will only sentence you to 5 years' is not a thing in WA.

Spectacles – The Bibra Lake Regional Park is situated between Thomas and Anketell Rds. Within that region there are only two sealed roads spanning north-south (McLaughlin Rd & Spectacles Dve). Although umpteen tracks exist they don’t seem to be sealed.

The areas south-west region appears to be the most dense.

https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/32%C2%B013'26.1%22S+115%C2%B049'50.9%22E/@-32.2239034,115.8264119,1010m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d-32.223908!4d115.830794

It looks as though the Telstra exchange has been there a considerable time – at Anketell Rd alongside the Mandogalup Fire Station (Nth of Spectacles Dve). Presumably the fire station is manned all the time.

Periodically the Water & Rivers Commission would have checked the ground water levels at various points all around the lake as well as nutrient samples, from the lake itself - via boat. A vast amount of the area isn’t entirely secluded.

I don’t know anything about coordinates, but how does this area fit in with the 180 degrees, mentioned recently?

I’m not sure if there fire station was there in 96 and also if it is manned - it could be a voluntary country fire service.

From a UBD map in 1998 shows where the freeway ends at Thomas Road.

Thanks for this apoptosisfutz, great to see the old maps.

As JanWA noted earlier both Spectacles and Wellard were easily accessible from the freeway exit back in 96/97. IMO these areas would therefore have been easy to scope out and re-visit as just at the end of the freeway.

Also both Wellard and Spectacles quite accessible from Claremont, heading down through Fremantle - if the CSK went straight from Claremont to Wellard for example, it is unlikely he would have used the freeway as no freeway access nearby.

The road map is excellent apoptosisfutz, was there an existing sealed road on the western side of the lake?

The fire brigade was opened in Oct 2002
https://photos.liveitseeit.com/FireGear/BFSWABrigades/WA-BFS-Mandogalup/i-F6hhtm5
Thanks Jackman for clarifying that the volunteer fire station was built in 2002, so appears the Telstra exchange next to Spectacles was in an isolated position back in 96/97.

Pipidinny Road was not sealed in 97 so I do not think it mattered too much whether road was sealed or not.

Yes Spinnaker, isolated. I’d presume it would have been very secluded – at night. January is warm, so during the day there’d be minimal people trekking through, and perhaps young boys frequenting the lake.

The Spectacles Drive may have had a limestone surface – for accessing the lake. I suppose the only other visitors would have been, the local shire performing the annual fire break checks and Water & Rivers. The EPA would check how the flora and fauna are performing – how the frogs are holding up. Can anyone think who else would go there?

Did all exchanges look like houses? The Canning Vale Exchange looked like a house, some are small fibro buildings. I wonder would there be a staff room or lockers for staff. MOO

There are probably lockers. They don't all look like a little house. Apparently, the smaller exchanges have lots of drawers containing electrical equipment, a toilet and small hand basin. The exchange on Albany Hwy, Cannington has a microwave, TV and lounge etc. PD mentioned beforehand.

Below is an image of inside a telephone exchange. No wonder we get the occasional crossed-line!

Thanks Jackman for all the information. So there isn’t much room in the Exchanges for people. I suppose enough to be able to work on the equipment. Do you think the CSK could have used any of the Exchanges to hide a victim? MOO

It would depend on how much room is inside and if he was the “sole” technician rostered on to attend breakdowns in that vicinity. The Spectacles exchange is located within the south-eastern suburbs and close to home – possibly included within his after-hours jurisdiction.

As telephone exchanges are major infrastructure, and many households affected if they faulted, I’d think higher management would need to be notified of any critical breakdowns – they’d all have keys too – wouldn’t want management turning up.

Presumably the accused CSK had keys to many buildings and exchanges. Taking a victim to an exchange would require a certain degree of confidence and the risk of damages occurring, during a struggle - how would he explain damages to equipment – surely he wouldn’t risk it. JMO.
