11.30AM LATEST: A Gympie woman has recalled witnessing "violent" and "fast" movements in the back of a blue sedan as she drove on the Nambour Connection Road.

Belinda Russell told the court she was driving with her husband and two children on December 7, 2003.

She said she saw a man in the back seat of a blue sedan her punching downwards into the car's cabin.

"It was continual, violent and quite fast," she said.

Mrs Russell said she saw arms and a shoe come up "in a defensive action", trying to kick the person away.

The committal hearing has been adjourned for the day.
The court heard the final two witnesses would give evidence on Thursday.
The committal hearing will then be adjourned until February

A new smartphone application has been developed to help Australian parents provide information to police in an attempt to locate their children if they go missing.

The Australian Police Child ID App was adapted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Child ID App in the United States. This collaborative effort has seen the Australian Federal Police (AFP) create a tool that will help parents and guardians more easily collect and send important information about their child/children to authorities in the event of a disappearance or abduction.

The application allows families to store photographs and vital information about their children on their mobile phone. In the devastating event that a child goes missing, this information can be immediately provided to authorities.

While the vast majority of children who go missing are quickly returned safely, usually within 24 hours of going missing, the application can be used to quickly provide crucial information to police, assisting them to expedite their search.

The application also includes safety advice and checklists for parents on keeping children safe, information about what to do in the hours immediately after a child goes missing and provides quick and efficient access to emergency contact phone numbers.

Available at no cost for Android and iPhone users, the application can be downloaded now:

Just been reading through the witness testimony notes and I'm shocked! How can so many people see so much and not report it. Some of these witnesses should be ashamed of themselves. Poor Daniel, could of been stopped if someone had of acted on their instinct instead of ignoring it or not wanting to get involved.

And am I right in thinking that he was captive for a period of time? Or are they just pulling out all the witnesses to show they have enough evidence to go to trial? and how did they know where to search for him?

so many questions

I wonder similar things Melbourne girl ... I hope he wasn't held captive. He went missing in the globe shoes didn't he? I hope the morcombes have been given the police's best theory of events otherwise it would be untenable to sit through

Is it just two witnesses so far who claim to have seen him some time after he went missing? From the coverage posted by Marly I read the testimony of the woman at the service station who said she saw him with an older very well dressed man, and the man in Port Macquarie who gave a similar description of the man who was with the boy.

Bernard Rumbel told the Brisbane Magistrates Court he believed he saw Daniel in Port Macquarie in NSW on September 2, 2004. He said he was waiting outside a shop for his son when a young boy approached him and asked for help. Mr Rumbel said the boy twice told him his name was Daniel Morcombe before being berated by a well-dressed, tall man in his 40s with whom he left a short time later. Mr Rumbel said he contacted the police a few months later after seeing a missing person advertisement about Daniel on a pizza box.

An elderly woman claims she saw a boy matching Daniel's description at a service station near Townsville in January 2004.

Mrs Lincoln said she had stopped at a service station at Yabulu to buy a paper and was walking back to her car when she saw a man "exclusively dressed" standing with a boy. The child standing next to him tried desperately to catch her attention. She said the boy smiled at her and mouthed 'come on' and gestured to her paper, which had a photo of Daniel on the front page.
Mrs Lincoln said she then went to walk past and say 'hello Daniel', when she said the man noticed the interaction between the two and threw the boy into the nearby men's toilets, swearing.

She eventually gave her statement to police in 2006, after walking into a police station with a newspaper article which identified a potential suspect in Daniel's disappearance and asking to see a photo of what the man looked like when he was released from jail.

While attempting to clarify the clothes the man she saw with the child was wearing, Mr Meehan asked if the man looked like a "drug baron".

Chief magistrate Brendan Butler interrupted to say it might help if Mr Meehan explained what a drug baron looked like.

Despite the sometimes complicated nature of Mrs Lincoln's evidence, the woman said she was convinced the boy she saw was Daniel. "He told me he was," she said.

Speaking outside the Brisbane Magistrates Court on day seven of the committal hearing into their son's murder, Bruce and Denise Morcombe also reminded people of the importance of offering help after hearing from a series of witnesses who saw strange occurrences on the day Daniel disappeared.

None called the police at the time or tried to help.

"I think some old-fashioned values (are) important; looking after your neighbour and being interested in what other children are doing in your environment," Mr Morcombe said.

"And perhaps just pulling (over) at the side of the road and saying 'are you OK?' would help in some circumstances, no question. Technology has improved these days; everyone has a camera in their pocket, on their phone."

5th Dec 2012

FATHER Joe Duffy has called for a day of "mass grief" on Friday as Daniel Morcombe is finally laid to rest.

The parish priest of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church - where Daniel attended - says it is "really an occasion for people to express mass grief".

"Why? Because Daniel's teenage exuberance that people didn't know about until after he died challenged their imagination," he said.

"Prior to his disappearance he was just simply another teenager on the Sunshine Coast. After it, he became a focus for the care and concern we need to have for young people.

The Morcombe's are amazing people. I am so sad for them at the moment. Tomorrow they finally bury their beautiful boy. What they have done to turn their personal tragedy around to help other kids is amazing. I feel helpless being away from home and wish I could go tomorrow to pay my respects.

I am so sorry this happened to Daniel or happens to any child. We as adults need to watch out for kids, all kids.

RIP beautiful boy,may you know that all of Australia is thinking of you, may your mum and dad and brothers find some more strength to survive another very difficult day.

AS thousands don a dash of red tomorrow to celebrate the life of murdered schoolboy Daniel Morcombe, his parents will be thinking of those whose loved ones remain lost.
Bruce Morcombe said while his family had to face the "finality" of a funeral for Daniel, there were other families "worse off".

"There are families who have suffered loss and haven't had the opportunity to say goodbye," he said.

Mr Morcombe said he was "relieved" Daniel would finally be laid to rest, nine years to the day after the 13-year-old disappeared while waiting for a bus in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

"It's hard to put it down in words. It's more relief that we've got to this point," he said.

"We all knew the result was not great. We've known that for the best part of nine years."
