Firstly, this is not judgement on anyone's comments at all - as the same thoughts sprang into my mind as soon as I saw who was arrested.

So, I'm a Clinical Psychologist who specialised in working with adolescents (until I had children and went into private practice) - and I've just got to say that all of the judgements about DJK being 'nerdy', 'weedy', 'geeky' are very telling. It's what would have happened for him his whole life, I suspect. And it definitely would have worn him down. (combined with other stuff, I'm sure - this doesn't erupt out of nowhere!)

Even the way he has been compared unfavourably to MH, would have been familiar to him. He is just so far from the 'popular' guy that MH seems to represent. It's these kids, as we saw in Columbine, who just build and build rage inside and then explode.

Just my thoughts :twocents:

I would really like to know why & how DK was allowed to hold onto his book

First time that I have ever seen anyone in handcuffs holding anything, don't buy the fact that he was upset or 'needed' it for some reason, what do you guys think?

BBM ('bolded by me' - for the newcomers)

Really astute observations, SW. It's self-perception that counts for everything, isn't it?

So true Ausgirl. The brain is one almighty thing - it still amazes me how our thoughts can change the direction our life takes, how we act, how we interact with others, the choices we make. I know at the low points in my life I've been so aware of how self-deprecation can undermine even the most mundane of daily tasks.

I reckon his mind is one messy mess :scared: Probably so much self-deprecation but deluded himself into thinking the supposed lies could fix it all.

There is still that evidence of sexual activity to fit into the picture though. And the 1½ hours between them walking home till Morgan was found dying. Police said that everything was contained to the bedroom.

Yeah, I keep changing my mind on what happened!! I think probably there was something sexual, but then, what if it was just Morgan feeling bad for DJK and inviting him in..

Either way it's still heartbreaking. Poor Morgan.

Seriously can't wait for all the pieces to fall together.

Probably just to keep him happy and keep him co-operating.

Welcome Northern Beaches! Are you a local? Good to have you here.

RSBM

With regard to larceny, it seems that in NSW all larceny charges are considered the same .. no $ value attached to the offense. Though other states do attach a $ value - such as Qld. (Was looking at this last night to see if I could get some hints about what was taken.)

"Are all stealing offences the same?

In a word, yes. All larcenies are treated the same in the eyes of the law with no differentiating between the nature of what was taken according to s 116 of the Crimes Act in New South Wales and Victoria. In contrast, Queensland has a clear value distinction in relation to theft."

I am local. In fact I drove through Watson Street last night on my way back to the Northern Beaches from the Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney. I am amazed at how small this street actually is but now it has this horrible event etched into its history. This murder actually took place in very close proximity to the last major bus stop before reaching the Harbour Bridge. Had this murder occurred 1 day later then it could have created traffic chaos on the morning of Monday 9th September depending on how much of the area Police would have wanted to seal off for investigation.

Regarding larceny. The reason why I stated that it would have to be a fair sum of money that was stolen is because I think DJK could have got away with stealing even a couple of hundred of dollars without anyone noticing that it is missing and that money may not look suspicious in the possession of DJK.

Exactly. And, as always, 'the devil's in the detail'.

We might know more after next week's mention. Depends what the accused decides to do regards any plea.

That "missing" hour or so still has me puzzled.

Apart from motive, and means:

Where was the knife to start with, and where is it now? Did DJK bring it with him, or was it already in MH's place - and if so, where? In the bedroom?

How did DJK overpower MH or otherwise render him unable to defend himself?

What type of knife was used? Was it short-bladed, or did the alleged perp only stab "gently" so to speak? Short-bladed would still manage to do major damage in the side of the neck, as previously discussed. So would scissors, even nail scissors. So would a modeling knife eg an Exacto knife - was DJK into little models as well as sci-fi and games?

There is still a LOT that we don't know, and can only speculate about - which may be counter-productive. A lot of the character "analysis" is based on the alleged perp's appearance, and a couple of comments by people who had seen him around.

LB and/or Alioops: would we get MORE or LESS information released if he pleads guilty? If he were to plead not guilty, would there be extra info that comes out in court over a trial? If he pleads guilty, would the judge simply sentence him and either not release any information, or even apply a suppression order for whatever reason?

We need the legal brains here.... ;)

The other thing that I was thinking it could have been was a money jar .. you know, a receptacle that people drop their spare change into each evening, and then get amazed by how much money they've accumulated. JR may have been able to tell police if something like that was missing.

Though I guess it may have been heavy ... and he sure would have jingled a lot running down the street afterwards!

For all we know MH just invited DJK in because he felt sorry for him and thought 'why not just have a few beers with this guy' and things went haywire from there.

I've been thinking about this too Mrs G. If this happened, it truly breaks my heart.

Larceny would fit with stalking.

He could have an entire collection of things belonging to his targets.

As far as the sexual activity - I say once again, if this was a girl found murdered with her pants off, no one would speculate she invited her attacker in for sex.

The MURDER tells me that it wasn't consensual anything.

Speculating that Morgan was living his entire life in the closet is not only offensive possibly to the family and his memory, it is also totally unsupported by what we know about him.

:cow:

From everything we know about Morgan, this is exactly what happened.

Incompetent failure of a human being takes the life of a much loved successful human being for no good reason apart from their own inadequacy.

Happens all the time...only the good die young. Usually the victim is female but I have no doubt Morgan was taken by surprise, literally, by this worm.

I'm going to compare it to Jason Downie, another reject who decided to murder the object of his desire.

We found it all out.

First of all he handed himself in...then he turned around and reversed his guilty plea to "not guilty" because he didn't want his mommy finding out.

LE then forced him to admit the truth to his mother - can't remember how - and he pled guilty again.

We found out at sentencing what he'd done, why, etc.

It boiled down to the same old - young incompetent failure of a man, raping and murdering his object of lust because she turned him down.

This scrawny 19 year old kid not only stabbed his victim to death while raping her, he also stabbed and killed both of her parents. Her father was an enormous man but JD took him by surprise in the middle of the night.

No one could believe such a 100 lb weakling could cause so much death and destruction, all by himself, with only a kitchen knife...but he did.

:cow:

Oh Spencer Reed. Weird, geeky, brainy....wonderful!! :blushing:

I am such a fangirl of his.

With respect - how productive can we be, anyhow? We won't be getting much new news for possibly months.. and we have to talk about -something- or what's the point of having a thread?

Speaking for myself, I am not at all offering "analysis" but just wondering and pondering and poking about in it, because .. well, it's a bit of a strange crime, and that's what I do. Trying to understand, speculating.

It's not really meant to be useful as such - as yeah, what use can any of this be, realistically?

You've raised ALL the questions burning my brain right now, up there. I think it's going to get a bit tedious, all the waiting..

I totally understand your feelings SS. If it is all BS then rumours have been flying for nothing. But I think we are speculating about info published in the media.

"Mr Huxley is believed to have let the 20-year-old suspect into his Neutral Bay flat …."

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/10/08/14/54/huxley-killer-hoped-pair-would-have-sex

"THE killer of Morgan Huxley may have attacked him while he was having sex, police believe."

And there are many, many people who stay in the closet practically their whole lives .. Rock Hudson jumps to mind immediately.

My theory re stolen money is that maybe MH made an ATM withdrawal not long before his death, maybe to get drinks at the Oaks and that money was missing.

Can't stop thinking about it all and so grateful for Websleuths to know I am not alone!

Having studied psych, I've spent a little time over the years analysing that situation and I won't bore you with my various findings... except to say that I clearly, in my goofy and gormless way back then, had crossed some of sort of line within him, to the point where he couldn't hold back his contempt any longer.

And that, I have concluded, was the base note emotion of what was going on - resentment, and contempt.

Anyway (I say, finally getting to my long-winded point) - I'm curious as to whether anyone else has come across this sort of person - the 'quiet sociopath'. As I honestly think DJK probably is one... we might get some insights. And I'm nosy like that. :seeya:
I spent several years working for what I would call a low functioning sociopath. He used the pretence of being devoutly religious to present with a conscience. Watching him reason was fascinating.

My experience of a pure sociopath (this fellow was a brilliant academic in computer engineering and physics) is that they don't feel contempt for people at all. They just enjoy tormenting people.

Rock Hudson was the biggest surprise.
And even if it was the case with MH, there's no shame. People do what they have to do to live in their family and community. It's their business how they deal with things. What goes in the bedroom should stay there - provided it's legal and between consenting adults. IMO :)

Nowadays, there is :tmi: :yuck:

ETA: Thought re the larceny charge - perhaps accused stole the money (in or out of MH wallet), to make it look like a robbery gone wrong . JMO

What I'm curious about (today, lol) is the sequence of events that goes:

- Morgan comes home in a cab, probably a bit tired and drinky
- leaves home barefoot, cranky?, goes to the pub for last rounds drinks
- leaves pub at closing, is seen pausing outside pizza place (WHY)
- Morgan at some point strikes up convo with DJK, then is either followed or is accompanied back home

I've read the various hook-up theories, and really those are fair enough in the circumstances. But if not that, then.. what?

I'm wondering if he was actually out there waiting for somebody else to show up, even. And ran into DJK, who was out there.. why? Not drinking. Not at the pizza place that had been closed for an hour and a half.. would a kitchen really still be closing up at 1-1.30 am, on the off chance he was indeed working? Had he been out?

Or was he meeting up with Morgan after all, for whatever reason (and there would have to be phone records, surely?).. OR had he followed Morgan from home, and took his opportunity...?

Sometimes I dislike being as curious as I am. Lucky I'm not a cat. :B

Somewhere in all the MSM it says DJK is seen on cctv a few seconds behind MH.
This is the cctv that wasn't mentioned until after the arrest. Was also shown to the owner of the Cooking School.
It's possible it was a pre arranged thing with a time, DJK late, MH was pacing, waiting, then walked off home. JMO

ETA: Thoughts on how victim was overpowered. DJK looks quite tall to me. Unless arresting (male) police are very short. MH had been drinking all afternoon at party, taken by surprise, first blows enough to put him out of action. Again, JMO.

The way I see it is this. Putting aside any sexual preferences etc for the moment, DK was one of two things:

1) Someone in emotional turmoil from rejection/life circumstance or with an underlying personality disorder who snapped.

2) A person with very strong sociopathic tendencies who gained sexual gratification from killing. Someone not remotely bothered by what he did or feeling isolated by society at all. Someone quite happy with himself in life.

These are very different animals though.
