Mr Deverall said Mr Kelsall suffered from Asperger's syndrome and was a contractor who came into his business to clean after hours.

''We were made fully aware at the time that Jack suffered from Asperger's,'' Mr Deverall said. ''But we found that, as he had no customer interaction, just after-hours cleaning, that it didn't make any difference.''

''He was obsessed with being a chef's apprentice and always turned up wearing chef's pants,'' Mr Deverall said. ''He didn't need to. He could have done it in his trackies. We found him very docile and slow. And quiet. Could hardly get a word out of him.''

I remember Asperger's syndrome being mentioned SA.
I wonder if that has proved to be the correct diagnosis?
It has not been reported during the court case has it?

I have an adult son with schizophrenia and I was just reflecting on his adolescence, not diagnosing just thinking out loud.

I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, soso. The reporting is a bit strange in this trial. We seem to be hearing more about what the defence is alleging on cross examination, than we are hearing about what the prosecution is putting forward.

I looked up the prosecutor, Peter McGrath. He seems to have prosecuted less high-profile cases. A king hit. A murder where the jury came back with manslaughter. A murder where the decision came back as not guilty. Then he defended an immigrant who was being taken advantage of by their employer.

I have to say I am really surprised that DK is giving evidence. I did not expect that.

People diagnosed with ASD often have a second diagnosis (or even more) ... it is not unusual for someone to have ASD and OCD but I don't know the prevalence of ASD and bipolar. People with ASD usually have anxiety disorders and/or depression so it is very possible that symptoms related to anxiety and/or depression could have led to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder for DJK.

I think (?) I remember reading that he was adopted. It could certainly explain why his parents seem protective. Can you imagine going through the heartache of the adoption journey, finally getting your baby, raising him, then having this happen? Actually, I wonder if RAD has been investigated (if he was adopted as an older child, although it can still happen with infant adoptions).

They must think DK will do well on the stand. DK seemed almost arrogant in his police interview. Robert Durst managed to convince a jury that he was innocent of the murder of a man he admitted to chopping up and disposing of (he said he killed him in self defence) when he gave evidence at his trial.

I am surprised too all we're hearing about is the defence. I'd been waiting for it all to be revealed in the trial.

Oh I agree fruity - this would be heartbreaking for DK's parents and I certainly appreciate why they would be protective.
It is very disturbing that DK was having and verbalising these intrusive thoughts that seem so close to what has occurred, I wonder if his parent were aware of this before he was charged?

By the beginning of 2012 Mr kelsall said his son had become progressively worse.

Due to ongoing problems. Mr Kelsall said his son went to a new doctor and psychiatrist who believed he had been misdiagnosed with bi - polar and was on the wrong medication.

I wonder if it was the new or old doctor he disclosed his thoughts of stabbing a random too?

I am curious;

* If there were a new/suspected diagnosis?
* If new medication was prescribed?
* If DK was compliant with his medication?

His parents seem to be very protective of DK. imo

Hard to know which one Kelsall had been seeing first as he'd told both, a doctor as well as a psychiatrist about wanting to kill someone.

About 16 months before he allegedly stabbed Morgan Huxley to death, Daniel Jack Kelsall had thoughts about killing someone with a knife "for the thrill of it", a court has been told.

At the first day of Mr Kelsall's NSW Supreme Court murder trial on Wednesday, Crown prosecutor Peter McGrath, SC, told the jury the accused had told a doctor and psychiatrist about the thoughts in early 2012.

"[The doctor's evidence] will be the accused told her in confidence that he was having intrusive thoughts about killing people with a knife on the way home at night," Mr McGrath said.

"He told her he took a knife home late one night but he didn't meet anyone."

He later told a psychiatrist he had thoughts about killing someone "for the thrill of it", Mr McGrath said.

BBM - I wonder from where he took this particular knife that he took home late one night?. He told police that he hadn't taken any knives home from work in the below video.

Detective: "Have you taken any knives from work?"

Kelsall: "No"

I don't think there is any way they can tell when a person looked at a text message, is there? They are saying that Bec Prins looked at her message from Morgan at 4am. I'm guessing that the girl that Kelsall says he saw entering Morgan's place is going to be said to be the one who does not have blond hair.

Oh boy, I hope this doesn't turn into a case of he-said-she-said.

Surely Kelsall would have had some fairly new knife wounds/scars on him when they interviewed him? 28 stab wounds, at least one with enough force to break off the knife tip in Morgan's skull. There had to be some slippage there, I would think.

I wonder how long Kelsall had worked at the cooking school. Do you think that he worked there when he told them that he had those fantasies? I guess he probably did if he was having knife fantasies. I am only wondering as the owner said that he knew Kelsall had Aspergers ... but I guess if they had diagnosed him otherwise (bipolar), he may not have revealed that anyway.

"The jury has heard there is “no dispute” Kelsall’s DNA was located in Mr Huxley’s bedroom and that the murdered man’s blood is on the shoulder bag the kitchen hand was wearing on the night."

Where is this photo taken, I wonder. It doesn't look familiar from our Google walks.

(Sorry enzeder. These questions are not all directed at you. I just want to know everything. :tantrum: )

No, it doesn't look familiar to me either SouthAussie. Looks like we might have to take another Google walk. :)

I don't know how long Kelsall had worked at the cooking school or if he'd done similar work elsewhere prior to that job SouthAussie?. Someone else may remember?. I'll have a look later at older articles. When I read that "he took a knife home late one night" I was thinking that he'd taken it from somewhere that night prior to going home but maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks Marly

The doctors evidence will be he told her in confidence.
I do wonder if his parents were even aware their son was having these intrusive thoughts.

Mr Kelsall said His son was exited about getting a job as a jnr chef after coming to Australia from NZ in 2010.

But he had to leave that job after increasing problems with his medication for bi-polar disorder - so he started work at the Sydney Cooking School.

Sound like his Chef job was else where.

"Rebecca Prins, Kathryn Leis and Jessica Hall all agreed Huxley had discussed a threatening work dispute with a man named John in the days before the murder.

That man, John Giddens, yesterday denied he had warned he would “square that little c … (Huxley) up if it’s the last thing I do.”

Mr Giddens also denied he told an employee who attended Huxley’s funeral that “the detectives are hassling me” and that “I’ve got an alibi, I hope you do too”.

The jury heard the pair had argued over the ownership of a barge and the return of a generator to the wharf where they worked near the Sydney Fish Markets. Of that dispute, Ms Hall said: “I don’t believe (Morgan) was worried about his safety”. While Ms Leis said: “I didn’t get the impression he feared for his life”."
