Wow - haven't been following the case or news much lately - what a pleasant surprise the media (and we) are now allowed to discuss it!
I'm convinced this is just the beginning - MUCH more to come on this case - and we haven't even heard the details on the firearm charges yet.

The sex charges are all for the same one victim who isn't one of JC's own daughters - could very well be a step-daugther as one mentioned. The crimes all took place in Nerang where I believe JC was living at the time. The victim has a very Australian name so it seems they aren't related to his asian trips - more likely some of the in-between marriages (thanks for that info MM!).

When JC was in court back in December his representative said "my client doesn't wish to enter a plea" (I'm not surprised!). The case materials included 24 witness statements of recent date - many apparently from family members of the victim, statements from the Gold Coast Hospital, a Birth Certificate and a recorded interview with JC.

Interesting how the wives who bore him children are both deceased. He has never had to pay child support or share custody. It is very probable IMO that he has never had to divide assets either.

And I'm feeling a bit unnerved that his wives took care of the children when the children were very small .. but suddenly weren't around to protect and care for the children once the children were a bit older.

QPS probably know/suspect an awful lot about this creep. He makes my skin crawl.

Yup, and look at the -way- they are deceased. Not like either died of illness, or accidental causes. He makes my skin crawl, too.

There is one more ex-wife with children - his first wife. There were children of that marriage. I don't know their current circumstances.

Are you saying that there was another wife before Maureen (who apparently 'overdosed' and is the mother of his two elder girls)?

Ok cutting any discussion about ex wives right here.

Sleuthing of family members past or present is not allowed.

Please discuss only what has been reported in media or via police reports.

Trial date to be set on 31st January.

"The case will return to court on January 31 when a trial date is expected to be set for later this year."

I called Southport Magistrates Court this morning but they couldn't confirm a John William Chardon scheduled for court on Friday 31st January.
They could, however, confirm he's scheduled to appear before the court on Monday the 24th February at 9am in court 9.

Hoping that it will show up here Thursday evening or early Friday morning: http://www.courts.qld.gov.au/__external/CourtsLawList/SouthportCourt.pdf?nocache=1

Anyone else who can confirm the 31st January? Could it be that this is just where they officially announce the trial date and no further processing of the case will take place Friday?

The husband of missing Gold Coast woman Novy Chardon will face a trial in July on child sex charges.

John Chardon, 66, has been committed to stand trial in the week commencing July 14 after a brief mention of his case at the Southport District Court on Friday.

Chardon is facing eight charges of sexual crimes against children, which are alleged to have occurred between 1998 and 1999.

The charges include three counts of rape, four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 in care.

Prosecutors told the court they anticipate the trial lasting five days.

I saw a report on 9 News tonight - they are close to an arrest. They said more than 1 person involved. They have CCTV of the car been moved and also consulted with the car's overseas manufacturers regarding use of the key. They still have no idea where her body is.

They did put up a timeline, but can't recall the exact details, other than the fact that her husband was told of Novy's divorce intentions that afternoon.

Hopefully it will be on the 9 website tonight.

Fingers crossed they make some arrests soon (I have my hunches but guess we'll see who is ultimately charged).

Missing woman Novy Chardon made divorce plans before she vanished

(paywall but hopefully the article will appear on news.com.au later tonight)

MISSING Gold Coast woman Novy Chardon visited her lawyer to discuss a divorce settlement on the day she vanished, police have revealed as the first anniversary of her disappearance looms.

They also say there is "no doubt" she was murdered and that "more than one person was involved in causing her death and disposing of the body".

About lunchtime on the day she disappeared, she met with her lawyer regarding "a marriage separation".

Police say Mrs Chardon picked up her children Alex, 7, and Channelle, 9, from school.

That night, she and her daughter went to a female friend's house to work on an affidavit related to the proposed divorce settlement.

She dropped her daughter home about 8.50pm before leaving to meet friends at a Runaway Bay restaurant.

Mrs Chardon returned home between 10.30pm and 11pm. She was reported missing on February 7.

Just remembered they also said in the Ch9 report that there would have been significant discussions between the people involved. Certainly sounding more and more like the people who would benefit most from her 'disappearance' are potentially involved. IMO IMO IMO!!!

Thanks for the Courier Mail article. Doesn't appear to be a paywall though as I clicked through fine :)

There is a paywall but you get a few free articles with the Courier Mail before you have to upgrade. So we always try and provide one from another site that has unlimited access to articles :)

Normally, when you reach your limit if you clear your temp internet files, cookies etc - it resets and you can start the freebies again. Not all but mostly works.

Why doesn't that surprise me?

So glad to hear that they are close to an arrest!! .. or maybe two?

I hope eventually Novy can be found and laid to rest. I think it would be helpful for her children to give her that dignity.
