I thought I read Foster could only convince police to wire him for one occasion. Was that the occasion of the 'meltdown' and alleged confession? Probably not. We keep hearing about the evidence of Foster's 'notes'. Nothing about the evidence of a recording, so far.

I'm as keen as anyone to get Chardon convicted. But Foster has zero credibility as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, and that is a worry. Even if he is being factual, his history will allow defence lawyers to tear his credibility to shreds.

I would think that the only passable credible info from him will be what was secretly recorded. I haven't heard how it was recorded, just that the prison authorities wanted the recording method suppressed ... for obvious reasons.

Although, if the police have bits of evidence that back up any of his claims, that may help.

Can't remember if he did or not, in this news report Foster says Chardon wanted to buy a boat.

Ahhh .... I just went back and searched the first thread. We thought that he did have access to a boat ... an Inox Lubricants boat, the Little Miss INOX.

"Little Miss INOX - Quintrex 650 Offshore - !50 HP Mercury Fuel Injected Outboard and GPS sounder. This boat goes like a dream and we catch plenty of big fish with it on the local reefs off the East Coast of Australia.".

There are a few posts here about it. But the links showing the boat are no longer showing the boat, and one link wasn't showing the boat even at the time we posted about it. Was he trying to get rid of thoughts in that direction?

I wouldn't put it past him to have a deal on with Chardon to sabotage the trial. Say he isn't sure about something crucial under cross-examination. Take a pay-off from all sides.

A MAN accused of murdering his wife had a male Filipino lover who says he was asked if he could kill after the pair had sex for the first time, a court has heard.
Marshall Bari Aguilor appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court where he gave evidence in the committal hearing for John Chardon, who is accused of the murder his wife Novy Chardon in 2013.
Aguilor claimed he met the Gold Coast businessman through an Asian online dating website when he was trying to help his female friend meet men.

I was pretty disgusted, too, when I read this alleged comment from him. Just thankful that Novy's children are away from him for a while. Just hoping and hoping that they are in a safe place, because I am not sure of the credentials of the last carer that we heard they were with.

A man accused of the murder of his missing wife allegedly told his cellmate he wanted to “jump on a little girl somewhere”.

I worked in Bangkok for five years and you would not believe the depravity that I witnessed in broad daylight. Dirty, old western men harassing young women walking to work with the only Thai language they are bothered with is 'how much?' Many of my female work collegues endured this.

Well, he has been committed to stand trial. One step closer to justice for Novy.

JOHN Chardon has been committed to stand trial for the alleged murder of his wife Novy five years ago.

Brisbane magistrate Penelope Hay on Tuesday afternoon ruled there was enough evidence for the Gold Coast businessman to go before a Supreme Court jury.

Chardon entered a formal plea of not guilty on Tuesday afternoon. He will go on trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court at a later date.

Chardon seeking judge-alone Qld trial
Accused wife murderer John Chardon will seek a judge-only trial when his case is heard by the Supreme Court in Brisbane later this year.

Chardon is due to go to trial after Magistrate Penelope Hay ruled in May there was enough evidence, including explosive claims from convicted con man Peter Foster and a Filipino man claiming to be Chardon's lover.

Marshall Bari Aguilor said the alleged murderer asked him if he could kill his wife Novy and also paid him to hire three hit men

"On Wednesday, Mr Kimmins told the court the application for the judge-only trial would take about a day and a hearing was set down for October 2."

Let's hope that works for him as well as Simon Gittany's judge only trial worked for him. If he is awarded it, of course.

I guess he thinks any potential jury may be tainted. But an awfully long time has passed now. Maybe a judge will feel that they can find an untainted jury.

Some of the benefits of a judge only trial are:
  • There is less of a chance that a judge will be swayed by the emotional evidence of a witness;
  • You only need to convince one person that you are not guilty in order to be acquitted;
  • There is less chance that a judge would be influenced by the media, family or friends; and
  • The judge will have a good understanding of the law and will attribute weight to evidence correctly.
Some disadvantages of a judge only trial are:
  • That the prosecution only needs to convince one person that you are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; and
  • You may be open to the prejudices of that single judge (for example if they have a “tough on drugs” mentality).
Although judge alone trials are rare, under certain circumstances they will be granted. In general, it is likely that your matter will be heard in front of a jury if it is an indictable offence.

Judge or jury trial?

I've received a Google Alert about a story on Novy. Thing is when I click the link it's not there, I get a 404.

Headline was:

Glitter Strip Bare: Novy Chardon involved in property deals from beyond grave

Courier Mail

Did anyone else catch it?

Sort of looks like they ran a story, then pulled it. Perhaps this will be part of the case, or part of a different case. Forgery happening after Novy went missing.

When I tried the link on a different browser, the 404 message says "Content is deleted, expired or legal killed"
