It will be the first time that police allegations against Mr Lynn will be publicly aired.

Today will be the first time that police allegations against GL will be aired publicly. Until now, detectives have kept their case under wraps. We're yet to hear exactly what police allege happened and what evidence they will rely on to try to prove their case. At the completion of the committal hearing, the magistrate will decide if there's enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Court hearing to reveal what police allege happened to missing Victorian campers

Melbourne time is the same as my state, New South Wales, so it's 10.48 am here.
I couldn't get in to see the court listing, behind paywall for me and have looked at all the news reports and haven't seen a start time for the case.

46 minutes ago — Here is a list of matters listed at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday. ... Today's court listings are published as part of News ...

Gunshots were heard near the remote alpine camp ground where a Melbourne couple was allegedly murdered, a court has heard.

Hunters Damir Jovar and Goran Miljkovic believe they saw the couple in the Wonnangatta area when they camped there in March 2020.

Through a Serbian translator, Mr Miljkovic told the court he heard gunshots early one morning of their trip, just before dawn. He then corrected himself.

"Just one gunshot," he said.

In his statement to police, Mr Miljkovic had described hearing gunshots regularly in the area over many years of camping. He believed them to be coming from poachers trying to kill stags.

A licensed gun owner, he said they were camping in the area themselves to hunt deer.

He and Mr Jovar also described following an older couple in a white Landcruiser ute when they were returning to camp on a day trip.

The vehicle was driving slowly and they had to wait to pass it on a narrow path.

They noticed the vehicle drive off the path and into a campground area with some toilets and two cars parked nearby.

One was a white ute, both men said.
Mr Jovar described the second as a blue Nissan Patrol, while Mr Miljkovic said it was a blue station wagon.

Mr Miljkovic described the ute he had followed as parking strangely - instead of stopping near the toilets they pulled close and parked parallel to the two other vehicles.

He believed he saw the same couple the following day while they stopped to fix a tyre.

Lower than their position, and closer to the river, he saw what he thought was the same single cab white ute they had followed the previous day and an older couple walking toward it.

"They were coming on foot from the graveyard toward the river," he said.

The hearing is continuing.

Ballistics expert will testify on January 23

GL appeared to show little emotion as the proceedings progressed, but was keenly observing the hearing.

Prosecutor John Dickie told the court the bulk of witnesses were expected to give evidence on Monday and Tuesday, however the court would have to return on January 23, as ballistics expert Paul Griffiths was unavailable this week.

That can't be right, can it? Didn't we hear that Carol and Russell had disappeared by the next day? Or is that now open to question?

Contract weed sprayer Robert Williams was working in the area the week the campers were reported missing.

He said a "grumpy" man sped past him near the Bucks Camp before lunch on March 20. Others driving past had stopped to chat, but this man "put his foot down, zoomed past me", he said.

Hours later, as he phoned his boss about 5pm, Mr Williams said he saw a drone flying overhead.

He waved as it flew over him, filming, and it circled several times before flying over nearby campsites, describing it as rude.

"You're going there to have a peaceful camp and somebody's flying a drone over top of you," he said.

He watched it for 35 or 40 minutes before it continued on out of sight.

The following morning he smelled burning plastic, but didn't think much of it at the time because he said campers often burnt rubbish in their campfires. He had only taken note to check that it was none of his fellow workers.

Later, when news reports revealed two campers were missing in the area, Mr Williams recognised the image of Mr Hill as the "grumpy" man.

"I could tell straight away by looking at him - mid-70s, had that grumpy look about him," he said.
"I remember the vehicle very well. A V8 Landcruiser, decked out."

Lynn's flight attendant wife and the families of both Mr Hill and Ms Clay watched the hearing via videolink.

The court heard prosecutors were keen to have the contents of Lynn's initial record of interview and his original statement to police suppressed over fears they may be inadmissible when the matter goes to trial.

In a late development, Lynn had been presented with a bundle of folders containing transcripts of conversations he had on prison phones while awaiting trial.

The Age reported

RH and CC embarked on their camping trip to Wonnangatta Valley, on March 19, 2020. RH was last heard from via HF radio on March 20 when he told a friend in the amateur radio community he was at Wonnangatta Station and was setting up camp before dark.

A day later, campers found his Landcruiser with signs of minor fire damage, and the pair's tent and some belongings torched near the Dry River Creek Track.
