But we can talk about the suspect's known drug issues, right?

Until charged and then no more talk of suspects past and charges I believe.

Yes this is correct. Once he's charged there'll be no further discussions about his criminal history.

And this abduction follows two attempted abductions of similar aged children (also boys) from Wollongong Botanical Gardens........I think just a month or two ago, where one boy gave good description. Maybe it's linked. I remember the incidents because we take our (smaller) boy there all the time and it's scary when it's close to home. Appalling for it to happen to anyone, but really awful when you think of psychological impact on kids.

Sorry - off topic.

Im interested to see how Melbourne public will respond to this crime following JM's death.
Certainly some unsavoury characters in the world......nature vs nurture etc.

I feel this discussion is on topic. Nature vs nurture. I understand why cats eat their runt kittens. Well maybe we should go back to nature and put these 'things' away so we can nurture our young! We've got a lot of land out west and my taxpayers dollars would be happy for them to build their gaol and feed themselves because this is becoming epic proportions. IT'S HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK NOW

GET THEM OFF OUR STREETS-NOW:please: Why is this happening, doh maybe they won't offend again, ooops I was wrong mentality?

I wonder when LE knew Sarah had been seen with SH having a drink? That might explain why originally they didn't believe there was any foul play. There was a neighbour, SM, quoted in articles a few days ago (and now they seem to have been pulled) as saying "She was just like everybody else. You meet the wrong people, they drag you into things."

So they may have had concerns about her health but when she was seen with someone who, from that brief interaction I saw on FB, appeared friendly to her, it was only when the car was found alarm bells went off?

I'm no bleeding heart but I'm glad he was taken alive. Ideally he will confess so Sarah's family have some answers, go to prison, try another jailbreak and have an accident during it. It's my personal feeling that certain types of offenders can never be rehabilitated, and that includes sex offenders, and they should be treated accordingly.

IMO we need more of this here in Australia. I would love to shake this guy's hand.

Subject: Fw: Sheriff Joe - Re-elected

Sheriff Joe - Re-elected

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO - HE IS THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and *advertiser censored* magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 ½ years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you agree, pass this on. If not, delete it.

So glad he was apprehended so quickly. When watching Channel 10 news at 5pm they mentioned her body was mutilated. :(

Even though there hasn't been any news about charges being laid, police are acting preemptively.

The arrest prompted police to warn the public about posting prejudicial material online, which has been a concern in other high-profile cases.

''The community is reminded that comments on social media sites may potentially affect the outcome of court matters relating to this investigation,'' a police statement said.

''We request people refrain from posting hateful or inciteful comments on these sites.''

That's a lot of lurkers :)

Hey fruity and bruni. Not all lurkers perhaps - I don't bother signing on unless I want to comment and on the iPad I get logged out EVERY SINGLE TIME I close the websleuths page. Very frustrating.

This case is sickening and for once I am only checking here - not checking FB stuff because I know I will feel even sadder that this society we live in has such a dark side and seemingly to be increasingly prevalent.

Go Vic Police! They are a hard working lot, most of them.

Now, if we could only find a way to get our courts on keel with that kind of ethic..

Sarah would be alive today.. and Jill would be alive today... along with hundreds of other victims, if we just put violent offenders away for life the FIRST time they rape or murder somebody.

I'm not opposed to the death penalty for repeat offenders like this guy, either. Cost effective closure... Safer streets...

:seeya:

I'm only checking here too (plus I check the top MSM articles as well). I'm often logged in, but away from the computer, so it looks like I'm here more often than I am!

At the moment I'm wasting time on the internet while my 15 year old son cooks dinner. What a sweetie. He got home from school before I got home from work and when I came in he had everything prepared.
