I hate waking up at this time of night and thinking 'no, no, no ....'

I haven't followed this case, just read a brief synopsis on the news. My thoughts: She was a psycho. Babbling nonsense, hitting him and laughing about it? Women hitting men is just as bad as men hitting women, what was her problem? There was no excuse for her behavior. And why was he recording them? Did he notice some red flags and feel that he needed protection and proof in case something bad happened?

ETA: I will try to listen to the recording today and see if it changes my mind. Thanks all! ;)

Oh jesus. I would urge you to read the case thoroughly. She was not a psycho. They were play fighting, she picked up some decorative rocks and was throwing around. She did not injure him.

The press portrayed her as a psycho because they were using is quotes removed from context.

You know, this is one of the few cases where there is hours of recording and you can hear what transpires yourself. It's fascinating in that sense. So there's no excuse not to know almost as much as the jury does if not more.

Yep. Many women have given men the benefit of the doubt and their lives have ended because of it.
But in my personal experience it's a lot harder to identify a "bad apple" if you haven't already encountered one before. Sadly.

Exactly. A good man would of taken care of her, and it's IMO a parental job for mother's to teach their son's respect for women from a young age. I have raised three boys to adulthood and they know about that, and have had females tell me what lovely young men i have raised. I am very proud of that too. And drinking alcohol when the young people socialise together doesn't change that either because that is when a young man should have a girl's back even more because she is more vulnerable after drinking alcohol. All IMO anyway.

I agree I'd have kicked her long ago. He was far to patient and understanding and look where that got him

Good job you're female and wouldn't be in the same situation then.

Unless you'd be WW. But presumably, given the victim bashing you've been doing, you wouldn't be so stupid.

I'm finding it curious that you're interested enough to have been present in court and yet so factually inconsistent and unaware. Time and again you've claimed facts and been proven wrong and yet you stand firm in your opinion based on......?

Ah sorry someone above posted at 15 that he had been into some kind of trouble so I thought they had the age right atleast but seems not. He was cleared of the charge of the obstruction of a police officer yes. Not drink driving.

"Unrelated charges of public nuisance and obstruct police were dismissed."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...t-guilty-drunken-high-speed-police-chase.html

Again, I find myself ata disadvantage because of my complete unfamiliarity with Australian law. Does dismissal of charges mean the same thing as being cleared of charges? In the US someone could be charged at a later date when charges are dropped, while being cleared/acquitted of a charge means you can't be charged again for the same crime because double jeopardy attaches.

See, the thing that keeps poking me is the fact that if he was so worried about his property and his body being harmed, he could have wrung up the police at ANY TIME, especially once he had her "neutralized" outside. Most other non sociopaths would have booted her out the front door good riddance, not locked her still within his property. There were items on balcony she could have destroyed including a tanning bed, they are quite expensive. So I say BS. He is so full self serving ca-ca that it's hard to listen to.

It's hard to call the police mid assault especially when the law fully entitles you to use self defence. I don't own a table nor chairs on my patio. I didn't know this was a forced requirement. Please provide an invoice of his tanning bed.

Agree so much with this. I've been in situations where i've been massively drunk and a male friend or acquaintance has offered me or called me a taxi to get home. I've also done it myself where i've thought someone had had too much to drink and sent them on home. It's about respect and care. GT, unfortunately, had ulterior motives that night.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

She was obviously drunk. He could of walked out of there and left her in the apartment to sleep it off. Or do something other than what he did. No excuses IMO.

I do have some time today, I think I'll take a listen to the recording on you tube...obviously many people think he was premeditating something nefarious. I just read the overall synopsis of the recording, it definitely painted her in a bad light.

Except he wasn't being assaulted.

And the law only entitles you to self defence to a point. It has to be on par with the force of the other person. So if someone breaks into your house and starts punching you, you can't shoot them with a gun and claim self defence. You can only hit them back and claim self defence.

"I've not followed this case and don't know the facts at all, but here's my theory based on the facts I haven't read on the story I haven't followed...."

I have no words.

It's even more fascinating listening to the audio then reading up about him and his shenanigans prior to that night. He is not a good person. Almost all of it has been posted by him in forums so it's straight from the horses mouth.

Which doesn't make sense as isn't it Wright that did Mai Thai? (Tostee mentioned it), though the transcript has had other errors it may have the names assigned the wrong way- I haven't heard the audio for this myself.
There is a Muay Thai cinch choke hold...

My heart really breaks for this young woman and her family, and the whole thing is just so senseless and didn't have to happen at all. I really hope the jury makes the right decision.

They were playfighting and their use of words like ninja, muay thai etc were said as sarcasm. Things didn't escalate to serious violence until GT retaliated for her throwing around decorative rocks and he began restricting her and choking her.

Cryptic Crossword -

It'd be great to get your perspective on what's gone down in the court room.

How do you think the case will swing, has the prosecutor done a good job do you think? What is your feel for the outcome?

Same. I hope there is justice. It's so terrible that her name instantly conjures up the word "psycho" now. :(

We know why he was recording -- it was a matter of habit with him. He used a drone, a telescope, a body camera, a dash cam, and CCTV at various times to spy on people. This is IMO one of many facts that may chance your perception if you dig just beyond the surface of this case (I saw your edit while I was typing this -- good on you!)

Poor Rrie. My heart breaks for her over and over again. I can't imagine having so little empathy for her that I would write off her death as some sort of trivial game piece in a man-hating conspiracy.

Cheeky! Are you disputing the tanning bed's existence or costliness? I can provide photographic proof of its presence if you like, but I'm afraid that common sense is only available on a BYO basis.
