If the jury is anything like this thread - the problem could be 6 men and 6 women.

[FONT=&quot]Justice John Byrne has urged the jury, which is made up of six men and six women, to continue deliberating.

Curious what happens when a jury comes back saying they are unable to reach a verdict? Well, as Justice John Byrne explained today he does have the power to discharge them. However in Queensland there's an alternative - it comes with a script for the judge to follow: It's called a "black direction," which is the option the judge went for.

And here's the second half of the "black direction" - which is what Justice John Byrne delivered to the Tostee jury today. credit:

And once you've read all that - you're probably wondering what happens if the jury really can't agree. Tostee has been charged with murder, and in Queensland law a majority verdict is not allowed for murder - a majority verdict is where 11 out of 12 jurors agree. Their agreement has to be unanimous.

Hopefully the decision made by our peers will be a reflection of our community values, and we can be proud of them. The Jury might have someone from emergency services on it, someone that is the head of a building body corporate, a lab technician, a bank worker, a sloot, a few uni students, a café owner, some retirees, a pet shop worker and several hospitality workers. There might be a hairdresser in the mix, someone facing bankruptcy, a disability worker and a brah,
We can only wonder what they are thinking.
