I don't know what exactly, makes toddlers feel like running off alone into the woods. But it seems to happen way too much. I cannot remember all of the names right now, but a few cases come to mind. A few of the kids were found wandering, but a couple of them were tragically found deceased. One 2'1/2 yr old was found about 3 miles from home, but sadly drowned in a creek. Most of them just wanted to run around and explore, I think.

Police say they haven't ruled out abduction (TV news).

I know the Kendall area a little and it's not completely unreasonable for him not to have been found if he fell or slipped in thick low scrub. I'm remembering Gary Tweddle. This area is nowhere near as dense but it is still possible.

Personally I suspect foul play, but I don't think the family is involved.

A neighbour on the street told Daily Mail Australia he met William's father who was 'searching through the backyards heartbroken and frantic'.

The neighbour said that while he has lived on the street for seven years he did not know William or the boy's parents. He had however met the woman who lived in the house where William disappeared from.

'The boy came up from Sydney to visit a lady in the house,' he explained.

'Everyone in the street has been interviewed. It's really horrible,' he added.

The man said there hasn't been 'one burglary or incident' on the street the whole time he has lived there.

'It is a quiet peaceful area and it has been turned upside down.'

'When I heard I was on my ride on mower and saw a police car. Someone came running down the street. They said someone had just lost a kid. I took my dog for a walk and had a look for him. I wish he was found on the first day.'

My little man has his diagnosis appointment for high functioning autism this week so it might just be his way of doing it but I'm pretty sure his older sister and brother were the same :) he also likes to go to heir last hiding spot haha. Sorry for Being OT

Sorry for O/T just wanted to add that my little girl has her assessment for ASD this week also! Big hugs!

I think it is possible that it was a grandmother taking care of William and his sister, I see no mention of a grandfather anywhere.

I can only imagine her devastation, with this happening on her watch.

Since the search began the close-knit community has rallied around William's grandmother, Ms Atkins said.
'Everyone's feeling for her,' she said.
'Our community does support each other, we're very rural.'

Commenter BDAAH that comments on all mums photos, made a comment on Saturdays cover photo update telling her again how beautiful she is... Am I the only one who finds this strange!?!? Her child is missing and he is telling her how beautiful she is!! Who is this guy!!??

I thought the EXACT same thing! I can't get my head around that either! What the?!

Folks a reminder sleuthing family members isn't allowed.

And we don't discuss facebook comments. We have no way of verifying who they're from.

I know a few of us have already said this, but again - I hope that there have been detectives or some other police personnel slogging away in the background working on possible abduction theories or leads since day one. I've gulped a couple of times when I have seen reports today saying after 4 days an abduction could be more likely. Four days is a long time to defer considering an abduction - hoping our wonderful police have been onto it all along.

In my experience (5 kids, all runners) it doesn't seem unusual at all for a 3 year old to just wander off, with my kids it's often nothing more than a burst of energy, impulse
My 2.5 yo today chased a pigeon almost on to the road, he might have seen a pretty bird, heard something, he might have wandered out of the yard and THEN ran into someone
I also don't find it unusual that the sister can't tell us anything more
I was upstairs with one child one night, heard a scream downstairs, my daughter was standing in the middle of the room with her cheek sliced open, 12 stitches, and none of her 3 brothers could tell me what happened, kids are so easily distracted, so easily absorbed in other things

Someone posted earlier about Gary Tweddle, I'm hoping this isn't a similar scenario :(

Don't be sorry froggy. If they were regular visitors to the grandparents maybe they did know the property well enough to have their secret hiding places.
brainstorming is not always OT. :)

How high is the river there at the moment?
Are there kayaks searching along the river and embankments?

William, where are you honey?

Hubby said the radio said Bull sharks swim that far up the river.
He would've been thirsty and looked for water.

Also bath tubs in paddocks for livestock. Drowning potential.

Just curious about the headline 'abduction and other scenarios'. What are peoples' thoughts on what some of the 'other scenarios' might be?

I just had a thought ...
What if William ran in a totally different direction? Rather than head into the bush, what if he followed Bendaroon Drive until it met with the next adjoining road and got lost or picked up in that vicinity, rather than in the bush?
I'm kind of hoping people are searching there too, but it keeps being emphasised that they are searching all through bush and neighbouring houses.
