It's not even on NSWPol Facebook page

According to locals in Kendall there is still a big police presence in town. We arent going to hear everything the police find especially if they think William was abducted. They have stated they are working hard to find William and MSM can only report on what info they are given....

Police will be questioning individuals why they were in Kendall and what they were doing

'If you were in the Kendall area, we need to know what you were doing, who you were visiting, what car you were driving, what you were doing there,' he told the Daily Telegraph.

It’s about putting the pieces together.”

We’re comfortable that search has been completed and are pursuing other lines of inquiry.”

Although he said that police no longer believe William is in the area, they are now examining whether he was abducted.

See that seems weird - we are now examining whether he's been abducted. They should have been examining that when he disappeared, not just searching then scratching their heads. They really sound like they've bungled this from the beginning.

What is the trend when little kids go missing? Is it more often than not from someone they know? Do they normally keep them close to home? Is there a general pattern?

I have a feeling that they have been looking at abduction for quite a while. There is the man who was asking for directions to William’s street. And the sex crimes squad who joined the investigation just 4 days in.

I suspect they kept searching in case William was taken to somewhere close by, see if they could find any trail of him anywhere ... in the forest, in people's homes, in waterways.

And now, it is almost 4 weeks later. :(

Sept 17 2104

Supt Fehon would not elaborate on reports of an outsider stopping to ask for directions to the street where William’s grandparents live, shortly before he went missing.

Officers from the Sex Crimes Squad of the NSW Police State Crime Command joined the investigation yesterday.

Only my opinion but having lived in a town of a similar size before if they got a report saying a child was missing and there was bush land right there I think that's what most people would think. He's walked into the bush :/ it would be weird to think abduction somewhere that small. Not saying it doesn't happen because clearly it does but yeah I just think that's what police really thought. He had walked off into the bush :/

Unfortunately, I'm still very alerted by how quickly the sex crimes squad joined the investigation. What were the indicators that caused this to happen? A high incidence of perpetrators in the area? A perpetrator close by in William's life somewhere? Unable to locate a local perpetrator who may have left town around the time of William's disappearance? Concern about the unknown man asking for directions? Some other indicator?

In following cases of missing children here on WS and in the media, this squad is called in very rarely. The circumstances do not usually warrant it. It does not appear to me to be something that is done as a matter of course.

Children

Sex Crimes Squad
Whilst all police have a role in protection of children, clear areas of responsibility have been established for the investigation of child abuse matters. The Sex Crimes Squad and the Joint Investigation Response Squad (JIRS) were established to ensure provision of a specialist adult sexual assault and child protection service to support Local Area Commands across NSW. These services are offered in partnership with Community Services (formerly Department of Community Services), and the Department of Health

The Sex Crimes Squad Commander is the Head of Profession for Sex Crimes. The Commander has a key role in focusing Local Area Commands and Regions response to this crime type through State-wide monitoring.

The aim of the Squad is to:
Investigate sex crimes that are protracted, complex, serial and serious in nature.
Identify crime trends, and develop Operational Strategies, Programs and Policies.
Maintain the Child Protection Register in accordance with Legislative and Policy requirements.
Provide consultancy in local investigations if necessary.

Abduction was being investigated very early on even though the missing in bush scenario seemed like the only focus.

I think they followed the abduction angle from the very start, they just had to go into the bush as well because it would have been completely remiss not to. They started saying they were investigating abduction very early on. I imagine the parents had a suspicion immediately that it is related to the family's "complicated circumstances".

The kidnapping statistics are quite frightening - http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Lookup/4510.0main+features102013

There is a report from a decade ago that has stranger abductions at 62% of the total - http://aic.gov.au/publications/current series/cfi/101-120/cfi103.html which I admit I find quite surprising, I would assume most abductions would be custody related.

Here's another missing child gone missing since last Friday. Praying for baby William's safety. The mother has three names? Hoping not another Kiesha.

THERE are concerns for the welfare of a baby boy in Sydney's west as police appeal for the public's help to find him.
BABY William is aged between eight and 10 months old and police say he was last seen with his mother in the Blacktown area last Friday.
Police would like to speak to the baby's 32-year-old mother, Jennifer Gee, also known as Jennifer Murphy or Jennifer Lyons.
They have concerns for the child's safety and wellbeing.

Just saw that they'll get you. That's pretty close to where I live. Hope he is found safe.

I find that surprising as well. It seems most media reports are of situations where a non-custodial parent or relative takes the child. At least, it has always seemed that way to me and I've heard friends say stats like "oh, 90% of kidnappings are by family, so you don't have to worry about it". Maybe they're conflating the stats of sexual abuse and kidnapping, I'm quite sure most cases of molestation are by family members or friends of the family or other "trusted" people.

though it does say "where relationship to the victim was reported", so who knows exactly how accurate those stats are.

I see they have been searching the river on jet skis . does anyone know how far from grandmothers house river was, and is it deep, fast flowing? had there been much rain recently.
Once you've eliminated the forest, if the river was in close proximity , it is the next logical place
where William could have been.

Kiwi50 a secluded place on the river appears to be only 7 minutes & 2.2 kilometres away unless there is a closer point to the river.
It is a sad realisation to think this could have happened.
