Yep that may be the case and there are two families involved that fit that criteria exactly. William's biological parents on the one hand and his foster parents at the other end of the scale. It has always been in the back of my mind that William's disappearance was a case of snatch and grab to return him to where (someone believes) he rightly belongs.

RSBM
The issue I have always had with this is ... would someone snatch just William? What about his sister? She rightly belongs in the same place as William. Would someone that cares about them both separate them, and in such a manner as to probably permanently scar the sister? I hope not. :(

ETA: Just want to add, the 'hope not' does not apply to the scenario ... as that scenario might mean that William is alive and cared for.
I just mean that I hope a close person would think about the ramifications on the sister before taking just one child.

Almost sounds like they think Spedding took him.

Yes, I think they have been trying to infer that for a long time. Unfortunately, I think the one person that can help them in this regard is standing by her man. So they have to dig up every single little sliver of circumstantial evidence they can find, through every source they can, to try to nail him down.
I hope they hit pay dirt really soon.

Not discounting the possibility that siblings have the same biological mother and different biological father, or vice versa.

I don't believe that is the case with William and the sister that was fostered with him.

I think if is the case the intent was to grab both kids but not for reasons of taking care of them. Especially if a paedo ring is involved. Someone very sick in the head connected to the families somehow.

Agreed. It's pretty sad because she will go right down with him.

That's a very good point!!!! But both being taken away makes me think they have same mom and dad. Could be wrong though.

Excellent, thank you.

Seriously I don't get any of this. After 18 months, another 12 detectives were added to the investigation to work around the clock. That is four detectives per shift in a 24 hour period.

Extra resources where thrown at the case about six month ago! 18 months too late as far as I'm concerned! And what pray tell are these 'extra resources'?

Reading the article about this in the paper this morning, this was my opinion also. One of the most public interest cases in NSW and Australia in recent times (since the Jill Meagher case probably) and the police didn't think to throw more resources at it earlier?

So the fp

Does 'fp' mean family?

Yes perhaps. Though William and his sister were apparently running all around the outside of the house for a while that morning. Maybe the opportunity was missed to grab both. Or maybe a gorgeous little boy who was seen hiding all by himself was the opportunistic grab.

I really feel for anyone who truly loves William - the 'not knowing' must be torture for them. I lived through many years of not knowing whether a close family member was alive or dead and it seemed to me as if he was a soldier who had gone to war and was MIA. I just wanted to know 'for sure' what had happened to him. Thankfully there was a good outcome but a part of me was also missing until he was found.

Coincidental to the post above regarding missing loved ones and the trauma of 'not knowing':

'The Shocking Missing Child Cases of NSW'
Neil Keene
Daily Telegraph
20 February 2016

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/su...f03cc3e3ff6ac221a5344eaaf66&memtype=anonymous

The article mentions the investigation into William's disappearance along with some general comments on the role of the NSWPOL Homicide Squad's involvement in cases of missing children from Detective Superintendent Michael Willing. It also gives examples of NSW unsolved ('cold case') child abductions/kidnappings.

State/National Statistics (quoted in the article):

Every three days a child under 18 is abducted or kidnapped in NSW.

Since 1995, the average rate of child abductions/kidnappings in NSW is 134 per annum.

Most child kidnappings in Australia result from domestic disputes.

The rate of child abduction in NSW is the lowest in 20 years.

Stranger abduction is relatively rare nationally and only accounts for a small percentage of incidents.

I have taken notes as the story is behind a paywall *sigh* and will paraphrase further if necessary.

Note: If you have access to the Google Play Newsstand app, you can use it to read the article for free (as long as you haven't already used up your weekly limit) or you can purchase it.

Wonder if the recent article from NC has sparked this.

However, adding more manpower makes me think they are working on a pretty big operation. A break in case?

I haven't read this thread for a while (will go back and do so now). What is the NC article you mention?

Thanks - I had actually seen that in the media :blushing:. For some reason with the talk of America I thought someone was talking about an article from North Carolina!

The pawn shop and his (Spedding's) Bonny Hills home were searched by forensic teams - septic tanks pumped, computer equipment seized and excavators brought in to dig up nearby yards.

What happened to the pawn shop, did it close?

What many didn't realise about the peaceful little village, with less than 850 residents, was that 20 registered sex offenders were living in the surrounding area.

That is 2.5% of the town. That seems higher than lots of other place would have? Or am I underestimating the number of registered sex offenders in Australia?

I just don't understand why they haven't offered a reward for information. Maybe they think it's counterproductive
but why? A $1 mil reward (plus immunity I think) is offered to help solve the abduction of Bung Siriboon, $250 000 for Tialeigh Palmer and
$1 mil was offered to help solve Daniel Morcombe's case .

I would love a more in depth discussion about this because I think that there must be a very important reason for this.

20 registered sex offenders in the surrounding area is a huge amount. I mean "eye popping" huge compared with other areas including high density city areas. It seems these birds of a feather do flock together.

All I can think of is that the NSW Government doesn't offer a reward for information unless the case has gone before the Coroner and/or has been transferred to the Unsolved Homicide Squad.

In the article I linked to in the post below, where a reward was offered, this was always the case:
