Points in article
* Prosecutor withdrew Victorian charges.
* BS did not have to attend court.
* 20 Sept - court application for costs.

William Tyrrell ‘person of interest’ has historic child sex charges dismissed
so my take on this is that the charges were not actually 'dismissed' by the Judge or whoever, but that it didn't proceed because Prosecutor decided not to proceed, so withdrew the charges - in fact IMO those poor ladies possibly decided after the NSW event they couldn't go through it again ??

Personally, I think that the 'evidence' is rumours and postings on social media ... which are not allowed here because we all know they can be very incorrect. Otherwise, why would links not be provided?

And like you, I think the media would be reporting on any acquittal. There would be no reason to suppress an acquittal, once the Victorian charges were dismissed.
There is more to this story.
being that these Vic charges were dismissed before the Trial starting, can they be reinstated ?

There was a little article in today's hard-copy Sunday Mail (QLD) on this. Yes, I wonder why this was released. What is the purpose of reporting on an argument that most police would generally have about a case (or many people in the workforce)? What was the point about the boxing, too? To up the word count, perhaps?

Why was it leaked to the media or better still who leaked it to the media??? You'd think with a case that hasn't been solved all info, incidents etc etc would stay within the Police department, what other info has been shared surrounding WT'S case that we the public shouldn't have known about

Was just looking at this 'obsessive, compulsive' commentary by a judge again.

Wonder who the woman is, who was also accused of sexually abusing children? The case evidently went to trial, or a committal hearing, if a judge made the on-record obsessive, compulsive comments.

Does this mean that Spedding has faced other child sex abuse charges, prior to the recent historical charges trial? I think it does.

The witness, who cannot be named, claimed Mr Spedding and another woman sexually abused children. These allegations, which were unrelated to the charges he now faces, were rejected by a judge, who said he was “reasonably satisfied” the abuse did not occur.

The judge found the witness may also have sought to influence the evidence of the children allegedly involved, the court documents show.
The witness, who has separately alleged Mr Spedding committed the offences for which he currently faces charges, was “obsessive, compulsive and bizarre”, the judge said.

possibly the mother of the children living with BS & MS ?

TRADESMAN Bill Spedding was interviewed by Family and Community Services about his treatment of children just days before detectives began investigating him over the disappearance of little William Tyrell.

The mother of one of the children who had lived with the Speddings said she now wants the child back. “They should be home with me,” the mother, who cannot be identified, said.

Mr Spedding had been initially interviewed by FACS workers on December 9 last year in an inquiry separate to the Tyrell case.

Following a call from CrimeStoppers, the homicide squad turned their attention on Mr Spedding in mid-December without knowing about the December 9 FACS inquiry.

The mother who wants her child back said she was informed by FACs in December it was investigating Mr Spedding but would not tell her why.

The same month Port Macquarie detectives tried to contact her, she said, adding that she was horrified when she saw news reports of police searching the Speddings’ home.

The mother said her child was removed from her home by FACs because of a domestic situation. She has turned her house into a shrine to the lost child.

The child’s room is untouched and she has not taken the Christmas tree down since the child was removed early in 2011.

-.-.-

When I read backwards from new to old posts, I found a question re the mother of a foster child (with the mosaic memory wall) cared for by the Speddings. I think, also asked was for the time/date.
Who posted the question, I've forgotten to note, sorry.
ex-DIL as far as i know

Yes, I think that you likely are right.

The thing is, this woman has probably had a pretty horrendous life herself. Some of us have read Hillsley’s own background, and the woman has grown up in the same environment. There is a good chance that she, herself, has been abused by Hillsley and others, too.

To me, it is probable that Hillsley abused her children. (I wonder who the father is of her other child.)
That Spedding abused her children/their child.
That associated others abused her children.

She may not have been able to help herself, but as a mother she may have tried to help her children. Unfortunately, she had surrounded herself with the familiar … abusers. And she is mentally incapable of getting her plight across to others in a rational way.

Many women marry or associate with the familiar – drunks, gamblers, violent men, strayers. And others step right out of the mold and go for what they believe to be the opposite type of man. There is much research out there about that.

Luckily, many also surround themselves with the kind of good men that they fortunately grew up with.

IMO
most valid comments SA, and very well articulated

Interesting question, Warski.

You’d think so, if the complainant agreed to proceed and/or further compelling evidence which strengthened the prosecution case was discovered (and, of course, the DPP agreed to re-charge the accused and prosecute the case).

I don’t know the legalities but I do know that there was a past NSW murder trial, where the accused was found not guilty, that has been recently been heard in the Supreme Court to decide if the case can be re-tried.

Maybe @SouthAussie might know where to look up that information and can tell us more.

Probably right, SA. Just can't understand all of the indignation that the editor copped if people think he's innocent, 'cause if he is, it's a storm in a teacup.
The indignation is that a man who has been named a POI and had his place searched, has a picture of his van driving past a police search site, put on the front page of the Daily Terror with the headline, CRIME SEEN. Police had stated that he was not a suspect and there were no charges laid, but the paper cast huge suspicion on him by publishing the above, which is defamatory or borderline. More than people on these sites know that criminals often go past or near areas they have committed a crime or check back on a crime scene. It looks bad. It means if they can do that to him, they can do that to anybody. I well believe it was a set up photo opportunity or how lucky for the photographer to get the front page spot. I do not mean that they knew what his movements would be for the day, only that it was a good chance he would use the road that day. IMO

The same-minded people that think that sensitive police investigations should be subject to public scrutiny but persons of interest should have their identities protected? They can’t have it both ways. It’s a matter of weighing up the public good.

ETA: And in this case; William’s interests and those of other vulnerable children. They are my first, and only, priority.

I guess in this police investigation, with some of the media reporting, some court proceedings that have sping boarded off the investigation and knowing certain government departments have a special interest in the victim of this crime, I question the judgement of those weighing up the public good. IMO

I think it was a set-up too, like this: police wanted to talk to MS alone; police got a Spedding connection to alert him to the local search; police told media there'd be a good chance he'd be driving by. Tick, tick, tick: they caught up with MS, they got the minor evidence of Spedding showing a peculiar interest in police doings, and they put pressure on him through the media again (and made the chooks happy, which is always useful).

Chooks, JLZ?

I think by now we know where many rusted on members stand on this case and what is their priority. None of us know what has happened to WT. Some members trust the police investigation implicitly, they can do no wrong and can justify all of their actions. It seems the ends justify the means. I want WT found but along the way I'm going to question methods and point out where I think they are crossing the line. If I can point it out, I'm sure it could be pointed out and argued in a trial. MOO

punters, sheep, dopes, the masses, hm hmm Daily Telegraph audience, what have you.......... IMO

Oh, OK. Thankfully, I’m not one of them. A police officer acquaintance said of the DT once, ‘It’s a comic book.’ I only buy it so OP’s can read paywalled stories. My daily read is the SMH.

I'll have a look at it from time to time so I can see what the actual issues are that are currently going on while I try to look occupied in Maccas. then if something really catches my eye, I 'll look at other more credible news sources to see all the bits they are leaving out. IMO
