There's a map of Pima County here http://www.pima.gov/procure/about/images/pimacountyLG.jpg. The only part that wouldn't be considered "remote" and "rural" is the area right around Tucson. We don't know where she was, but this gives you an idea of how vast the possibilities are. This is why they needed something beyond "happenstance" to find her.

The map is from www.pima.gov. It automatically inserted the image instead of just the link.

It's being speculated (READ-I am not saying this is fact), she was found near Red Rock. Googled RR and found the link below. What interested me was the mention of Marana, IIRC didn't Isabel's Grandparents live there? It's ringing a bell, but I can't remember exactly.

Red Rock is just over the Pima/Pinal county line from Marana, easily a good 20- to 30-minute drive up Interstate 10 from the Arizona Pavilions business district toward the southern end of Marana.

That's not far off I-10 as you head northwest towards Phoenix. Marana would be described as rural, although it's trying not to be, but not remote. Red Rock would probably fit the description of remote.

Its in the wrong county, it seems they found another body there at the beginning of the month. I believe that is where this rumor comes from. But since the police were adamant Isa was located in Pima county she would not have been up in Red Rock. A hiker also discovered that body, which doesn't line up with what the police said about Isa's remains either.

I have a very hard time believing, with the incredible media coverage this case got locally, that any perp would risk keeping her alive. This was no normal amber alert here, everyone was looking for this little girl.
The simplest and most likely explanation is she was deceased well before she was disposed and was not kept alive for some period of time. Occam's Razor.

They weren't patrolling. They had an office overlooking the alley and a motion-activated camera. The video does show a vehicle almost hit a dumpster back there. I believe it only shows the front of the house.

The private security truck or van was patrolling. The Celis' home was very close to the mall and other businesses. The security video shows the back of the Celis' home. The speeding truck almost hit a trash bin, not a dumpster. This was about an hour before the 911 call was made and 4 hours after the surveillance video showed several people "showing interest" in the Celis' trash bin (3:00 am).

Watching Channel 9 (KGUN) in Tucson. The body was not found by a passerby (i.e. hiker), but as a result of "investigation" by TPD.

The Celis's home was put up for sale 37 days ago. I do NOT believe her parents are guilty but interesting timing.
They found the body "earlier this month," according to TPD. Earlier this month is less than 37 days ago. Counting the time to arrange the listing, that means the decision to sell was made at least a couple of weeks before the discovery. They would have to have known that the discovery was imminent for there to be a connection.

I wonder what led police to search this area with picks and shovels. Is this a "remote area"?

Tucson Police searched a wash north of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base for evidence related to the search for a 6-year-old Tucson girl who was reported missing on April 21.
About 30 officers equipped with shovels and picks combed through the area this morning and left at about 1 p.m.
Police said nothing was discovered.
TPD Sgt. Maria Hawke told Tucson News Now that investigators were looking for anything of "evidentiary value" in the case.
Hawke said it is not the first time they've looked in the area near Golf Links and South Swan roads.

No, it's not remote at all. It's about 2-3 miles southwest of the Celis house.

ETA: If you wanted to get to I-10 from their house without going through heavily populated areas, you would probably pass that intersection. It's sparsely populated, but easily accessible.

Wow! Almost 5 years later. I sure hope they know more than they are saying...

Someone had to have told them where to look, based on what they are saying. Since they say it was due to an investigation, rather than someone just stumbling across the remains, that suggests to me someone who knows how she got there finally said something.

Thanks for the link, now I remember.

Anyone want to speculate the distance between the home and where Isabel's body was found?

Quite far. Their home is within the city....rural Pima county in any direction is quite a drive. Easily 25-30 mins before you hit anything rural

The closest area I would call both "remote" and "rural" (rather than, say, remote and desert, or remote and federal park land) is out by Three Points or near one of the villages on the Tohono O'Odham Reservation. (See the map I posted earlier for an idea of distance.) I don't think she could have been closer than that and still fit the description. That's really relying on whether LE's interpretation of those words are the same as mine.

Also, remember that it's not just distance. Unless she was near I-10 or I-19, the route would be on state roads. These are usually 2-lane roads that wind through mountainous areas.
From this map, the closest, uninhabited site from the Celis’ home (where a body could be dumped with less risk) appears to be near Swan and Golf Links Road. That's where the police have dug on several occasions with shovels and picks.

Like I said, Golf Links and Swan is neither remote nor rural. I promise. It's very close to my house. It's in the city. Houses, apartments and a city park to the north and east, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to the south, railroad tracks and industrial buildings to the southwest.

This never made sense to me.

If you thought your 6-yr-old daughter had been very recently abducted from your home, would you send your crying 10-yr-old alone out into your neighborhood to search for her?

I hope you are in a better place now Isabel. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
