I don't find the 14 year old's use of the term "kidnapping" to be unusual at all-- for kids, it's something they've all been warned about. The father, however, did not need to use that term, in fact, probably avoided its use as to not frighten the other children prematurely. As in this example, Father: Go up to the store and see if your sister is up there! Son: Dad, has she been kidnapped? Father: I didn't say that! Just go check to see if she's over there! Son at store: Have you seen Isa this morning? She's not home and we think she might be kidnapped!

wonder if we could narrow down which homes are "75 feet away" from Isabel's house and look right at her house? I am thinking most likely across the street?

You never know. All children are different. My children stick to me like glue and won't even go to the bathroom (ages almost 4 and almost 8) without coming to announce it to me first.

If I went to check on the children and they were gone: kidnapping would be my ONLY reaction. We just need to remind ourselves that each child's behavior can be wildly different. I have a friend whose 4 year old girl just gets up and walks out a door at random. One minute, she is dressing Barbie, and the next she has slipped out the door and is walking around aimlessly.

So now FBI BAU has spoken with (interviewed) the "family". That would include the 14 and 10 year old brothers. If something happened in that house (meaning the parents "did it"), wouldn't the brothers know? If they didn't know about abuse in the home, if there was abuse, they might have suspicions. Also, at 14 and 10, they do not have the ability to lie or mislead the seasoned investigators from the FBI.

I think after interviewing the boys, the FBI would know if this is a stranger abduction.

Forgive my convoluted post. Trying to make my point with a squirmy two year old on my lap. ;)

At the last presser this morning, LE came on later and clarified that the BAU had *not* talked to the family as of yet. I lost sound on the feed when he went on to explain further, so I'm not sure if they planned on doing it sometime today or not.

It is great that the brother was searching for her. My concern occurs with the fact that his statement might be rehearsed (if the article is correct) because he repeated the exact words twice. Also, after only an hour and 10 minutes, he was certain that she was kidnapped instead of thinking that she wandered off to K-mart, took her Big Wheel for a spin around the neighborhood, was enjoying her rollerblades too far from home, had walked to the neighbor's home with the pretty flower/kittens/yard ornaments/whatever, and etc...

Honestly IMO I wouldn't read much into what the brother says, he is young, his sister is missing, I don't find it odd that he repeated himself. I have repeated the exact same sentence more than once in a high stress situation.
Like someone pointed out, the father may have seen something in her room to come to this conclusion. Maybe he checked all locks on doors and knew she couldn't have gotten out on her own? I don't know, maybe the son kept hearing that dad repeat it as he called, 911, the mother, the family to tell them.

I don't believe so. As another local mentioned earlier, due to "low light ordinances" (for star gazing), there are limits on the types of street lights which can be used and they are normally too expensive to put on side streets.

And believe me this is a pain in the butt....i have an incredibly hard time driving at night in all parts of the city because the lights are so dim...pedestrians and many bicyclists wear dark colors. It would be very easy to sneak something through this dimness. Just driving around Isabel's surrounding streets gave me the willies...too much dim lighting and darkness. At the risk of offending astonomers I would gladly love to have clearly lighted streets at night for many reasons!

Based on all of our opinions here (and we're all just forming them from our life experiences and what we know/assume - no right or wrong), these parents are damned if they do or don't with anything they do say:

*How long it took them to call 911
*The fact they haven't talked to the media yet
*The statements released (and what the word NEVER means?)
*The fact they are not staying at their house
*etc etc etc

I pray I am NEVER faced with this horrible situation. I would not be able to think properly, probably wouldn't care what "people" thought of me. I would only have one thing on my mind and I would be in a state of panic and terror hoping my child was not scared and being hurt.

bbm: and then there is nurse-son (who is the epitome of independence and skeers the living carp out of me on a daily basis!)

I agree that are children are different

I was looking at the house's last night on Google Nursie. IIRC correctly, there is only one house that would fit the bill and it is directly across the street from the Celis home.

What about the lighting from the adjacent Office Max? Is their back store and parking area lit at night? Desperately hoping that there is some sort of low light illumination, in case the neighbor's camera's are not capable of recording images at night.

Is my train of thought useless? Meaning, if there were something of value LE would have announced it by now?

The thought just occurred to me that maybe that is why the neighborhood was closed off for so long. It may still be I don't know. I thought when I heard that it was blocked that maybe they had some info about neighbors, etc. Hoping they have good video.

I did see a street light on Isabel's street via google in front of the neighbors house a door or 2 away but none on the side street/alley.

Seems to me that the Celis home might benefit, somewhat, from abutting the rear of all that retail-- certainly the loading areas of those stores are lighted in the night, and probably have security and cameras as well. I have been hopeful some valuable witnesses or footage has come from those businesses.

On the down side, of course, is the amount of strangers loitering about legitimized by working there or shopping.

I'm keeping the faith, Isa! Come home soon!

Hey, Doc!

I am wondering if one of the warrants (early on) at a neighbor's house had to do with the camera?

PattyG has been all over the google earth aspect on this case, if she is around I'll bet she can tell you which house :)

That would be great and an incredible stroke of good luck. That is something to pray for and it is the first time I can recall of LE searching a neighbor's house so early. And to get a search warrant you have to have pretty specific reasons I think. jmo

According to the google images map, there are three streelights on Isa's street. One is at the northeast corner of their property, the side of the yard opposite the driveway.

LE got a SW for the neighbours house?

oh no :gasp: are you going to ask me for a link (lol) I will have to go back thru and find it... I think the exact words were "neighborhood"...

let me go look for it...
