Crystal Wilson was not available for comment this week.

“The most frequent reason for a child’s disappearance, statistically speaking of course, are kids who are alienated and run away from home,” Dr. David Finkelhor, a researcher for NISMART, said in an interview with The Republic.

Finkelhor also serves as the director of Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, which has extensively studied child victimization and missing-children cases.

"It’s very unusual for a child that young to do that,” he said, when told about the known specifics of Jesse's disappearance. "It’s usually a child in their early teens or teens who may really have a serious conflict with their family or serious issues with school, who might have someplace to run away to or go to."

"Kid that age are vulnerable to getting into situations in which they’re in physical dangers in the environment,” Finkelhor said.

Sgt. Jason Weeks, a Buckeye police spokesman, said detectives have searched Buckeye Lake and canals in the area with the use of drones. He credits a local company for donating equipment to use on the weekends, allowing authorities to cover more ground and use less personnel.
...
Finklehor said that the public shouldn’t infer much about how much time has passed since Jesse’s disappearance, or in any missing-children cases, because many different factors are at play.

“You’ll sometimes hear people say something like if they don’t find a kid on the first day, that the odds are bad about what’s happened. I don’t think that’s strictly true,” he said. “It’s true that most missing-children episodes are resolved fairly quickly. It’s rare for them to go longer than a few weeks.

“It really depends what has happened to the child. If the child is in custody of a parent or hiding out somewhere, then the odds of the child being recovered is good. If a child is subject to foul play by parents or abducted by strangers, yes, it doesn’t bode well."

Although African-Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African-Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.

NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African-Americans.

To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile missing persons and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

“We are still out there looking for Jesse and have not stopped,” Sgt. Jason Weeks told NewsOne.

Police are continuing the search over areas of rough terrain via the air and are asking for area residents to be alert to any sightings and to share Jesse’s photo over social media.

The FBI is also involved in the investigation. Weeks said foul play has not been ruled out as of yet.

Where is Jesse?? Why is mom not speaking out?

Foul play has not been ruled out, and the FBI is still in.

I haven't been able to follow Jesse's case since he first went missing but I'm just stunned he hasn't been found yet. Heartbreaking for the bio grandma :(

I can't believe LE hasn't heard an earful already from Jesse's twin sister and older brother, about what was going on in that home. Sadly I don't think this will end well.

Information in this article posted below conflicts with earlier descriptions, sort of. I could swear Jesse was last seen "in his bedroom with his shoes on" in earlier news reports. The below description says he had 'gone to bed'. No one wears shoes to bed. It might just be as simple as the writer omitting or summarizing, but it seems significant nonetheless. I'm telling you, his shoes are some sort of hallmark clue in his disappearance.

It has been more than three weeks since the boy went missing from his home in Buckeye near 239th Avenue and Twilight Trail. His mother, Crystal Wilson, said she awoke about 1:30 a.m. to find him missing from his room after he had gone to bed four hours earlier.

Did she see him in his bed, in his bedroom, or did she just 'send him to bed' but not actually follow up? Or maybe she says she sent him to bed at 9:30 pm because at that point the other kids were finally asleep and something unspeakable happened... Just some thoughts.

Me too. It does not look good. Sadly.

: (. Why can't we honor, cherish, and respect our children like they deserve?!!!

The woman at the police station looks like the reporter who tweeted they were on their way to another search area. I can't find that video tweet now. hmmm

They are using shovels and digging in one area. But they have walked away from one place.
