trying to remember back to the timeline whether it was shortly after the apartment search and subsequent forensic testing that LE came out with the news that they were pretty well convinced that Jhessye was dead and at the hands of her mother.

I know this sounds awful and there is no way to say it without seeming ghoulish but I know ya'll will understand my sentiment.

I pray some of the contents of that closet had irrefutable forensic evidence of HUMAN decomp on them.

I have had to stay away from this case b/c it disturbs me so much. Being reminded of the closet takes me back to the sister saying that Jhessye looked dead and talked about the odor. The tears flow whenever I visit this thread.

Hats off to all of you here on WS who have stuck by this case, and especially to LE who has not given up on Jhessye.

Jerice was arrested, then released. IIRC, it was while she was incarcerated that the call came into the tipline. It was after that call, LE began saying Jhessye was in a landfill? I think the apartment search came after Jhessye's siblings told the truth of what happened in that closet?

10/24/11 "do I look like I..." Jerice loses it to media questions

10/31/11 homicide detectives take over the case after Jerice gives birth to #7 and refuses a polygraph.
Baby was taken from her 10/28/11.

11/21/11 Search of Jerice home

11/21/11 Jerice arrested

11/28/11 Jerice released, Scott Maasen takes her case

Hunter reported Jhessye missing Oct. 11, but the sister told police she hadn't seen her since mid-September.

Police interviews with the other children, ages 6, 9 and 13, were included in the police probable-cause statement, which allowed officers to arrest Hunter.

The oldest said that Jhessye's hair had been pulled out and that she looked like a "zombie." She said "the closet where Jhessye had been looked like a grave and smelled like dead people," the filing said

Maasen was recruited to represent Hunter by her friends and the Christian Fellowship Church in Glendale, which tried to raise money for Hunter's bail last week.

"[The Glendale Police Department] is trying to save face before Thanksgiving," Reverend Jeffrey Metcalff told a local TV station at the time. "She will be exonerated of these charges."

The good Reverend seems to have distanced himself quite a bit from jerice, Shirley, Jesse and the case entirely.

Likely preventable?

How about the deaths of all children caused by abuse, are preventable. The next sentence also bothers me. Is this person implying that one or more of the "likely preventable" deaths was caused by a parent reaching out for help, which was not there, due to budget cuts? The telephone rang and no one was there to answer it?

I'm willing to bet the parents of the dead children discussed above, never asked for help. Just like jerice didn't ask.

I didn't take it that way.

I took it as meaning that most of the deaths were caused by parents who did not have personality disorders (most of which have no known treatment). They were caused by people who could have changed from learning better parenting skills, better anger management skills or getting treatment for substance abuse problems.

Those parents may never have realised that they needed help or the help they needed was so difficult to get that they gave up on trying to get it.

In my area (which is not Arizona), the only place low income people can get counselling has a 6 month waiting list. People who admit to having suicidal thoughts can sometimes get in on an emergency basis in 6-8 weeks.

That doesn't strike me as an adequate response to an emergency but it's the best the county can do right now with the budget they have to work with.

Bishop Jeff Metcaff showed up to court to support Hunter.

Metcaff said he has talked with Hunter on several occasions since Jhessye disappeared and he believes Hunter is innocent.

yep yep yep. I truly thought this [man of the cloth] <self edit> had demonstrated some good sense but apparently he is still very much involved in making sure he gets his face time.

also agree - I too have read some stuff that is out there about this "fine gentleman"

Thank you for the links, tl. I was able to open the link for the story, but cannot open the links for the report. The links for the report in your post don't work, either. A blank page opens every time. Anyone else have that problem? Anyone found a solution? TY

I didn't even click on them. Poor Jhessye is forever in my heart. This is close to my heart. When I heard about it, I texted my own DD who lived nearby, hoping that she would be found soon. This made me realize what parents are capable of.

They can be opened but take a really long time to load. It is actually the police reports, and it gives fascinating insight into how these kinds of investigations unfold. Worth the read if you can stomach it (should note-nothing graphic so far, 100 pages in)

What I've read so far:

• According to a neighbor, Jherice sold food for her kids in exchange for drugs. Jhessye was often at neighbors houses asking for food.
  
• Early on in the investigation, Jherice had a verbal altercation with her cousins that had to be broken up by LE, was uncooperative, didn't want the kids interviewed alone.
  
• Jherice lied about her alibi (said she went to Western Union to cash a check when Jhessye disappeared-no record of her there)

That's all of the relevant info in the first report...the rest of it is minutia and ridiculous tips, that are good for a laugh (and make me appreciate LE even more, reading the crap they have to put up with!)
