"Those" and things like "The person or persons" are to me just generic gibberish that LE and the media use to cover all bases. I take it with a grain of salt. Not saying that there isn't more than one person involved here in this case, but I try to not get to hung up on the wording that comes from press releases (been behind the closed doors too many times while they were drawing them up).

I agree, statements from LE are not much different from any other careful organization and it is a mistake and often a waste of time to try to read between the lines too much.

But I too was hoping they had enough already to make an arrest. I was expecting charges to be filed as soon as he was found.

Search for Sylar Newton and Emmett Trapp

Few things strike fear in the hearts of parents everywhere than hearing that a small child is reported missing. In the space of two weeks in late July and early August 2010, our Verde Search and Rescue Posse (Posse) of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) was called upon to assist in two separate search operations to locate and return to their parents, two 2-year old boys, Sylar Newton and Emmett Trapp. Twenty-two of our Posse’s 27 active members responded to 16 individual YCSO callout assignments over 11 days to search for the missing toddlers.

They did search the same area that he was found in.

I totally empathize with those poor searchers.
They searched the area where he was found, but I don't believe they missed him, he wasn't there to start with.

Sylar Newton update: Authorities say remains found Tuesday are those of 2-year-old Arizona boy

Although a DNA test has not yet confirmed whether the remains of a small child found Tuesday belong to Sylar Newton, authorities in Yavapai County, Arizona say the discovered remains are those of the 2-year-old.

http://www.examiner.com/x-1168-Crim...und-Tuesday-are-those-of-2yearold-Arizona-boy

Thank you for the link Texaslil.

I just wanted to note about the examiner as a MSM source. It's not really IMHO. Those are blog type entries where the author will take the facts from MSM and put it into an article for the examiner. Rewording the phrases as their own.

When I read that I thought---great new news.

But honestly I think it's just a reiteration of what we've heard. Not a confirmation...make sense? KWIM?

I do like the examiner though. jmho.

I don't recall seeing any reporting of dismemberment. I posted a question on the "scattered" remains and questioned whether he was possibly dismembered because I thought that it would take longer for the remains to decomp to the point that they would be scattered and the thought of dismemberment popped into my mind - morbid as it is.

I will be eating crow now. A feathery fat one because I did not find a link I did see one where it said scattered. I dont know why I twisted that.

My Crow has big stiff feathers and tough dry skin.:blushing:

Here is uncut video of Don Newton interview....

http://www.azfamily.com/video/raw/U...TV-about-finding-human-remains-100576119.html

MY COMMENTS ARE GRAPHIC...... SORRY

The smell lead him which means there had to have been tissue remaining for that strong of an odor for him to follow. He could not comment on the "scattered" remains. Okay so we know one thing just putting on our thinking caps.... If his remains were scattered in the area, and found right there in the same spot of the wash, come on, they had to have been contained in something, a bag or something. NO WAY (IMHO) you dump a body three miles up stream/river, a flash flood happens to a body in total decomp from AZ heat , sorry but his skin would have been literally sloughing off by then, the pressure of a flash flood, hitting boulders dragging on river bottom with the force of class VI rapids and his bones would be scattered and all pray-tell end up in the same location. NOT happening. There is much more to this and again LE is keeping it close to the vest. I think tox screens are going to be very very interesting. Also if his hair was still with his skull after going upstream this would be odd, if fully skeletonized, his scalp would slough away and hair may be found with scalp up the wash elsewhere, however intact it could still be.

Also Turkey Buzzards are not drawn heavily to skeletal remains.... they are drawn to the smell of rotting flesh....

http://www.thelocal.de/society/20100517-27243.html

However could explain how he became skeletonized so quickly....

Been there, done that....:crosseyed:

I'm glad that you're doing better though. This is a tough case.:shakehead:

When I heard ''turkey buzzards'' during Don Newton's interview, I realized there was something attracting their interest (not bones). I will be waiting to hear if they found the ''diaper'' .... whether it was with the body or if they have to go along the wash to find it (will be valuable forensics)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decomposition

He did not decompose fast due to AZ heat.... after reading this.... and other research...IMHO

http://books.google.com/books?id=oN...m=9&sqi=2&ved=0CDkQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q&f=false

I'm not following the conclusion he didn't decomp fast because of the heat from the link to the book.

The book is discussing on that particular page decomp factors in AZ (Sonora) during winter, and at high elevations.

The factors we had at this particular site (where Sylar went missing) was during the summer, during monsoon season (exceptionally high humidity for the area) and although considered high desert, it's right at or right below a mile in elevation IIRC.

I'm not arguing because I think that the natural progression in this particular case was inhibited. Meaning, there was a reason LE stated that he had been concealed from them. (I'm thinking he might have been wrapped in something some such).

Do I think skeletonization was complete? nope. I'm just not following your thought train is all :) Just asking for clarification :)

I don't believe they can press charges until they CONFIRM the identity of the remains and even after that, they will want to make sure they have their ducks in a row to make a rock solid case. JMO

They could have charged Tina with child neglect or child endangerment at any point. That doesn't require a dead child.

I sent her a link to the AZ victims's compensation fund. She should apply. If approved they will pay up to 5K in funeral expenses.

I agree, I think this is the best route to take. I think 5k is more than enough as well.

I want the best for Sylar, of course. But sometimes that just isn't possible. I do not think a $2500 headstone is needed. I was going to ask a company here, to donate a casket. They do it regularly for children and I have no doubt they would. But I don't feel comfortable doing that, when they are wanting a $2500 headstone.

You can get a headstone for $100. Just a regular granite headstone, a small one that looks like a baby one, but it has the name and dates. As well as a sentence at the top, bottom and a graphic with a border.

I think they can most certainly stick with $1,000 or below for a headstone. Overcompensating and doing too much now, because not enough was done while he was alive...isn't going to help anything. :twocents:

question of the day:

How many are located near the Beaver Creek campground?? I am not I am in a different part of the state.

I know that there have been many rest stops closed -- are there any rest stops near the campground??

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&u...ocal_result&ct=image&resnum=5&ved=0CCgQnwIwBA

rest stops link

http://www.azdot.gov/BudgetRoadmap/PDF/RestAreaFlyer.pdf

if there are any local locals who could shed some light on this ....

There is a rest stop about 2 miles south of exit 298 on I-17 (the exit leading to the camp ground). Last time we went to Flagstaff (about 3 weeks ago), it was closed. They had been doing some renovations, but I have not heard when it will reopen. It is called the McGuireville Rest Area.

BTW, I am about 10-15 minutes from the Beaver Creek Campground, in case you were wondering.

Beaver Creek Campground

Location: 47 miles south of Flagstaff a few miles off the interstate .Elevation is 3,800 ft.

GPS Coord: N34° 40’ 12.504”, W-111° 42’ 47.268”

now third paragraph on this link under Seasonal, Graphic and Micro environmental Differences... (it will not let me copy and paste sorry). It starts out.... The major location types in this study.... read this
I understand this is talking now of the approx. elevation of Beaver Creek Campground area, not at higher altitudes.

I am trying to factor into my thought process for humidity during monsoon. Actually trying to find a site that has humidity and heat index for that area that will go back so I can get a better idea. This was the only thing I could find on desert decomp. cannot find any body farms out that way to gather desert data from. I guess one is in the works for future unless anyone on here knows of one, would love a name or a link. Thank you

Thanks for the information -- I was thinking it could have been a ''dump'' site. Even though it is ''closed'' it may provide some clues. You could still park there and walk in right?

On a recent trip to Phoenix I was stunned by the number of closures of rest stops but you could pull off on road and walk in if you wanted to .... thanks for your information.

here's a link for weather underground (there's a history somewhere there for past conditions) currently it's 44 per cent humidity (monsoon season)

here's the snapshot of the conditions the day Syler went ''awol'' from the tent (25 July 2010)

Don't beat yourself up over it. Between the reports, this site, the facebook page, the blogs, there's a plethora of information flying around and it is very difficult to keep it all straight.

I see your point, but don't necessarily agree due to the fact that there are times when children wander off and have an unfortunately demise and the parents are never charge. This case is listed as accidental similar to Emmitt Trapp. LE would have to prove neglect which would be difficult without any hard evidence. Misty Croslin hasn't been charged with neglect and Haleigh went missing on her watch.

I'm not saying that I don't believe there is neglect involved here, I just don't think it's just that easy to charge for neglect as what people think.
