BBM. Yes. And it absolutely sickens me that she is likely going to be able to get away with this and that some ridiculous judge in the US is aiding and abetting her. Oh, her life is at risk if she doesn't get access to her mother;s funds, the mother she murdered? Actually, her life is at risk because she committed murder. That's why.

This whole thing sickens me. I can't believe the incredible injustice of a mother, abused and battered by her own kid, then murdered by her and then her own funds are used to bribe her murderer daughter's way out of trouble!

It is beyond comprehension. What a Banana Republic. Drug dealers are executed but sullen, arrogant, manipulative, violent, evil murderers can bribe their way out of justice.

I'll say it again, Mrs Mack was a better mother than I am. After all the cruel things HM did to her mother she still provided a trust for her. I would have left my money to a dog shelter than leave HM a dime. Jmo. When her mother set the trust up she was not thinking I'll die at the hands of my daughter and her boyfriend yes then pay her for killing me. WT*****

The facebook page of Kathryn Bonella is really interesting and reveals quite a bit about the conditions inside Hotel K. In the womens' prison alone, vicious beatings, drug-induced rages, lesbian advances and general bullying are common. HM will not be in for such an easy ride, despite her money, if she is sentenced to spend any length of time in there. God knows what it will be like for TS. Oh, and one interesting fact - Rachel Dougall, the British woman sentenced to 12 months for drugs offences, is pictured wearing the same (leather?) trousers that HM was wearing when she made her court appearance last week! Rachel claimed she was made to dress up in them to look like a stripper by the prison bullies. I wonder if they have a stock of clothing in the prison because I'll bet the ones HM was wearing didn't belong to her? It also looks like the inmates are made to wear white shirts for their court appearances. The one HM wore looks very similar to the one Lindsay Sandiford wore to her appeal hearing.

I think it's just standard for all persons being brought before judges to be wearing the same attire, white shirts and dark (black) pants. Maybe a respect thing? In every picture you will see other prisoners in the holding cells waiting for their appearances wearing the same thing. So I do believe there is a supply of white shirts and dark pants in the prison to accommodate for this and the prisoners are told to put them on before being transported to court.

I notice that HM likes to dress her look up though. In the holding cells she is usually without much makeup but she piles on the lipstick, slaps on some eyeliner and puts her hair up in various looks for her admiring photogs when she gets before the judges.

There are pictures of one of the default 'pens' they get put in when they first arrive. There's a picture of one of the isolation cells - it is pretty grim.

Those with money can upgrade to a shared cell. I don't know what the going rate for Western males is, but remember: HM wants $500/month just for food.

Well that's what she told her US lawyer. It appears that none of them are going to do the homework to establish that most westerners can live in Bali, outside of prison, for $500-$1000 a month if they are frugal and don't expect lavish accommodation or take out western meals every day.

We all know that the money will be used for her to make herself "comfortable" in prison, including her daily food deliveries. And since it's only been established that she will get this money for the next 4 months, are they suggesting that they are expecting her to be out of prison at the end of the trial? What about her medical bills for having the baby? Where's the cash for that? Why didn't she ask for it? Just looking at the immediate need, a bribe and some comfort money for herself I guess.

His path wasn't that straight to begin with. Has everyone forgotten his history? Known for creating dramas, being emotionally manipulative, lying straight to adults' faces? How about his arrest for assaulting a 44 year old man in 2012, or for disorderly conduct when partying on SVW's dime? How about usin g her credit card and monies for things like parties and plane fare, without permission? Or telling a buddy he was going to come back from Indonesia with money and posting how he might not come baaack from there?

HM is despicable and it is horrifying to me that she might bribe her way out of justice. But this guy is no poor wayward youth who was coerced by a wicked city woman. He murdere another human being in cold blood. He beat her to death so horribly that it was deemed torture. It takes a special kind of monster to do something like that. The man had it in him when he met his match.

Thank you gitana1, for this concise, sober, and devastating description of Tommy Schaefer. I agree with you entirely.

Heather is indeed a brutish demon, but she hooked up with someone who is also thoroughly evil. Tommy took an active part in the murder planning, came to the murder room armed with a blunt object which, with guilty knowledge, he hid while making his way to the victim, and has admitted that Sheila died by his own hands even while slandering her and blaming her for the supposed events which lead to her violent and bloody demise. He then unceremoniously contorted and stuffed Sheila's still-warm body into a suitcase using the weight of his pregnant lover and their unborn child to force it closed. He made his own child a party to the murder! To celebrate his achievement, Tommy bonked his girlfriend in a cheap hotel on the first leg of their attempted escape from justice.

I would add that Tommy has done unspeakable damage to his unborn baby. By failing to tell the truth about Heather’s involvement, he keeps open the possibility that Heather will retain custody of their innocent child. This fact alone tells me that his tears are entirely motivated by concern for his own hide and no one else’s. Loathsome!

It explains quite well the timing of the murder: very roughly, midway between Sheila making a request for a wake-up call (during the 6 am hour) and the time of the requested wake-up (during the 10 am hour). This is exactly the time when Sheila would be asleep, but long enough before the wake-up call for them to have made their getaway.

Just to give an idea of what it's like for women in Kerobokan, here is an account by Rachel Dougall of the time she spent there. Notice in one of the pictures that she is wearing very similar trousers to the ones HM wore for her court appearance last week.

If HM is still in Kerobokan after baby is born, things could change dramatically for her and her money is not going to protect her very much from the other inmates. Even the British granny on death row has been beaten senseless according to another article I read.

One: At least as many murderers are sentenced to death each year as drug dealers -- probably more. And all told, it's not many. About ten death sentences a year are laid down in Indonesia. Most people convicted of crimes which potentially carry a death sentence, and by a big measure, aren't sentenced to the firing squad.

Why do you think the text info came from the FBI? Heather and Tommy were arrested within a day of the murder. Wouldn't their cell phones have been confiscated then by Bali cops? These cops might have needed help with translations, and there may be matters of official interpreters involved, but surely even Bali cops know what a text message is. No?

However, I do agree with the idea that the FBI might be able to exert pressure, even if subtle. But how exactly? That's the problem to figure out.

Probably depends on a couple things.

1) what kind of access did the FBI have? where is the evidence now and has the chain-of-custody been preserved?

2) if the judges and the prosecution are in on the bribe, I would think they'd 'cooperate' with the defense. Prosecution doesn't bring up FBI testimony; judges don't ask.

Probably too much to hope for that the FBI has US court-worthy evidence of the text messages. If so, perhaps charges of 'murder-for-hire' could be brought if/when HM returns to the US, but I think you need the phones for that kind of evidence. I hope I'm wrong.

I must state that I'm not actually a proponent of the death penalty. But it seems very skewed, the system in Indonesia. Then again, I could criticize our own. People get more time for drugs than they do for molesting a child and sometimes even for homicide, including murder!

But I had this impression that Indonesia was a totally crazy place where drugs are seen as worse than murder. I'm glad to see I was wrong!
