An interesting comparison read from Bonnie McGrath citing the Bali case.Bonnie McGrath is an award-winning long time Chicago journalist, columnist, blogger and lawyer.
Title: While we're on the subject of sociopaths….

http://www.chicagonow.com/mom-think-poignant/2015/04/while-were-on-the-subject-of-sociopaths/

I was going to say the same thing because I picked up this from the NBC article:

While they both faced the death penalty, the three-judge Indonesian panel was lenient because Mack is a new mother and Schaefer was well-mannered.
Source: http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/bali-suitcase-murder-300881041.html#ixzz3Y8EZNP1M

Well mannered? Not according to his behaviour after the sentencing and I immediately saw a comparison with Boston Marathon Bomber after that CCTV footage emerged of him "flipping the bird" in his cell. It's a pity that the video of TS doing the same thing has only appeared in the Daily Mail, which is a U.K. newspaper. It should be published more widely and particularly in the U.S. media.

The only criticism I have of the Chicagonow article is that the author puts all the blame on TS, whereas HM was (more than likely) the instigator and put him up to it.

Wonder why they tagged this photo saying 'relative'?
APRIL 21: Heather Mack,19, of the United States holds her daughter whilst speaking to a relative ahead of her verdict hearing on April 21, 2015 in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.

Was it a relative of Mack's (or was it Schaefer's) or not a relative at all?

This woman has been seen with Kia in the courtroom so perhaps the reporters have confused her with someone connected to her. She has been around since one of the first court appearances and is likely an Australian expat who likes hanging around Bali prisons and helping foreigners for money. :notgood:

In the following photo, she is behind Tommy and sitting with one of his relatives (I think). Both of them are texting on their phones.

I believe there are 10 people scheduled for this round of executions. Did any of them murder anyone in cold blood and then stuff them naked in a suitcase tied up with duct tape?

It's an outrage for sure.

Or did they get their own room? ....

Special cell prepped at Kerobokan for Bali suitcase murder teen mom
By Coconuts Bali April 24, 2015 / 14:23 WIT
American teen mom Heather Mack is expected to spend the next 10 years of her life in Bali prison for her role in her mother’s murder.

But lucky for her, she’s allowed to keep her newborn with her in prison for up to two years and LP Kerobokan will give her the star treatment, with a special cell for mothers and their babies, reports Tribun Bali.
This was expressed by Dr. AA Gede Hartawan on Thursday.
“A special cell has been prepared in order not to mix inmates who have babies with the others,” Hartawan said, as quoted by Tribun.
But from the sound of Tribun’s report, it will not be a private cell, Mack will be joined by another prisoner who is a mother.

Great. So Stella will now be in a cell with her mother who is a violent personality disordered woman who beat and eventually killed her own mother, and a woman who is in prison for beating her own 4yr old stepson and leaving him to die.

I bet HM will get great mothering tips from her new cellmate. :notgood:

Where are the advocates for Stella?!? Favia...I'm looking at you and your Christian morals and values. Do something for your client rather than getting her mother more money to spend on takeout and cell phone bills. Get that baby/pawn out of there. :gaah:

Oh and that woman only received a 13 month sentence and was 4 months pregnant when she committed her crime and gave birth while imprisoned so she'll be out of there very soon.

Somewhere in all of our links, I believe I read that pregnant women and women with children are kept separate. Perhaps that was true at one time, but the prison got more crowded and/or there weren't that many pregnant women, let alone women who wanted to keep their children in prison.

It sounds like they're getting put in a solitary confinement cell usually reserved for violent inmates. HM may or may not decide it's an improvement.

FWIW, here's an image of Julian Ponder eating a meal cooked for him in Kerobokan - at a price, of course. HM eats and drinks cr*p because that's what she wants to eat and drink.

IIRC, some countries allow a citizen convicted abroad to be brought home to serve out their sentence. I really wish the US did this. For all its terrible reputation, I think both TS and HM are much happier there than they would be in US prisons.

And HM would most likely never have been allowed to have Stella in prison.

Oh boy, then Stella will be all alone with that mentally disturbed mother-murderer. :scared:

I seriously don't know how much worse things can get for Stella. It just goes from bad to worse. Favia is such a fantastic advocate for the baby. I bet she'll get lots more clients and an upstanding reputation with the great job she is doing.

No toddlers are not kept in US prisons, not even babies. They have to be given up to somebody.

Actually you'd be surprised LinasK. There are several mother and baby nurseries in U.S. prisons as well as other countries (Canada and the UK also comes to mind). It's a totally different set up of course but interesting to research.

It in no way compares to what Stella is being put through with absolutely no supervision and is not available to women convicted of violent crimes. They have to be approved and it's not automatic. No doubt it's what Favia argues when in chancery court NOT advocating for her client, Stella, but rather trying to get at the money for her mother HM (and her own fees) pretending it's in Stella's best interests to "bond" with her mother.

Here's a report from Canada, ironically featuring a prison just outside Chicago.

I agree with Grant Wilson. These women don't have rights to be a mother- they're criminals and drug addicts!!! And breastfeeding is not a requirement for babies to thrive. Plenty of children grew up on formula. There are also plenty of kids raised by foster moms and adopted moms that turn out just fine! This is child abuse, and it's BS that the child won't remember the environment. It's not a child's right to be raised by a criminal, and the nursery is not punishment for the mother!!!

Just a handful of prison/prisoners are allowed in the US to keep their babies with them. NONE are allowed if convicted of a violent crime.

How I abhor hearing the Indonesian government is going to go through with executing these drug smugglers while at the same time giving leniency to murderers.

Why give Heather a break on her sentence for having a baby, but ignore the fact that this other woman has children begging them to save her life? She, at least, didn't kill anyone.

I dread these executions, they seem unfair. I think the legal system there is all backwards and corrupt, JMO.
