BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

Those photos are devastating!! I'm sure that's why the "no fly zone" was put in place-as those photos are from May 4&5! Can you imagine what it's like now that it is June 17th??:snooty:

I saw a news story tonight and a company is doing flyovers and mapping the oil spill for everyone and I think they will release the photos. What I saw on them was unbelievable. The plane had to go back and refuel because the spill is so big. If i see any of them on the net i will post them.

If you feel like doing something, just go down there (anywhere on the Gulf) and support by spending time and energy in the region.

They need our support. Thank you for Caring.

Sea creatures flee oil spill, gather near shore

GULF SHORES, Ala.
Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena.

Fish and other wildlife seem to be fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast in a trend that some researchers see as a potentially troubling sign.

The animals' presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as fish run out of oxygen. Also, the animals could easily get devoured by predators.

"A parallel would be: Why are the wildlife running to the edge of a forest on fire? There will be a lot of fish, sharks, turtles trying to get out of this water they detect is not suitable," said Larry Crowder, a Duke University marine biologist.

Apparently the Coast Guard needed to make sure there are life jackets and fire exstinguishers on board!!! Are you kidding me? As I read somewhere else, thank God,during WW2, when the Brits used every floating vessel available at Dunkirk, there was nobody there checking for proper equipment. Government red tape at its finest!

Good link to oil leak cam-

There is more than oil gushing out of the hole in the Gulf-METHANE is gushing up too!! And it was known back as far as 2003!!:furious:

What makes the location that Transocean chose potentially far riskier than other potential oil deposits located at other regions of the Gulf? It can be summed up with two words: methane gas.

The same methane that makes coal mining operations hazardous and leads to horrendous mining accidents deep under the earth also can present a high level of danger to certain oil exploration ventures.

Location of Deepwater Horizon oil rig was criticized

More than 12 months ago some geologists rang the warning bell that the Deepwater Horizon exploratory rig might have been erected directly over a huge underground reservoir of methane.

Yesterday they only collected 8 thousand barrels of oil. Something must not be working. That means somewhere around 50 thousand or so barrels are leaking into the ocean by their estimates.

http://markimoore.com/oil-and-gas-collection-data/

I find it interesting that Fox and CNN (my cable provider doesn't have MSNBC) refer to barrels when speaking about the leak, probably about 60,000 a day but then refer to gallons when referring to how much is being collected, approx 336,000 gallons a day. Is this done to give the public a false sense of well being?

Here's the formula:

42 gallons make up a barrel of oil.

So, from whiteangora above - there were 60,000 barrels leaking (2,520,000 gallons)

And they "collected" 336,000 gallons (or 8,000 barrels)

NOT a very good ratio of spill to collection!!

Where's the Bounty guy? Ya know - the quicker picker upper!! (I know its not funny - but if we don't keep our "wits" (including our sense of humor) about us we will start to loose it!)

So that's more than 2,000 cars that could have been fueled for a year. My figures may be off, please correct it if it's wrong.

People are stopped daily and given safety checks by the Coast Guard daily, for the same reason. You think this would be a no brainier for them.

I am really thinking there are people in the government who wanted this spill and they wanted it to be bad.

They have done everything they could to make it as bad as possible.

At the beginning of the leak people from all over the world wanted to help and we did not let them..

Now 2 months later after letting millions of gallons of oil a day flow into the gulf we are letting them in.

"We have exhausted all our east coast supply of skimming vessels. We are now looking at Norway, France, Spain and other European vessels," Laferriere said. "Got to get them out to sea."

What a joke this has been. Why wouldn't you ask for every scimmer in the world to come?

The gulf is so big they could each run all day and never see each other.

A freaking lying nasty bunch is in charge and we have a president who has done nothing.

I agree with you 100%, our government is dangerous!
