BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

At least Obama has his priorities in order.

Well? What Well.

...........................

And Tuesday night's White House celebration of gay and lesbian pride month should be an upbeat event for Obama. That constituency -- which has been angry about the slow pace of some changes -- is likely to be happier at this year's version of the annual event, as Congress is on the verge of ending the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

It's not like he can drop everything else. No president can. It's sort of like lots of other jobs, you have to juggle multiple things at once.

The low oxygen level in the Gulf is pushing the sharks' natural food source closer to shore, which, in turn, is bringing the sharks closer to shore. Note the two-inch layer of submerged oil; this is different from the tar balls. Video shot near Fort Morgan,... Alabama (Bon Secour shoreline).

Thank you essies for sharing this video...this is so very heartwrenching to see all the fish and sharks so close to the shoreline...soon we will see dolphins and whales beaching themselves! I honestly don't recall ever feeling so helpless & hopeless.

Sea creatures flee oil spill, gather near shore

GULF SHORES, Ala.
Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena.

Fish and other wildlife seem to be fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast in a trend that some researchers see as a potentially troubling sign.

The animals' presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as fish run out of oxygen. Also, the animals could easily get devoured by predators.

"A parallel would be: Why are the wildlife running to the edge of a forest on fire? There will be a lot of fish, sharks, turtles trying to get out of this water they detect is not suitable," said Larry Crowder, a Duke University marine biologist.

This is true! I've seen it with my own eyes! I live on the coast in North Florida, and never in my life have we seen so many sting rays, turtles and dolphins so close to shore. We always see these marine creatures, but not in the numbers we're seeing. I must have counted over 100 rays near shore about 2 weeks ago in Destin.

Forgive me if this youtube video has already been posted. I just watched this and it is imperative that every single person watches this and takes action!

WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER TO HELP STOP THIS!!!

I presume this action should be taken after putting tin foil hats on?
Give me a break.
BP could potentially go bankrupt over this disaster. There is no reason on Earth good enough for BP to have done this on purpose.
I think this whole thing is bad enough without people coming up with giant conspiracy theories.

BP was told of oil safety fault 'weeks before blast'

He said to repair the control pod would have meant temporarily stopping drilling work on the rig at at time when it was costing BP $500,000 (£337,000) a day to operate the Deepwater Horizon.

Henry Waxman, a House of Representatives Democrat who is overseeing congressional investigations into the rig disaster, has accused BP of taking safety shortcuts to save money.

"BP appears to have made multiple decisions for economic reasons that increased the danger of a catastrophic well failure," Mr Waxman said.

Gulf Oil Gusher: Danger of Tsunamis From Methane?

<snipped>
By some geologists' estimates, the methane could be a massive bubble trapped for thousands of years under the Gulf of Mexico sea floor. More than a year ago, geologists expressed alarm in regard to BP and Transocean putting their exploratory rig directly over this massive underground reservoir of methane. Warnings were raised before the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe that the area of seabed chosen might be unstable and inherently dangerous.
First Tsunami with Toxic Cloud

If the toxic gas bubble explodes, it might simultaneously set off a tsunami travelling at a high speed of hundreds of miles per hour. Florida might be most exposed to the fury of a tsunami wave. The entire Gulf coastline would be vulnerable, if the tsunami is manifest. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and southern region of Georgia might experience the effects of the tsunami according to some sources.

In another setback, containment cap is taken off the undersea oil gusher

Tar balls have been reported as far west as Panama City and heavier oil is predicted to wash ashore farther east along the coastline in the coming days.

In Florida, residents and officials watched as tar balls contaminated their beaches and waters.

"It's pretty ugly, there's no question about it," Gov. Charlie Crist said.

The oil had a chemical stench as it baked in the afternoon heat. The beach looked as if it had been paved with a 6-foot-wide ribbon of asphalt, much different from the tar balls that washed up two weeks earlier

More oil gushing
Earlier, engineers had to completely uncap the broken oil well spewing into the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday after an undersea robot bumped into machinery being used to collect the spilled fuel. Hundreds of thousands of gallons more poured into the water as crews scrambled to replace a critical component.

The mishap left nothing to stem the flow of oil at its source. A camera recording the well showed huge clouds of black fluid coming out of the sea floor. It was not clear how long workers would need to replace the cap, which took weeks to install.

I am so disgusted with OBAMA and our entire government I could scream. I watched the video of the young dolphin being carried from the water in Pensicola, FL. The bystanders all said this darling animal was actually crying. :(
There were several other dolphins in the water acting strangely.
We need a leader in our Country.....where is he?

It breaks my heart just to read about the dolphin....I don't think I could watch the video. :( Also disgusted with OBAMA and our entire government!!

Let's see......entire gulf coast going down the can......or party at the White House? That's not too difficult a decision for our great leader is it?

The crewmember on the bridge of the Discoverer Enterpriser says the cap was placed back on the
gusher around 9 p.m. EDT. It had been off for more than 11 hours. The man, who asked not to be identified by name because he was not authorized to provide the information, says it will take awhile for the system to "get ramped back up."

Portions of Mississippi waters to be closed to fishing tonight

The executive directors of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality are closing an additional portion of Mississippi's territorial marine waters effective at 8 p.m. today to all commercial and recreational fishing, including all species of finfish, crabs, shrimp and oysters.

The closure comes on the heels of reports of oil being found in Mississippi Sound in the pass between Horn Island and Ship Island. Oil also has been spotted 11 miles south of Petit Bois Island.

Gulf oil spill: Boat captain, despondent over spill, commits suicide
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gre...in-despondent-over-spill-commits-suicide.html
<snipped>
William Allen Kruse, 55, a charter boat captain recently hired by BP as a vessel of opportunity out of Gulf Shores, Ala., died Wednesday morning before 7:30 a.m. of a gunshot to the head, likely self-inflicted, authorities said.

"He had been quite despondent about the oil crisis," said Stan Vinson, coroner for Baldwin County, which includes Gulf Shores.

I have been afraid of this happening. Our government needs to understand the magnitude of this disaster on the mental health of those who are seeing their lives and future of their children wiped out. Crisis counselors need to be available or hotlines set up as this type of desperation is just starting to hit at ground zero and will spread like the oil is spreading!! :furious:

This is so horrrible. I hate the most what it does to the creatures, epecially the birds. Birds are my favorite brings on earth and I can't even watch and see them covered and helpless in this stuff.

Why can't the butt rich oilmen do something about this? It happens over and over again and it seems this has not been any kind of a priority. Why haven't they used some of their big bucks to find a way to deal with these things and develope methods to keep them from becoming disasters?

I feel bad for all the people and animals involved.

I agree with you! What irritates me is why we're not having major telethons, concerts, etc., just like we did for those in Haiti? But when it comes to a disaster in our own back yard - nada. I've heard of some small telethons, fundraisers, but nothing even close to Haiti. We need help, or our future is in jeopardy.

Just my opinion.
