The position Britney's baby is in is called the "crusher" position, because that is exaclty what will happen to her baby in the event of a crash. If she were in a crash at 30 miles per hour, a 10 pound child could be thrown from the adult's lap into the dashboard or windshield with a force of 200 pounds.
JBean - I am living proof of this. When I was 6 months old, I was riding in the front seat on my mother's lap, with my Dad driving. For some reason, he had to stop suddenly and my head went clear through the windshield. My Dad told me many times how he stood at my crib that night and cried. I still have a noticeable scar between my eyebrows. It's frightening to think I could have been decapitated. This was in the days long before seat belts were invented, so we should all put this knowledge to good use.
I am so glad you are here to tell the story. :blowkiss: Your poor dad..oh dear.
My parents used to take family trips with all 8 of us kids piled into a station wagon driving cross country. None of us were belted. While we were lucky time after time, there are so many children that were not so lucky. We have the knowledge,we have the technology and to not use it is negligence.
We recognize the dangers of smoking now that were not an issue years ago. Only 22 years ago when I had one of my kids, there were smoking maternity rooms for the mother and the child stayed in the room with the mom!
I know a woman who lost her baby when she was 8 months pregnant, simply because she didn't have a seat belt on and she slammed into the steering wheel on impact killing her unborn child. if she had been restrained, she would have a grown adult child by now.
Point is, today we know about dangers, have come up with solutions and laws have been mandated It is our job as parents to protect our kids.
Moreover,if I was being chased by the paparazzi I would be even more diligent about securing my baby in his seat.
