Honestly, I think all of this is a shame...
Being 20 years old, I was part of that wave of guys who drooled over Britney during my early teen years. What attracted me to her was the fact she seemed like a good all-American girl who was also pretty cute. Note the word "good" there. Even if the quality of her singing voice wasn't the highest (if you use someone like Kirsty Hawkshaw as a benchmark...you know, a singer who can SING), I found her songs sort of catchy and being a middle schooler when they came out I could sort of relate to them, as they were something that my female friends could have just as easily sung about their lives. I even thought her cover of "I can't get no satisfaction" was pretty good, and I'm a fan of the Stones.
But then Brit turned nasty, almost overnight. It seemed to be about 2002-2003 or so. Her ideas, in particular--gone are the "good girl" images, now it's all about competing with Paris Hilton (who I've never liked) for being the "baddest girl". And her singing still hasn't improved that much. I thought that perhaps being young she'd eventually get better but no. (Singers do sound different when young--ever hear a 1939-1940 recording of Frank Sinatra and compare it to a mid-1940s or a Bing Crosby from 1931-1932 versus a more modern one?)
I think Brit needs to somehow turn her life around and go back to what worked for her in 1999-2000. You can even look at the attitudes of today's middle school kids versus what we thought back in the day.
