And I'm guessing their yearly baths weren't very relieving. I can imagine a very uncomfortable water temperature and harsh soaps... Like... If you took a bar of Lava soap and a loofah, you could basically scrub a person pretty clean if you're not concerned with their pain. I mean, they'd want to avoid causing bruising and visible abrasions, but idk... I feel like there was some pretty extensive planning involved in getting them all clean, dressed and out in public... I mean, while I think the situation became worse and worse over time, this is some calculated stuff!

I work as a disabilities specialist. Just to be clear, I don't diagnose and am not qualified to do so. I certainly haven't seen enough to be able to make a reasonable assessment in that area. Not sure if people saw things I haven't or what but regardless... even if he was on the spectrum... That doesn't steal a person's soul... There is much more at play here. Hybristophilia, folie a deux, bat shoot crazy, D) all of the above.

One of the most horrific child abuse and endangerment cases that I have ever seen,

I read an article today from a UK source that says Louise's sister wants her to suffer for the rest of her life for what she did to those kids. I have to say that I feel the same way. (I can't find the article now,) But it said that her sister reported that David kidnapped Louise from her high school, and that her parents knew nothing of this. It seems that David was a master of mind control and manipulation. My view is that he made the hone a "home school" to cover up his crimes. Louise was brainwashed.

My heart goes out to these poor children. I read that the hospital is keeping them together and will work with Social Services to help create a family environment for the children. As a society, we must take a closer look at how children are home-schooled and the reasons behind this. What religion did the Turpin's follow? I read that it was something that encouraged children to be a part of the family as a "blessing from God." However, this horror shows that some people are so unfit to be parents that the shock and pain goes beyond all comprehension. This will be a case for the record books.

I noticed in the Disney photo posed with the Princess, all the kids have crossed arms like her. Someone was choreographing the photos, but it could have been the idea of the Disney photographer, or the kids themselves, or the parents.

My niece has Aspergers and goes to the top public university in NJ. Her school is actually known for its engineering program, ironically enough. My niece may struggle with social interactions and some other things, but she is an incredibly bright young woman and is doing just fine in school.

THIS. 100% this. My son is ASD. Technically aspergers but they don't specifically diagnose that these days, at least not here in New Zealand. He is high functioning on the autistic spectrum. He struggles with maturity and social situations but absolutely excels academically. Something like engineering/computing/IT is perfect for ASD people as they tend to be quite solitary professions and/or allow people to socialise with other highly intelligent people.

Now this is typical but every ASD person is different, just like every non-ASD person.

This is the post that leads me to believe 8 was born in 2002 and likely 15, maybe 16.

Thanks for posting this! Seems like the 7th child contacted the authorities then and the 8th reported the lewd act. If I’m putting faces together correctly the 7th child particularly stands out to me in photos, like her smile is less forced. I don’t know...

It could also be anemia. My husbands sister has chronic anemia. Her eyes always look bruised underneath. The fact that they are thin and pale could also be signs of anemia, especially considering they were malnourished.

Probably scared the Prof would call the parents. Brainwashing can be very powerful... They didn't necessarily know better existed and had no reason to believe it ever would for them? IDK

I have three siblings who are engineers and one in-law engineer. None are on the spectrum and all are socially well-adjusted....but I can totally envision each of them alphabetizing their DVD collection.

I couldn’t tell about the hands on my phone but two things broke my heart as I watched this again - how hard the oldest daughter appears to be trying to have a good time and make this day special for her parents and how all three older girls lose their balance at various times.
