Thanks. I just worry about it. Of course, he is not a child or a pet.

My friend works for AAA, anyone can call them to unlock a car door when there is a heartbeat in the car, locked in. Everything is dropped, and that call is a priority to get a provider there ASAP to open up the car.

She is surprised how many people do lock pets and children in the car, of course, in this case, the caregiver is aware, and calls AAA usually panicked.

It is a free service, anyone can call, if they see a baby or animal locked in a car.
Wow, I wasn’t aware that AAA had that service.

I used to work for AAA and even I never heard that this was an available service to anyone, regardless of membership status. I'll remember this & tell other people about it also.

I think that it is not widely known, as they don't want people who do not have a true emergency to take advantage of the service. Unfortunately, there are people like this.

Actually, as long as they don't know, he really can't. But he likes to go on car rides. And sit in the car, listening to his talking book player. Then, he falls asleep. But, the windows are always open. He doesn't want to go in the store, just rides in the car. I am never very long though. And fortunately, we don't live someplace super hot.

I just worry, someday, someone will think I just left him in the car.
Adults are allowed to be left in the car----unless they were paralysed or very mentally compromised.

But if something happened to you in the store, like got caught in a stuck elevator, I assume your husband could speak up to a passerby if a long time passed?--- And he wanted to get out of the car ....

He is not strapped into a baby car seat and unable to communicate.

I cannot understand this case. Leaving the car running with your child inside, even though you left the AC on? Not only can the fuel run out, but someone could have carjacked her. Right in front of her house.

A nightmarish death of a toddler that never should have happened.

I know this is a different case and I don’t want to go off-topic but I didn’t see a thread for this and I don’t know how to start one.

I ran across the same article and just finished reading it. It says it’s being investigated to see if it was an accident. I’m confused too since the report said the dad left the car running with the a/c on with the girl inside. Maybe he purposely left her in the car thinking the a/c would keep her cool then forgot she was there? On a 109 degree day? Seems like he shouldn’t have done that.

MOO, is that many "hot car deaths" are probably done, because the caregiver is just tired. Maybe tired of the crying baby, or toddler. They are in the car, in a car seat, and finally quiet, maybe even asleep.

It would be so tempting to just let the baby/toddler sleep. So that the caregiver can just have a break. And then, they just start doing things, and actually "forget" that the baby is in the car, or the length of time the baby has been in the car.

I am not giving anyone a pass on this, just that I realize how tiring it is to take care of a young child all of the time.

I have a really bad feeling about this particular story.

This one doesn’t sound so weird to me . . . maybe they had returned from running errands and the toddler was asleep; he figured he’d leave the AC running while unloading the other two girls, then come back for her.

But once inside, he started putting away groceries and forgot she was still in there.

Although . . . Is it even possible that the car/AC really turned itself off?

I started a separate thread about this story.
