I hope he didn't put him in the lake, wouldn't his little body have floated to the surface by now due to gases? I hope he didnt put him in a suitcase. I would hope a big popular recreation lake like that would have cctv cameras.

I doubt cameras for most of the lake - but maybe around the gates?

The child wasn't a tiny-sized boy...it would have taken a larger suitcase I would think.

[h=3]"Cachuma Lake Recreation Area[/h]Open every day
Day-Use hours are from 6:00AM to Sunset
Office hours are from 7:00AM to 3:30PM
Gate is staffed from 7:00AM to 5:00PM and staffed later on Fridays during the summer."

How well is the area monitored for visitors staying after sunset? If it is well policed it would have made it a little harder to dispose of body/evidence at night time and I would think that it would be hard to go unnoticed during daylight since it seems to be a popular area. I know where I am from, there are hours listed but very rarely does anyone monitor the areas so people use it as more of a "suggestion".
It is not monitored well at all. It is a popular camping spot for partying for local young adults. Maybe 1 ranger on duty but they won't come by and check.

I wonder if the father went to the casino on Friday or Saturday night. The Chumash Casino is a huge draw to people coming to the Santa Ynez Valley. When traveling to the casino from Santa Barbara you pass Lake Cachuma.
They would have cameras in there right? If so it would be fairly easy to verify.

I know lake cachuma well as it is our reservoir. It is large but no there are not a lot of activities there at this time of year. You can rent a boat and go fishing, but the boat rental would have record of you and they require a large deposit. you can fish from shore but it is extremely muddy as we are only at 51% capacity due to the drought. You are not allowed to swim or wade or touch the water as it a restricted reservoir. The lake was recently stocked for fishing. There is a small camping area relative to the length of the perimeter of the lake.

You must pay for a camping site and there aren't that many. There is 1 small store there and i small burger stand. You would have to travel 15 miles or so to get into santa ynez valley for restaurants.

There is a trail around part of the lake but it is not accessible on all sides except by boat.

That's kind of what I figured just from looking at the place. No real reason to drive 2+ hours with a 5 year old just for a day trip.

Then again, if someone in Pasadena needed to get rid of a body, would they need to drive all that way to the lake to do it? There's a huge National Forest just to the north.

So, I just have to wonder...what brought the dad (and possibly his child) all the way to Lake Cachuma? Was there a family get together? Does he know someone in that area? Why that specific place, at that specific time?

You can check Edhat news santa barbara for frequent updates but the site goes down often and I just checked it and it was down. Roger does scanner reports on Edhat. There is free alcohol at the casino

Perhaps this guy is familiar with the lake? Maybe he grew up going to trips there?

The Chumash Casino is a huge attraction! ONE stoplight between the casino and Lake Cachuma.

So I may have missed something but was there a witness or something that saw them at the lake? I know LE was looking for witnesses but I haven't officially seen anything yet. Do you think Dad could be sending LE on a wild goose chase to get them away from a different area?

The Dad is stupid to tell LE he was at Lake Cachuma if he did put the boy in tbere. Ugh, I hope this doesnt end up being unsolved like the Bryce Laspisa case at Castaic lake. He has not been found to this day. Castaic Lake was last place he was.

That isn't the sort of place you'd take a child, though, is it? And it's sort of difficult to imagine someone killing their child and then driving 2+ hours to go do some gambling.

ETA: Of course, he could have met someone in the area to hand the child off to, I guess.

Yes, this is the only monitored area

Maybe he went gambling and left his child somewhere. It's a stretch I agree. I wonder if the Dad drinks to a point of blacking out.

I think it's difficult to imagine doing anything to purposely harm or put a child in danger, in general. I don't know if we will ever understand. I'm not sure I think he went to the casino, though.

There have been kids and adults found dead in a suitcase lets see Sandra Cantu 8, Shauna Haynes 21, model Jasimine Fiore 28, these are only a few found dead in a suitcase here in CA

I'm sure that LE has checked with the casino authorities. The valley is buzzing with this story.

I wonder if Dad had a girlfriend or dating someone. Does anyone know?

That is EXACTLY what I feel like dad is doing; sending LE on a wild goose chase
Imo
