Buonpensiero: Took a gray pair of Vans size 12 shoes

Prosecutors finish asking questions. No questions from Dolan. Moore begins cross-examination

Buonpensiero didn't personally do any comparison of shoes at Pape's house and shoe prints found in Pinyon Pines

Buonpensiero: Ammunition listed as "various caliber casings". Couldn't determine how old they were, what gun fired those casings

Buonpensiero: No guns found anywhere else in the house. Other investigator searched a vehicle at the home. Nothing found in the car

Buonpensiero: Search was conducted the same time across the street. Buonpensiero wasn't a part of search.

Moore going over picture of holster still in packaging. Buonpensiero says packaging wasn't open. In bag below labeled "product catalog," Buonpensiero said it was shotgun parts, cleaning stuff. Doesn't recall if it was for specific shotgun found at home

Thank you, Niner for caring enough to post these tweets. I shouldn't comment on how I think this trial will turn out because we all know you can never tell which way a jury will go but I am still hoping for justice for these victims.

Curtner: SIM card is not considered external memory. Back then, pictures could be stored on SIM card. Doesn't recall if USB was on the phone

Curtner: No way to tell if images came from external device.

Curtner: Does not know if phone is still available for examination. Curtner is excused from the stand

https://www.pe.com/2018/05/03/witne...n-pinyon-pines-murder-victims-love-interests/

A woman whose mother and younger sister were allegedly killed in a triple-murder by two men in Pinyon Pines testified Thursday that she didn’t believe her sibling was dating anyone at the time of her death, but an attorney pointed out conflicts in her recollection under cross examination.

Jessica “Drew” Friedli testified that she spoke with her 18-year-old sister, Rebecca “Becky” Friedli, in the week before she was murdered in 2006, and nothing seemed amiss.
[.....]
Also testifying for the prosecution was Riverside County sheriff’s forensic analyst Caleb Curtner, who confirmed that he downloaded a series of photographs from Pape’s mobile phone in 2007 that revealed a large cache of weapons. Pape told a sheriff’s investigator in September 2006 that he didn’t own any firearms.

Jury has entered. Prosecution calls fourth Greg Guillette, senior analyst with Gladiator Forensics, a telecommunications company that analyzes cell phone data. @KESQ @LocalTwo #PinyonPines

Guillette: His job is to analyze cell phone tower data & assist state and local law enforcement w/ interpreting it; Uses a GAR device- receiver that provides digital footprint & can be used to interpret data handed down from cell towers.

Guillette: GAR device is driven around areas of interest to determine what the coverage of cell towers is. He assisted with interpreting data in this case, the #PinyonPines triple murder trial.

Guilette: Cell towers are designed to overlap so calls are not dropped; testifies he drove around some #Coachella Valley areas for two days to gather data and create coverage map.

Guilette: When they drive around with GAR device, data is taken every two seconds. The device picks up GPS coordinates and precise location, which shows what tower signal is coming from and how strong the signal level is. @KESQ @LocalTwo #PinyonPines

Guillette: Analyzed defendants' cell phone data from the night of Sept. 17, 2006 between the hours of 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Guilette: Testifies that data “trails down highway 74” and that he found some coverage moving up Highway 74 around 7 pm the night of murders. Both defendants’ cell phones show the same data. He says there was no coverge found around Cathedral City from their phones during time

Guillette: Cell phone tower 523 located along Country Club Dr, close to 10 Fwy. Data shows it was used by both Pape & Smith's cell phones. Testifies that he did not find tower had any coverage in the Cathedral City area where pair told investigators they were during the murders

Prosecution has no more questions from expert witness Greg Guillette, senior analyst with gladiator forensics. Smith's defense attorney John Patrick Dolan begins cross-examination.

Robert Pape has been listening intently to questions for the last 40 minutes. Cristin Smith has been writing on paper for most of the testimony.

Defense attorney Dolan brings up zoomed image of Cristin Smith’s call pattern on screen behind Guillette. Shows Smith's cell phone did not ping on the cell phone tower that is located on Highway 74. Guillette confirms this to be true.

This map shows cell phone towers in discussion. Tower 523 is near I-10, Tower 745 is near Hwy 74. Defense attorney Dolan again establishes there was no evidence found that Smith's cell phone pinged off of Tower 745. Forensic analyst Guillette confirms @KESQ @LocalTwo #PinyonPines

Sorry, I can't copy the picture she has shown on Twitter

Cross-examination: Dolan is working to plant doubt in the dependability of cell tower evidence, as there are sectors on the map that do not have information that could have helped to verify/support data.

Cross-examination: Defense attorney Dolan: "There is no way you can tell the jury that Mr. Smith was on Hwy. 74 on the night of Sept. 17th 2006?" Forensic analyst Guillette: "I can only say it's possible."

Court is back in session after brief break. Robert Pape's attorney, Jeff Moore, is now cross-examining Greg Guillette, the senior analyst with Gladiator Forensics, the telecommunications company that analyzed cell phone tower data in case for @RivCoDA.

Guillette: Testifies that cell towers that did not pick up information were not relevant to the case. This would include several towers in the area, which are located near Hwy 74.
