Firefighters were dispatched at 2:30 this afternoon, it is now 7:30 in California. The family was just notified of Dianne and Paul being found. 5 hours later. The media was reporting on it before the family was even called.

They knew EXACTLY who she was before they ever loaded her in the chopper.

Totally Unacceptable.

So sad! Prayers to the family!
RIP Cecil "Paul".
Dianna, my thoughts are with you that your health improves and that you'll be ok.

For later discussion: Any consensus as to what might have led LE to conclude that their phones were turned off, especially so far away from where they were eventually found?

I hope we'll know more is Dianna recovers. 2 weeks man. I just can't even imagine.

It's summer time. Doesn't anyone use the BoyScout Camp?

How remote is that road? No cars passed by in all of this time?

If steelman's and forager's maps are correct, and they were found on that part of Chihuahua Road, it looks like there are quite a few structures, maybe even homes and businesses, on several stretches of that road.

So, crazy to me that it has been two weeks since they went missing. But I don't know the area at all. Can someone help explain how it is out there?

Thank you, forager and steelman, for the maps, so very helpful. Much appreciated.

How in the world did they get all the way up there? Thank you for the very clear and concise map steelman! And I'm with you all...is there no cell reception there? Not one vehicle in two weeks? Wonder how long he has been passed and I would think she had to have had some supplies in the car...water, food, very smart of her to stay with the car and not try to walk out on her own...Prayers!
And LE and the media owes a huge apology to the family! How totally unprofessional of them to not immediately notify the family!

2 weeks alive, hurt, grieving the death of your husband, dehydrated, no insulin, hot... I'm just in awe. I would have prayed for death.

Before I bash LE for not confirming to the family, I will wait for more information this was reported at 4:34.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — A Fullerton couple reported missing on Mother’s Day after they left a casino has been found on an Indian reservation in San Diego County, according to a relative.

The man was found dead and the woman was rushed to a hospital suffering from severe dehydration, their son posted on a Facebook page dedicated to the search.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed that it had received a call at 2:30 p.m. from the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation Police, saying that a man and a woman had been discovered at a Boy Scout camp on the reservation. Sherrif’s Department Lt. Jim Bolwerk said he did not know the ages or descriptions of the two that were found, any information about their vehicle, or whether one of the people was found deceased as reported by the private investigation firm.

San Diego Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 6 p.m.

Bolwerk described the Boy Scout camp as "at a very high elevation, mountainous, and very thickly forested."

"It's in a very remote area, so communication is giving us fits out there," Bolwerk said.

Knutson’s daughter Kristen Smith said last week that police showed her cell phone evidence that suggested her father had not taken his typical route from Valley Center to La Quinta.

Wow...I'm totally shocked. I'm sad and happy at the same time. I really thought neither had a chance of surviving this long. Someone was looking out for her...that's for sure.

I haven't read whether Dianna was conscious or not. I hope she wasn't in a diabetic coma. The article I read stated she was dehydrated and airlifted to the hospital. Anyone heard/read anything else?

Thank you for the heads up, and everything, trigger and rosesfromangels. steelman, I would have never believed they could have been found alive and your reasoning gave me a little hope. Thought of it today, pulling vines, and was wondering if they'd have more people looking. It's people like you who save people cause you don't give up hope, reasonably too!!! I learn so much from the two of you here. GigTu and Forager, well you both know.

Very awesome that she's alive. What she must've been through losing him.

Thank God for her and for her family and especially for all the good local people who kept looking and think of them, like marinthinker, here and others.

Mr. Knutson, Paul, I'm sure will be especially remembered and prayed for tomorrow, if ever Memorial Day could be even more bitter sweet.

May he rest in peace and may his family persevere.

Missing OC Couple Found On Indian Reservation, Husband Dead, Wife Severely Dehydrated
Laurie Perez, CBS 2 News @ 11, LA, May 24, '15 10:34 pm reports

They tried walking out a couple of times based on tracks found. The rain helped sustain them, to a point, as had been suggested by WSers, LE mentioned cups left around used for rainwater. Sounds like Mr. Knutson was a trooper to the end.

Their son, Robert was the one who

"discovered a break in the case on May 14. He tracked down security camera video of the pair’s Hyundai making a turn near the casino."

[...]

"ATV riders came upon the couple’s car Sunday afternoon in a remote area of the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation, only accessible by off-roaders."

[... the car was]

"resting at an angle on a muddy hill, under a tree."

I was asleep at the switch and missed the discovery by hours. But I saw that someone had already gone into the map and very competently added markers to reflect the discovery. And someone else, Windrower I think, thanked me for it! This is a business model I can work with!

Seriously. The Google map is 'shared' so anyone can edit it. It's easy to. If you have good, TOS compliant information with a location peg, please feel free to put it on the map. Let me know if I can help anyone past the learning curve. It's short and gentle.
