I went searching online for any recent news on this case, and the most recent was from this thread. Please tell me the world has not forgotten little Eliza already.

The gunman is still out there! Where is that Police Sketch? I'd be having a fit if I lived on that street. He shot three people and is responsible for the death of this baby. Why is it so quiet? :sigh:

I am also shocked and saddened that little Eliza's death appears to have been forgotten. Something like this, the senseless murder of a newborn and the shooting of three people should be all over the news! As someone else said, the community must be fuming as well as living in fear that this maniac may come back. Maybe the uncle and mother receiving face shots has compromised their ability to talk, there may even be some temporary/permanent damage to the brain that means they can't help LE. ...that's if they have both survived. I can't imagine how the mother must be feeling, to wake up in a hospital when your last memory is feeding your baby - to be told your baby is dead. Just tragic.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but if these people were in the country illegally would the father have been able to have a regular job? Here in the UK, illegal immigrants don't work regular jobs because is they did they would have to provide a national insurance number for tax purposes etc. Therefore, they usually work cash in hand jobs where tax is not an issue.

He's either legal or has a work visa issued by the government, since he's a vet technician.

I don't remember a crime involving a child, much less the death of the child, where there has been so little information.
I don't even remember them giving a street where the kidnapping took place, just the city.

Very strange when a child's death is kept so quiet. We all want to feel protected. I think it'd be good public relations for LE to keep making statements to the public. Two communities were shaken by these crimes. There's no hint of why this happened or a reason to keep it so quiet, but if they aren't going to issue a police sketch then even a lame excuse would be better than total silence.

From the Long Beach area:
"Delacruz was kidnapped from the family’s home on the 100 block of West 51st Street (map) after three of her family members were shot..."

I can only surmise that their are factors at play that we have no knowledge of however LE is quite aware. That can be the only explanation I can come up with to explain why everything has gone so silent. I'm also going to venture a thought that LE doesn't believe the kidnapper is a threat to others. This is strictly MHO. We will know in time I figure.

It's such a tragic outcome and I fear that whatever precipitated this event didn't warrant the level of violence that ensued.

IMO from the beginning this story didn't sound right. I think the police know who did this and the person isn't going anywhere, so they are getting all their ducks in a row. It says a lot when you have two people who should have died and one with a relatively minor injury.

It is pretty hard for me to believe that this father had someone kidnap his newborn , kill her and toss her in a dumpster. It is going to take a lot for me to believe that.

I think there are other explanations for the way the wounds happened. Maybe the shooter purposely left the father alive and wanted him to suffer. Or maybe the father was only wounded in the leg because he covered his wife with his leg or he kicked at the shooter. I think the reason the intruder did so little damage was that he only shot a few shots. I think he was worried about being caught if he stayed long and made more noise---so he shot two in the face and grabbed the baby and left quickly.

I think the perp is long gone to Mexico. If that's the case, there is little US LE can do, unless this happened to a high profile individual. Mexico is known to track our alleged perps in a reciprocal-type arrangement. Unfortunately, violent crimes are no stranger to Mexico and our southern border states (think coyotes, drug cartels, gangs).

Anything the victims tell LE would be kept under wraps anyway. Because this appeared to be a targeted attack, the victims should have valuable info unless they refuse to speak.

Totally agree Curious that it is crazy silent. I don't think anyone has forgotten baby Eliza but I do think LE is being intentionally quiet about it all. Remember a year ago that we were saying the same thing about the Belvedere/Flint thread? It was painful but it took LE 6 months to make an arrest and it was connected by ballistics. Hoping the same happens for Eliza and much sooner! :-/

For those curious here is the thread for Belvedere/Flint murders...3 beautiful young adults gone on Christmas Eve 2013.

Thanks SDHELPS for reminding me that sometimes LE is working behind the scenes even when it's quiet.

It's a comfort to know that many who flee to Mexico after committing a crime are later caught. We don't always hear that LE is working on finding a particular person across the border, and I don't know how they actually find the suspect, but they do. Whoever shot the three and is responsible for the Baby Eliza's death is going to be apprehended eventually. It seems like this is something LE should be able to figure out.

This case was on the news tonight. They caught this guy across the border. This 41 yr. old man who killed his 19 yr. old wife in the SD City College restroom fled across the border. It was so sad, she had gotten a restraining order, and he carved the word "*****" into the victim's back as he killed her. Eventually, he got caught right across the border in Tijuana, but it took awhile. He's going to spend life in prison.

"Perez fled to Mexico after the killing and remained a fugitive until he was arrested by Tijuana Metropolitan Police in February 2012 and returned to San Diego."

What a horrible guy! I am so glad he was caught!

Didn't say it was the father. What if someone else wanted everything else in his life gone, so they could be with him (even in their delusional mind). He could've had a stalker and not even have known. Just another crazy theory.

I'm thinking that the parents knew the shooter. I'm also thinking that the parents knew why they were shot, and I think the killing of the baby was to show they meant business. IMO.

Why shoot three adults and then kidnap a baby only to kill it and dump it within 24 hours??? The baby wasn't the object of the who incident, the baby was collateral damage IMO. If the family owed a lot of money and hadn't paid it (for instance) the people the money was owed to could have done this as a warning/punishment.

I think the parents know all too well who did this and why and I think that if this is the case, there is no way they are going to cooperate with police in an investigation. Fear. And this would be why this case has dropped off the media radar. No composite drawing because the family couldn't/wouldn't give a description. No memorial in the hood because the family doesn't want the notority. I think they just want all this to go away. I don't think the police have all that much to go on because I don't think they've been able to get anything important out of the family. JMO, IMO.

I believe they knew the shooter, too, and the reason. I just don't know if it was about money owed, or some kind of jealousy, or revenge, or a gang thing. It was way over the top hateful. Wonder if the shooter was not that familiar with shooting guns and did this more out of some crazy rage.

What I'm hoping is the family, and maybe some friends or neighbors, did tell LE something, but it is something LE doesn't need to share with the public. They might be working behind the scenes. People may have talked, but were promised to be protected. As I understood it, Eliza's Grandmother did take part in that vigil in their hood, and went door to door. Gee, there's not even a mention of how the two shot in the face are doing.

There's a $25,000 reward for info. If no one gave LE any tips it makes me wonder if it's some kind of widespread fear in the hood. I'm mystified waiting for some clues.

bbm: I agree and I do believe that neighbors know too JMO

I feel kind of bad accusing this family of anything. LE said they have NO CRIMINAL HISTORY--no drug history, no gang affiliations, have good jobs. I saw the video of the father dancing during the baby shower---he seemed elated to have a baby girl.

So I feel awful assuming they have done anything wrong to bring this on. Maybe a monster wanted to steal a baby to sell on the black market---but she died. ?

don't need a criminal background to be ''shaken down'' by bad guys.... MOO

He was inexperienced with guns for sure. It seems it was a small calliber gun, otherwise mom and uncle would be dead now. An experienced shooter, acquainted with different types of guns and ammo, would know that a single shot to the face with a small calliber bullet might not kill the victim. He clearly wanted to kill, at least the two victims shot in the faces, so if he knew that he wouldn't stop after one shot. The professional killer, gang member, would not use a small calliber gun and would assure that all the victims were dead before he left. This perpetrator didn't do it, he fired a single shot into each victim and did not check if they survived after that. But only three shots fired exclude a frenzy. A killer in a wild rage would fire till the last bullet. This perp most probably hated his victims (facial shots) but he was as cool as a cucumber.

Now, I'd have also a hard time imagining a frenzied perp taking Eliza away and killing her in such way that there were no external injuries visible. He was enraged enough to shoot three people in a brutal way, with a clear intent to kill. Why not to kill the child on a spot? He had a gun in his hand, all he needed to do was aim and pull the trigger (yup, that sounds horrible, I know). Why to risk, take her miles away and then dump in the rubbish bin?

And I somehow cannot shake this coincidence, that Eliza's father is a vet tech and her body was found in the bin near the vet office.
