What about recently vacated buildings? Sometimes they do still have water and even electricity for a while. If we change water to "access to water", it could be an old well or a hose run from an outdoor spigot.

In that area at that time, you would have things used during the war and vacated afterwards as well as old movie studios. Also buildings between renters and workshops... There are a lot of places it could be that no one would venture up on for various reasons.

As for the car/truck/van... What if the person had access to a vehicle that looked like it might " belong" in the neighborhood early in the morning. Something that was or had been or looked like a milk delivery truck or newspaper deliverer or similar.

Some motels of this time period (and I mean a "motor hotel" rather than a hotel) featured small cottages that were not attached to each other. So, while kind of unlikely, it is not impossible it occurred in such a place.

Have any of you read the Black Dahlia Files by Donald Wolfe? What are your thoughts on it?

I have always focused on her remains, and exactly what it would take to leave her in such a condition. What type of tools would have been used? The cuts on her body would tell us if these were sharp or jagged tools. They appear to be fairly clean, precise cuts from what I can tell. Then, I ask myself who would possess such tools? A surgeon, a veternarian, a butcher, a leather tanner, a coroner, a mortician, and who else?
Then, I ask myself where they could have committed this crime where they could let all that blood drain. A butcher, a hospital/surgery, a morgue. Where else?

The cuts to the body should help narrow the suspect range. But still so many questions.
The manner in which the victim was "displayed" suggests to the world she was a "loose woman". Legs splayed open, and so forth. The mouth sliced to silence for eternity.
If I were a bettin' gal, I'd say this wasn't so much the act of a mad man serial killer type, but more of a warning to all. I suspect this gal disloyal to a powerul underworld type, and well...the rest we know.
All speculation of course!

Marcel Duchamp Etant Donnes looks pretty close to Elizabeth Short one thing I think they over looked is the cypress trees next to the lamp, cypress trees usually represent death in art. http://207.56.179.67/steve_hodel/2009/08/black-dahlia-crime-scene-inspi.html http://megyoung.org/duchamp/ Also take a look at Man Ray's works on http://www.manraytrust.com/ you have to go to image archive then to Man Rays digital photo library.Look under "Photographies" take a look at page 54 titled Juliet she's laying in the same position and on page 56 take a look at the Mr and Mrs Woodman figures in 1947.Man Ray had a fascination with Marque De Sade.
The most damming piece of evidence is Marcel Duchamp's Etant Donnes that he kept hidden in his home and was only to be displayed after his death. http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/324.html http://toutfait.com/case-open-andor...a-murder-and-marcel-duchampaes-life-of-crime/

I spent some time reading his files and others on this case. The first time I had researched her murder other than reading an article. I am 100% convinced, based on a few additional (horrible) details that I picked up, that this was all about being punished for being a snitch, a blabbermouth. Not only that her mouth was cut in the manner it was, but that she was forced to eat feces before she was murdered.

IMO no way it was a serial killer. To me, the theory of her being a victim of the Cleveland Torso Killer is really, really far-fetched. I need to reread The Black Dahlia Files; but I still believe in its theory presented.

She wasn't forced to eat feces. The fecal matter in Short's stomach ended up there as the result of a rupture in her small intestine during the severing of the torso.

Small detail, but in an autopsy photo it shows the soles of her feet were dirty, as though she were walking barefoot outdoors.

Interesting that they use the somewhat lurid Black Dahlia moniker almost as much as they use Miss Short's actual name. I would have thought the FBI were more by-the-book.

Yeah, that surprised me, too.

70 years ago a week from Sunday-R.I.P.

I'm glad someone took a few minutes to remind everyone here of the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth's death, you sir are a class act. Big thank you.

A few blogs and articles were written to commemorate the passing of poor Elizabeth. Nothing new of course, sadly, but it's good to know a few people took time to pay homage to this beautiful girl. She won't be forgotten, I hope people will continue to write and talk about Elizabeth's story for the next 70 years and more..

I have read this one extensively and believe from the evidence and situation it was George Hodel, he is the only one who could get away with it because of his skill, position and status he was extremely intelligent as well. I don't think he was the only one involved....

This.

I have also done extensive reading and research on this case and I would be surprised if it wasn't him. Lots of circumstantial evidence pointing to him.

You can pick practically anyone over 10 years old back then in North America and build a case against them.
