Today marks 21 years since Maya and her husband were married. Maricris and Richard have organized searches of the golf course over the next two weekends.

Snipped from the link, below:

"...Weekend search team will be looking for personal belongings, as opposed to a body...

Chula Vista Police have already searched the abandoned, 164 acre Salt Creek Golf Club using dogs, but
Maya's sister says it needs a more thorough ground search..."

This is probably totally off-the-wall, but what if "someone" got fed up with Maya allegedly having "boyfriend(s)" and wanting a divorce, so he locked her away somewhere so he could have complete control over her? Maybe "someone" smuggled her out alive in the freezer, with holes shot into it for ventilation, and that freezer was conveniently replaced with another one. Maybe she's being held in some remote cabin somewhere. Food and other necessities could have been stockpiled in advance, or "someone" could be bringing supplies in as needed. I would hope that "someone" and "someone's relatives" are under constant surveillance, but there could also be a third party involved that we don't (yet) know about. "Someone" could even be threatening to harm the children if she doesn't cooperate or if she tries to escape. :(

Realistically, I don't think it's true, but it could be possible ... maybe. Just trying to think outside the box.

I wonder how long it takes to get the results of the most recent search of the house.

Hello, @moonrise, you've really thought this out-of-the-box-and-into-the cellar idea through, including why gunshots were recorded, and who might deliver provisions to the secreted prisoner.

Here's a case to demonstrate your idea is not preposterous. This husband kept his wife hidden for eight years. No doubt there are other examples recorded.

I'm almost sure Larry knew about this San Diego case. The husband in this case was in the Navy here in San Diego.

Just as the husband left town, Elizabeth's body was found in the bay. Yes, freezer.

if that was true.. it would make for a great book or made for tv movie!
Yes, I'm sure we all surround Maricris and Richard in light, love, and support. That said, we need all parties calm, and anything said in the press could potentially trigger a negative action. Calm....

As you say, it is best to remain silent at this time.

or get the kids out first.. then they can talk all they want.. just get her kids out that house

Wouldn't police know if the freezer LM gave away was new or used? Could they trace where it was purchased from a serial number? The timing of moving the freezer is very suspicious.
BBM. It most certainly is given everything else we know. I am holding *potential* accomplices in the highest contempt until such time as they wake up and cooperate, thus saving their own behinds.

Not only is this a tragic story, but the possibility of others close to the (yet-to-be-named) Perp helping, makes this a particularly ugly crime. What type of low life's would aid and abet in covering up such a heinous crime? Unless they step up and cooperate with LE *now*, I hope they spend a very, very long time behind bars.

That's exactly right. In some ways, this seems like a hostage situation. Allegedly, of course, and *Amateur opinion and speculation only*

If they aren't "hostages", then let them out to go see Maya's family members as they were used to doing, or to go to school. I believe the Chula schools are/have reopened to some degree.

This is all just alleged, amateur opinion and speculation

ITA @rosesfromangels!

Mays’s family has now hired a family attorney to try and reach a visitation agreement.

“We want to see the kids. We miss them. We want to make sure they know that our side of the family loves them,” said Maricris Drouaillet.

Great to see this -- CA has very good laws supporting Grandparents and visitation.

Many of you that have been following this case from the beginning will remember me mentioning about fifty times the case of Elizabeth Sullivan . She was missing from San Diego and her husband painted her as running off, but she was in a freezer. Years went by and the case went cold, and then...

GUILTY - CA - Elizabeth Sullivan, 31, San Diego, 13 Oct 2014 *Arrest* | Page 2 (websleuths.com)

MOO, regarding the Elizabeth Sullivan case... two little girls thought their mother abandoned them and now will grow up knowing their father killed their mother and hid her in a freezer. The act of murder of a spouse is so wrong, but living with the children trying to cover up the blood on your hands does long lasting damage to the children. My advice to LM would be to turn yourself in if you have dirty hands.

Here! You can watch the whole episode online. Please don't be annoyed that I keep bringing up this past case, but I believe Larry knew about this case. There's similarities. The case went "cold", but it finally got solved, just like Maya's case will be solved. Justice for Maya.

The Sullivan freezer thing …can’t they tell during an autopsy someone was frozen for 2 yrs ? Geeez he could have gotten completely away with it.
The one thing in common …both these ladies were tiny and could be compartmentalized in a freezer, suitcase, etc.

How surprising if the experts can't tell if a body has been frozen for 2 yrs. That can't be true... can it? Do freezers preserve that well that a ME or Coroner can't tell? I will admit freezers do a great job. I had chicken in a packed freezer for a whole year (throughout the Pandemic), and it really didn't look much different.

The husband in that case was ridiculous telling Dateline
he didn't do it and "it wouldn't make sense for him to have killed her." She had just told her friend on the phone that Matt said he was going to kill her.

Matt almost got away with it, but he made some big mistakes. MOO, Larry spent a whole year drawing attention to the failing marriage and acting unhinged. I bet he made some big mistakes. Of course, this is all JMO.

The yet to be named POI has stated that he watches crime shows and knows how it works. (Paraphrasing). This is very much in favor of the investigators, because he just revealed his amateur playbook. He will have done all the amateur moves like using bleach to wash away evidence; not knowing that will implicate him and that bleach isn't enough.

Perps are dumb.

WOW at that Dateline episode! There could not be any more similarities to this case. I was stunned watching that. So eerie that there is also a missing freezer in this case, too! It gave me pause to the idea that someone mentioned earlier in the thread about her body being kept somewhere else right now (perhaps in a freezer?!). <modsnip>

Are there any books that have been written, or podcasts, or other ID shows about this case that a certain someone could have come across in the last few years when listening to/watching "true crime"?

They can tell whether a body has been frozen, but I don't think it's a test that's done unless they suspect an error in the time since death:

Method for determining if a corpse has been frozen: measuring the activity of short-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (SCHAD) - PubMed

"The study which we have reported was motivated by an observation of homicide in which ignorance of the fact that the body had been frozen was responsible for an underestimation of the time since death. It proved that measuring the activity of short-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (SCHAD) could reveal that the body had been frozen."

I was away for a few days. Sounds like nothing happened?

Of course, LM has not been named a suspect, so we don't know (cough, cough) what happened to Maya. However,
regarding the Elizabeth Sullivan case you saw on Dateline... did you catch the fact that his mother, mother's gf, and his sister arrived in San Diego to stay at the house the same or the day after Elizabeth went missing. They didn't seem to like Liz much and she did not want them descending on her home. Similarities abound. Her body could have been in the garage freezer before LE came out to the house. She wasn't in the freezer when LE searched within a few days of her missing, but later she was back in some freezer someplace. I wonder if his mother and sister were aware of that. Plus he had a woman move in within a short time, and they had a baby together and Liz's daughters lived with them. Did that new woman know? Apparently, or so it seems, murdering husbands sometimes have some help and protection from supportive family and people who are willing to overlook his murderous ways. All MOO.

IIRC, it was reported but I doubt I can find a link now, that the 9 yr. old daughter was the one to last see Maya that Thursday, not Friday as LM tried to imply.

It was a family member last saw her or was in contact with her at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday night, and I'm pretty sure that's a correct fact according to the official Find Maya FB page.

Last seen came from one of the daughters. I remember this went against what the father was saying that he left the girls to be home schooled by Maya on Friday. That little girl had to dispute what her father was trying to pass off as an incorrect timeline. That's how I understood it. It must be very uncomfortable for the children. We all feel helpless. All we can do is pray.

^^^ Remember, Larry the husband tried to say Maya was still there on Friday, but she was last seen by a family member on Thursday. Family member was one of the daughters, IIRC.
