The attack happened at their home in San Francisco, not in Washington DC.

Sometimes, people who break into the home of famous people are sometimes a bit crazy and/or under the influence. When a man invaded Buckingham Palace years ago and wandered to the Queen's sleeping area, she was able to talk calmly to him as a distraction until security arrived.

In 1995 an intruder broke into the Prime Minister's official home in Ottawa, Canada. The PM's wife was the person who became aware of an intruder while the on duty security team missed it. The RCMP provides the security detail for the PM.

Glass does not behave the same way as snow. Snow is light and fluffy. Glass is not, especially if there are large chards or tiny pieces that don't pile up the way snow does. The purpose of breaking a window like that is usually to open the lock, then open the door, not necessarily to crawl in through the window. MOO.
I agree, and from my own experience, I would hazard a guess that the glass was laminated safety glass--not tempered glass. That's just my opinion by looking at the breakage pattern and the glass on the ground.

WASHINGTONThe Justice Department will announce two federal charges Monday against the man accused of brutally attacking the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., two law enforcement officials told NBC News.

The FBI has been working with San Francisco police and the Capitol Police on the investigation into Friday's attack on Paul Pelosi. It's unclear what charges the DOJ will bring.

David DePape is expected to appear in court as early as Monday or Tuesday to face separate state charges. San Francisco police said DePape would be arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with serious bodily injury, elder abuse, threatening a public official, or family member, among others...

Fed criminal complaint in the Pelosi attack:

@LisaDNews

Federal prosecutors: - This was an attempt at seizing or kidnapping
@SpeakerPelosi
- Depape had zip ties, tape, rope and at least one hammer. - After a struggle over it, Depape swung a hammer into Paul Pelosi's head and per officers knocked him unconscious.

- Paul Pelosi was asleep when David Depape came into his room and said he wanted to talk to "Nancy". - Paul said she was not there. Depape said he would sit and wait. - Paul Pelosi was able to go into the bathroom and then call 911.

- "Depape stated that he was going to hold Nancy hostage and talk to her" - If she told the truth, he would let her go. - If she lied, he would break "her kneecaps

- Depape said he saw Nancy Pelosi as the "leader of the pack" of lies told by the Democratic Party. - He said if he broke her kneecaps she would have to be wheeled into Congress and that would show others there are consequences for actions

Depape said he wanted to tie up Paul Pelosi so he (Depape) could sleep. He started taking out twist ties (how prosecutors describe)from his pocket to tie up Pelosi. - After this is when Pelosi made it to a bathroom and grabbed his cell phone.

"Depape explained that he did not leave after Pelosi’s call to 9-1-1 because, much like the American founding fathers with the British, he was fighting against tyranny without the option of surrender"

"In addition, law enforcement searched Depape’s backpack at the Pelosi residence, and they found, among other things, a roll of tape, white rope, one hammer, one pair of rubber and cloth gloves, and a journal"

Case is filed in federal court in San Francisco... These are federal charges.. in addition to the state charges expected from local prosecutor Assault charges comes with max sentence of 30 years prison Attempted Kidnapping has 20 year max

Yikes! After reading that and all of Depape's online stuff I'm wondering if he will be found mentally fit for trial. Hopefully some time away from drugs will help. JMO

David DePape, the 42-year-old illegal immigrant from Canada accused of breaking into the home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week and attacking her husband with a hammer, allegedly wanted to hold the congresswoman hostage and threatened to break "her kneecaps" if he caught her lying, according to court documents.

It’s weird and scary how DD was able to walk right into PP’s bedroom undeterred. Perhaps he forgot to set the alarm. idk

DePape also allegedly admitted to breaking into the home, using the hammer to shatter a glass door and surprising Paul Pelosi in his bedroom. He also allegedly confessed to cracking the 82-year-old's skull.

I was thinking the same thing. No mention of an alarm waking Mr Pelosi up, warning him of an intruder or notifying police. JMO.

I realize there are violent crimes all the time (I'm on WS for pete's sake), but it's horrible and makes me very sad that someone specifically targeted an elected official in the US and wanted to break that elected official's kneecaps. The motive seems to be anger against an elected official with the reasoning the official deserves to be hurt.

That shocks and upsets me more than speculation about how the glass shattered.
