Well, if he's convicted and gets the death penalty, he'd have to reach about 110 before his execution date arrives.

Look up Ricardo Rene Sanders. He was sentenced in 1982 for a vicious multiple murder and his appeals are ongoing. Just one example of many in the broken state of California.

I finally got around to checking.
Next court date, 2/22/22 at 10 am
This Tuesday.

It's been over four years since his arrest and I have no idea when this thing will go to trial. I can only access the dates and times of his next hearing.

Thanks for the update! Yes, I noticed there is not much in MSM about this case unfortunately.

The media disappears in these cases until the trial happens. Unless the family of the victim makes a lot of noise it's a non-story. The vicious murder of Brianna Kupfer is already headed down the memory hole. There's a long, long road ahead before her killer answers to a jury. Maybe even a forever road if he gets sent away to a mental hospital. We can only hope he is locked away for the rest of his life.

In the case of Suzanne, her killer's trial could still be several years away. The court system in California is a sick joke.

how was Bacom connected to Suzanne or was it random? anyone know?

From the SFGATE:

"Rackley said Bacom had shown interest in Suzanne’s sister, Stephanie, and had brought her flowers and candy in an attempt to woo her. But Stephanie did not reciprocate his feelings, Rackley added.

On the night of Suzanne’s disappearance, Bacom and Stephanie had plans to meet, but Stephanie blew him off. Rackley said he and Glod suspect that Bacom showed up anyway and when he couldn’t find Stephanie, he decided, “Suzanne will do.”"

Suzanne Bombardier's sister takes the stand as 1980 Antioch murder trial begins

Feb. 28, 2022

MARTINEZ — When 14-year-old Suzanne Bombardier arrived at her sister’s Antioch apartment to babysit her nieces on June 21, 1980, she brought a sewing machine along with her overnight bag.

Suzanne’s plan was to sew clothes for Barbie dolls, make dinner, put the kids to sleep, then watch TV until she fell asleep while her sister, Stephanie Mullen, returned from working a night shift at a local Mexican restaurant and bar called Chichén Itzá. Instead, Suzanne disappeared, sparking a four-day search until her body was discovered along the Antioch River. She’d been stabbed once in the chest.

The case went cold until December 2017, when a twice-convicted sex offender named Mitchell Lynn Bacom was linked to the crime through DNA. Now, four years after Bacom’s arrest and nearly 42 years after Suzanne’s death, Bacom has gone before a Contra Costa County jury.

The very first prosecution witness was Mullen, the last of Suzanne’s loved ones to see her alive and an acquaintance of Bacom, who dated him briefly. Mullen recounted her final interaction with her sister: She was invited to a birthday party after work that day, so she had Suzanne run some clothes over from her apartment a short distance away.
[.....]
During cross-examination, Mullen was questioned about her relationship with Bacom, including whether they were intimate and if she got the impression he was into anything “kinky.” Bacom’s attorney, deputy public defender Cynthia Scofield, also asked Mullen about another man she’d briefly dated who was refusing to take a hint. Mullen testified that man showed up drunk, six-pack of beer in hand, demanding another chance with her, about 12 hours before Mullen left to go to work the evening before Suzanne went missing.

During her opening statements, Scofield suggested that she will argue the other man was responsible, but didn’t detail for jurors exactly how she expects to prove her client’s innocence. She did say she was confident that by the trial’s end, Bacom will be cleared.
[.....]
Knox told jurors she will introduce evidence that links Bacom’s DNA to the sexual assault on Bombardier. Jurors will also get to hear about two sexual assault convictions, including a 1981 conviction for forced sodomy on a person younger than 14 that put him in prison for 12 years. In 1980, Bacom was living in Iselton and working as a mechanic.

Out of the jury’s presence, Knox also told the court she was still sorting through several large binders full of pornographic images found on Bacom’s phone, some of which will be “presented to the jury” to prove that Bacom is a sexual deviant.
