Remember, he went to university of alberta and unless he had a relative in Edmonton to stay rent-free, he had to pay for housing there. Although tuition wouldn't have amounted to very much, it would have had to be paid for as well, along with incidentals.

So, either his parents paid for everything (possible), or he had another source of income that was under the table (also possible and could very well have included cash wages for farm work), or a student loan (for which he'd need a SIN). Or, he had a SIN before age 20 and this has been misreported. You don't need a SIN to apply for university.

Or he may have been awarded a scholarship?

It gives me great confidence that LE is leaving nothing to chance with their prosecution. The Mexico element must be of significance to justify the expense of this trip and method of inquiry. Perhaps the doubt some of us had myself included, as to whether AL had a property in Mexico seems to be more certain he did versus just his brother having property..

Scholarships are financial transactions that require a social insurance number.

I was awarded one without. I never took it up so don't know if it would have been required at some point though.

I still See a ring. Thank you Lori

No problem cherchri...I was actually hoping I would spot something...with the thought of possibly a Mrs in the past & maybe gain a bit more insight into DG...JMOO

We know that prosecutors will be in Court next week on the murder charges. Have to wonder the timing on the Mexico investigation in relation to the upcoming court date and whether LE are making certain their case is rock solid going forward from that court date and wanting to submit a comprehensive case on Aug 14th.

I see it clearly here Lori thank you. Guess it could be any old ring and not necessarily a wedding band. It's just that it's on the wedding ring finger. Totally intrigues me. Was there perhaps a wife at one time and would she have known what her real surname should be....

That's what I was wondering too...if she knew if she was Mrs H or Mrs G...*that's a big 'if'..depending IF there was even a wife*

It would also change a little bit of the perception by neighbours etc that he is a complete loner....

If he had a wife...he had to interact with someone...at some point....one would assume?

Just so many thoughts going through my head on this case...too many.....so many puzzle pieces missing.....JMOO

I know I will want to be reading everything on the trial date later this month.

Neither here nor there really. Some of us see it and others not..... If there is a ring I guess it could be any old ring and not necessarily a wedding band. Or the wedding band was all part of his story ... less attention, a good excuse for not socializing with others at work ... I've been tempted to throw on a wedding ring on occasion ;-)

You are a clever Buttercup! That thought never occurred to me. Would make a good "cover"

His convictions, however, were for non-violent offences. He had faced weapons and assault charges in 1980s and 1990s, but they were dropped - See more at: http://www.timescolonist.com/dougla...l-past-records-1.1206953#sthash.00zgekbX.dpuf

How can an assault be non-violent? Wouldn't a person possessing an illegal weapon have it for violent purposes?

I wonder if a deal was struck and these charges were stayed in exchange for info., thus the trip to Mexico.

Is Mexico a stop over on the way to Panama??

Interesting....perhaps this is why he continued his life of crime?

iF LE is in Mexico fellow sleuthers, what would our LE hope to find( in unfamiliar territory) that they woułdnt recieve from a cooperating foreign LE agency?
