Campbell was supposed to meet Kirwan around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Big Al's but she never showed up.

He said he didn't want to drive all the way into town because his car inspection and insurance is up and he also isn't supposed to drive after midnight.

He said this isn't the first time that he and Campbell have agreed to meet at a nearby location because of the same reasons.

Wednesday night Campbell took part in a riverside vigil for Kirwan.

"We're all going to hope and pray for her safe return," he said.

So where are her parents? The only one speaking to the media is the boyfriend. I wonder if either, they are so devastated that they can't speak, or, they are just waiting to see what 'others' say in public. I know which one I'm leaning toward.

Is Amber from New Glasgow, or is she just going to college there?

I honestly don't know if Amber has always lived in New Glasgow or not. The question on my mind regarding the boyfriend Mason being front and centre is: did Amber have a falling out with her parents perhaps when she moved in with Mason approx. 4 months ago.

I would like to hear from Amber's parents/guardians.

This doesn't answer your question about Amber's parents, but gives a bit of info:
Chickness said Kirwan works part-time at Proudfoot’s Home Hardware in New Glasgow and is taking some courses at the community college. She said her friend often talks of becoming a nurse.

She said she grew up in the Lourdes area and graduated from Northumberland Regional High School in 2010. She moved in with Campbell about four months ago. They had been dating for a couple of years.

Map of New Glasgow with Big Al's and Dooly's marked. Also have found a live webcam near the area.

Live WebCam (refreshes every 20 seconds): http://ecfm.ca/webcam.php

Dang Amber, if you are able to read this: Come home, there are a lot of people who love you and even total strangers are worried about you.

ETA - see Hazels map - down a couple of posts as Big Al's is not where Google indicated

How was Amber planning on getting home when she went out that night?

I mean was her request for Mason to pick her up not according to her original plan?

And why isn't Mason supposed to drive after midnight?

:waitasec:

Do we know which way she walked to Big Als? If she walked straight up that street of Doolys it looks like she would have passed the camera?

I'm ASSuming, but I hink I read that he had an N license(NEW my understanding) which would mean he can't drive after midnight.

But from various quotes I have read so far he has said all of he following:

- he dosn't have a license to drive when he was driving
-his care is not safetied
- he does not have insurance
-he had been drinking.

I guess he's just trying to be "really" honest?

ETA: yes as per NS guidelines, with a new license, you cannot drive from midnight to 5AM.

Elepher, I got that same address for Big Al's from Google, but then found out that is not the correct location -- Big Al's is north of George Street.

Here is the corrected MAP which I had to do manually.

Distance: 4 minutes walk

Big Al's street view: http://g.co/maps/vcyhf

Dooly's street view: http://g.co/maps/x9uvw (I see parking close to Dooly's)

That was my thinking too ellabella - wonder if the police know there is a webcam there and have they checked it? The webcam would record for a period of time without recording over I would imagine but am not sure about this.

The webcam may provide some very useful information.

Thanks, so if Big Al's is north of George Street then the webcam would be of no use then as it is south of George Street ..........ugh.

Elepher, check the MAP I posted above.

Big Al's is located north of George Street, so unfortunately, it was the opposite direction, and Amber would not have passed by the webcam area.

Editing to add: just saw your latest post Elepher -- exactly! sadly :(

If he had been drinking, would that mean he was not working a night shift, and had been hanging out with the 'boys'?
From this article, it appears the original plan was for him to join Amber at Doodly's. Wonder why he was unable to?
He said Kirwan took a cab into Dooly’s and he had planned to join her, but was unable to.

No offense to New Glasglow but I really dislike the appearance of the trek Amber would have made alone in the wee hours of the morning!!!!! It seems rather desolate! So much (sometimes green) space between buildings, not very residential...with several stretches of nothing! Seems as if there's sidewalk only on one side of the road, the side lined by the woods!

ETA: And she didn't even have her phone if anything did happen while walking!!!!

:furious:

I had the exact same reaction when I did the Google-street-view walk. That wooded area to the right with just a few houses, and parking spaces to the left, then nothing only walls, very very dangerous area for a woman to walk at night, regardless of the short distance, I would have been terrified, JMO.

This misleading business is bugging me...

Found here: http://www.ngnews.ca/News/Local/2011-10-10/article-2773021/Amber-Kirwan-still-missing/1

A Facebook profile called "New Glasgow Police Services" is giving information about the search but MacDonald said it is not an official police page and that the department will be investigating who is responsible for the page.

The profile now has a note up saying: "this is not a police officer or a dispatcher etc when i made this page i didnt expect all the likes wich i do appreciate i really do i thank for that but i had thoughts of closeing it but when amber went missing i thought it would be a good idea to leave it up and help each other out to find her thats why its up and the updates i get are the ones i know or are the ones i see so lets keep searching and bring her home."

The site claims that Kirwan was spotted at the Needs around 9 p.m. in New Glasgow with a man yesterday, but MacDonald said there has been nothing confirmed although police are investigating rumours. He said they are going to many businesses to see if they have any video of the woman.

A Needs employee refused to comment about the woman’s disappearance. An employee of Dooly’s who was working the night Kirwan went missing, said that the woman was not kicked out of the establishment as some rumours have said. She said she didn’t remember seeing Kirwan, but there was only one woman kicked out and it wasn’t her.

And which came first, the chicken or the egg?

That wooded area to the right with just a few houses, and parking spaces to the left, then nothing only walls, very very dangerous area for a woman to walk at night, regardless of the short distance, I would have been terrified, JMO.

So we have a different reaction...

“We were standing outside Doolys in a group and we were getting ready to leave and she said she was going to meet her boyfriend at Big Al’s,” Chickness said. “We told her we would walk up with her and get our cab from there but she said not to worry. She would be fine.”

Chickness said there was a large crowd standing outside the bar at the time and she never thought about her friend again until Campbell texted her and asked if she’d seen Kirwan.

“He said she never showed up at Big Al’s,” she explained.

Chickness said she figured that Kirwan went somewhere else but when Campbell contacted her again the next morning to say she never returned to their Pictou Landing home, she started to take the situation much more seriously.

Kirwan had been visiting with friends earlier in the evening before a group of them had moved onto Doolys, said Chickness and added Kirwan had forgotten to take her cell phone to the bar and only had one drink while was there.

“She was in a good mood. She was happy,” she said, adding this was only Kirwan’s second time at Doolys since she turned 19 in August.

Amber's friends wanted to walk with her up to Big Al's with her but didn't and when the text arrived that Amber hadn't arrived no one paniced until the next morning when contacted again....

:waitasec:

What did the bf do after he texted the friend that night?
Did he just go home? Was he worried thinking why she was not calling him? Was he able to sleep that night, knowing that it was uncharacteristic of Amber to disappear like that?

bf interviewed starting around the 02:26 mark: http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/News/Canada/NS/1305553631/ID=2152567925

Hazel I'm afraid you have the answers to your questions above!!!!

I want to respond to the video interview...but I...for starters, I've never seen anything like it.

bf interviewed starting around the 02:26 mark: http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/News/Canada/NS/1305553631/ID=2152567925

from the video clip:
I haven't slept since Saturday I had you know I have been having trouble remembering what I've done from the time she went missing to the next day when I started searching I've had trouble picking out bits and pieces of what I was doing completely that day but for the most part they have every bit of my information, everything I've done, any thing I've you know...any leads I've followed up on any calls I've gotten you know they know everything...
