How much the very tough Honey might have been enthusiastic about things like these .....? Especially, if the planned future home may have been too large/too expensive/too unnecessary in BS' eyes?

If a husband’s investment endeavours resulted in a lack of money to build a new home that the wife wanted, if there was an ongoing struggle between “this or that”, I can see how that might create conflict. But the Shermans were billionaires with more than enough to do both so that sort of situation wouldn’t apply.

However I could imagine that a wife might use the example of a husband’s tendency to finance other people’s dreams and schemes as a reason why creating their own dream home to enjoy together in their senior years makes perfect sense.

Assuming loans to the brother in law will not be called in? imo, speculation.rbbm.
Endless court battles, angry relatives and shady players: the truth about Barry Sherman
"A year later, Sherman had a run-in with the FBI and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over a mail-order scheme he ran with his brother-in-law, Allen Shechtman. It involved a Bahamas-based company, Medicine Club, mailing Apotex drugs, including generic Prozac, from Canada to half a million U.S. households without prescription. Medicine Club pleaded guilty to one count of illegal interstate commerce and was fined US$500,000 for selling drugs without approval; it was also forced to pay $339,000 for investigative costs. Authorities had been tipped off by U.S. drug manufacturers, entrenched Sherman foes. (Sherman bankrolled another of his brother-in-law’s ventures, Martin Ross Group Inc., a jewellery company that filed for bankruptcy in 2015, owing $5.2 million to two Sherman-controlled companies.)"

The loans may have been made to the corporations without personal guarantees (which would never happen in real life), or Sherman may have taken equity.

If they were loans, he was oddly forgiving to certain people.

Absent a written agreement precluding it, the estate would be free to be more aggressive than Sherman was.

Three mentions of jewellery/diamonds. The first probably relates to the brother in-law’s business. Was it originally a takeover of Dana’s prior pursuits, we don’t know.

“He drove a clapped-out old car, refused to buy a new television when his old one barely worked, bought cheap shoes and clothes and would sneak back into the theater when he went so that he could see a second movie for free.
In stark contrast, (Kerry) Winter said, Honey was rumored to have one of the world's largest diamond collections.”

Which brings me back to wondering if the diamond found outside the S house was a)genuine b) belonged to HS c) fell off in a struggle d) stolen& accidentally dropped e) planted there by someone for some reason f) unrelated, lost by other owner g) wardrobe piece for tv reenactment h) complete fluke find of earring H previously lost. ???.....

WARMINGTON: Barry Sherman’s ex-biz partner knew ‘from day one’ couple was murdered
“It was in the gutter down at the bottom of the driveway,” said crime specialist Ross McLean, who was also there.

“It could have been there for weeks or from all the action at the house the day before. It’s hard to tell.”

But one thing police can do is match them up with any jewelry Honey Sherman may have worn, owned or that could have been missing.

McLean did an online search and found some similarities in earrings the generous fundraiser, Honey, wore. It may be nothing.

But in a case where there’s been few answers ,it also could be something."

c) is very possible-coming off in a struggle.

The TPS were out there with metal detectors, why didn’t they find it? During 6 weeks, no less.

However, it doesn’t look like jewelry you’d wear to go to an afternoon meeting with your architect, IMO.

e)-planted could be true.

My guess is some of HS’s jewelry is unaccounted for.

In theory, TPS or the Klatt investigators found the jewelry in the photos *inside* the home, but did not find their matching pair. They were planted to send a message.

It looks like one broken earring, but it’s very clean-looking for being found in dirt. If it is two pieces of one earring, how likely is it that *both* pieces were found together?

I just noticed something.

What’s this about. Either TPS collected the earring when it was discovered or it was turned over to the PI team but it can’t be both. I’d have to question the reliability of Donovan’s sources.

“Toronto Police Det. Martin Woodhouse seizes two earrings at the end of the Sherman driveway on Jan. 27, 2018.”

But Nov 1, 2018 Donovan reported this:
Sherman family investigators hand over earring and other evidence collected at murdered billionaires’ home to Toronto police | The Star
“That handover comes several weeks after police warned the Sherman family’s lawyer they would seek a judicial warrant if potential evidence was not immediately handed over, sources close to the case have told the Star.

An earring discovered in the driveway has also being turned over by the private team....”

Ideas on BS's 'sketchy' investments:
***Some guys collect cars, coins, signs, ceramic elephants, maybe BS just collected odd investments.
***I have heard about some practices in the pharma industry might be extra-legal so to speak. Would it be possible to launder proceeds from some activities frowned upon by LE, through sketchy investments and bankruptcies?
***There are five countries the USA has trade embargoes on. These countries need medicines, probably good business available. US prescription patents would not be recognised or enforced in those countries. Was it possible somebody was copying those patented medicines, selling them in embargoed countries and upsetting the patent holders? You can bet that would upset a number of people. Were any other countries angry with BS?

It’s the unfortunate way Warmington sometimes leaves out the word ‘retired’ before Retired Det. Martin Woodhouse’s name. Woodhouse is on Klatt’s team. They didn’t turn the earring over to TPS, it seems.

Weird that the media was right there and was part of the story.

That right there, to me, counteracts the notion expressed here, that B was so infuriated with H for wanting to waste all that money buying an even larger house at this stage in their lives, that he lost his cool and murdered his wife over it.

While the man knew the value of money and didn't go around showing off with his, or keeping up with the other billionaire-Joneses, or wasting it just for the sake of buying something newer, he picked and chose what he felt like spending money on. And after forty-some-odd years of marriage, I'm sure he had figured out that H gets to choose the things about the household, even if meant spending money.

It doesn't seem like B was much of a guy to become sentimentally attached to a house, and in reality, the cost of this new house was just a drop in the bucket for him. He spent his time at the office while H did whatever she wanted and looked after the homestead part of things. They had hired staff to provide for any services the couple required. They had the ability to hire whatever additional staff might be needed if future needs demanded more services.

Oh thanks very much for clarifying! That at least settles one of the many mysteries associated with this case.

To be fair, in his text Warmington does refer to Woodhouse as "former Toronto Police Detective Martin Woodhouse". The word "former" was left out of the photo blurb which may not be his fault.

Imo in the first article, FD seems to be willing to share much more info than an uninformed observer would share ( honey was killed in front of Barry; the killers were already in the house). This level of detail is suspicious imo.

Oddly, KW made a similar comment in his first interview with DM. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?

“Winter reflected: 'Either way he had a terrible end. He either killed his wife and hung himself or he was targeted and Honey was punched out in front of him and his last moments must have been horrific...”

This was FDs first comment to the media? I don’t notice anything suspicious whatsoever. Aside from the Sherman children, he was one of the first to very adamantly disgree with the m/s media rumours.

WARMINGTON: Questions haunt family and friends of Barry and Honey Sherman

“I think it’s a murder,” said Frank D’Angelo.......

.....“He was a lion. He had the heart of a lion and he had the courage of a lion,” said D’Angelo. “There is no way this guy would commit suicide. There is no way.”

And, he says, Barry Sherman could and would never hurt Honey.

“Absolutely, unequivocally, not,” said D’Angelo. “He was in awe of her. I think Honey’s biggest fan in the world was Barry Sherman.”......

....”I believe the police will go, first and foremost, to see who had motive,” he said.......

.....“Barry’s biggest thing was to see people succeed. He loved success,” he said.

“He was like a brother to me. We talked from the soul to each other … we trusted each other. I trusted him with my life and he trusted me big time. It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t able to be there for him with this bad, evil, dark door that opened up and ended his life.”

And D’Angelo said this was his biggest fear.

“In fact, I used to give him s— that he would just get in his car from Apotex and everybody knew who he was … Barry wasn’t afraid.”.....

.....“In the 20 years I knew Dr. Sherman, I have never spoken to him where he was depressed,” said D’Angelo. “He was the kindest human being in the world. He loved people. He loved his family. That’s why this scenario of suicide is totally ridiculous.”

Like their children, D’Angelo believes the Shermans were murdered and Toronto Police “are going to get to the bottom of it.”......

I am an "uninformed observer" like FD and KW claim to be. If I was asked my opinion back then, I would also say that I think Honey was likely killed in front of of Barry . These murders reeked of revenge imo. I don't see anything suspicious in thinking this.

An earring or two earrings or an earring in two parts?

She would have had all rights on her side with that, but nevertheless she for example did question KW about the "borrowed" money (or monthly appanage) in an unpleasant way, as he told us. We don't know, if she asked others of her husband's minions too. She cared for the money, seemingly.

IIRC the rest of the story, Kerry stated he was agreeable to arranging for her murder with Barry, because Honey was “not nice” to him as she questioned him about what he was doing with the money. Kerry claimed he was “messed up” at the time, apparently a cocaine addict associating with “quasi-criminals” known to be willing to murder people. But the question he posed remains unanswered.....where did all the money go, the promissory note he signed for 8 million still owed to Barry, all up his nose? That’s hard to believe.

Kerry appears totally oblivious to the possibility that at the time, 20 and more years ago, the Shermans were not adversaries and they were genuinely attempting to help him get his life together.

As he now admits his “messed up” past life, in his reflections looking back, why does he still perceive Honey was “not nice” if she had the ability to recognize that he was on a downward spiral?

His stories lack objectivity and credibility IMO.
