• Bones don't have scars or tats, and there may or may not be enough tissue for DNA extraction. It is quite possible they won't succeed in identifying all of the remains, which would be truly terrible for those left wondering, just as in the Pickton case.

Nuclear DNA is harder to get from skeletal remains, but they will go over the remains with hope of finding enough to get a sample. If they can’t get a sample from recovered tissue, etc., they can pull mitochondrial DNA from the bones. It offers a less than perfect match in comparison to the nuclear counterpart, but it would be enough for proof of death and identity in this case. In Andrew’s case he had 2 prior knee replacements and I strongly feel that is how they identified him as quickly as they did. Someone had speculated that as they have DNA samples for Andrew to compare to, that if they found something that could provide a DNA match they could have made it a priority. However, everything I have seen thus far (updates from LE) has been talk that DNA ID would take months, which makes me think Andrew was positively ID’d by other means.

Soon after police provided an update on their investigation into alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur, his son, Todd, made an appearance at an Oshawa courthouse on unrelated charges in a different case.

McArthur’s 37-year-old son, and youngest of two children, was flanked by two women who refused to identify themselves to reporters.

“We’ve been through enough. We’re also victims,” Todd McArthur said outside the courtroom.

[h=1]Accused serial killer Bruce McArthur did landscaping at another property near where remains found[/h]
[h=3]Former resident says McArthur installed big plastic planters alongside apartment building[/h] By Nicole Brockbank, CBC News Posted: Feb 10, 2018
Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur did landscaping work at a building down the road from the property where police recovered the remains of at least six people, according to two former tenants.

"He would work on the lawn, take care of flowers, planters, and stuff like that," said Frederic Bisson, who lived in an apartment building on Mallory Crescent in Toronto's Leaside neighbourhood a decade ago. "I'm really shocked … he was really calm and quiet."

The current victim count includes 2 white people among 5 named. As another "queer person of color", my only response to above paragraph is.... WTF?!

We'll have to see what else emerges but from what I understand, McArthur had a type at least when it came to dating. His current boyfriend is/ was another younger brown man, and his FB friends list was full of seemingly gay Muslim men, before it was removed by police. I wish I had scoured it but I think he had a fetish and I wouldn't be surprised if among recent victims, men of colour dominate :(

I'd like to thank whoever upthread shared this Daily Mail article because it proves a point so many people have been arguing with me about. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...r-banned-citys-gay-village.html#ixzz56MtMoUaB

The house was sold in 2000 with records indicating that McArthur was still married at the time but by then he had already embarked on a romantic relationship with now missing man, Skandaraj Navaratnam whom he met in 1999.The pair continued a relationship until 2008 and Navaratnam was reported missing in 2010.

If this is true, that Skanda and BM were in a relationship until 2008 - I bring back what I said earlier. How thoroughly did they investigate Skanda's disappearance during Project Houston? Did they even investigate BM at all at that time - a recent ex who had proven himself to be violent????? Various people have said he was an ex from years earlier - clearly not! 2 years, and they were still both hanging in the Village. If it's true that Skanda and BM were together until 2008 I think this proves that at least Skanda's disappearance was never investigated properly. jmo. Idsinga and team are doing a fantastic job now but it didn't have to come to this. It really did not.

This, and I mean, the article is from the perspective and experience of a queer POC. Folks should probably just read, listen, and not question or doubt this individual. JMO.

If "seemingly gay Muslim men" were a target of BM, perhaps it was because he knew they would not be grouped with those missing from the gay village because they might have led double lives and were therefore unlikely to be investigated with the others missing from the area.

Hope nobody gets mad, but regarding P.O.C., this pic of BM comes to mind! imo.

This very recent news regarding a missing homeless man in Ontario had me wondering if there was any connection to BM?

Has anyone given any thought to BM's son having a hand in some of these "events". Only reason I ask is, "paraphilia" often has additional paraphilias. Some quite disturbing, which could be tied to BM's activities.
Some evidence suggests there are DNA markers or genetic markers to possibly be inherited? Or learned?
Could BM have a similar paraphilia that was manifested in a different way than son?
I'm sure the TPS psychiatric specialists are looking at this line of thought??

What a horrific murder case. I would never have thought such evil would ever be hiding in plain sight so close to home. I guess I’m naive, but I truly think of Toronto as a very safe city. I cannot imagine how the families and friends of the victims are coping. My condolences to all affected by BS’s alleged crimes. It’s all so tragic and heartbreaking.

All MOO.

I think everything is a combination of nature and nurture. Some genetic traits, and some environmental traits. They could both have a genetic makeup that has been streamed in different behaviours.

I'm not of the belief, at this point, that his son had any part in his crimes.

[h=1]BRUCE McARTHUR: Does suspected serial killer embody 'banality of evil?'[/h] Brad Hunter

Published: February 10, 2018
Bruce McArthur exudes the mundane aura of a taupe paint job in a suburban living room.

The type of guy you run into at Walmart, Canadian Tire or a greasy spoon on Saturday morning.

A chubby, 66-year-old landscaper who is a father, brother, a grandfather — and quite possibly one of the worst serial killers this country has ever seen.

Former cop Michael Arntfield, a criminologist and professor at Western University, has an expertise in cold cases and serial killers.

“It’s widely documented that an individual, at that time in a rural area… anything other than heteronormative behaviour would be considered an aberration,” Arntfield told the Toronto Sun.

“He would have felt immense pressure to conform.”

Like many other gay men of his generation, McArthur likely waged an internal battle with his natural inclinations, Arntfield says.

At that time, often the only salvation for a closeted young gay man in podunkville was the priesthood. Or a sham marriage.
“Many serial killers are highly mobile, like salesmen and truck drivers, it would be a perfect opportunity, particularly if his territory was Northern Ontario where there are lots of places to hide bodies,” Arntfield says.

Thank God Bruce McArthur is locked up and his killing spree is over. I am shocked at the number of men he killed. He'll likely be segregated from the other male prisoners. My condolences to those affected by his crimes. Too bad his next court appearance is on Valentine's Day.
I doubt Bruce McArthur can afford legal fees, so was Edward Royle appointed by the Courts or did he volunteer to represent BM?
No death penalty in Canada so he'll spend the rest of his life behind bars if he doesn't kill himself which I think he will when he gets a chance.

McArthur was remanded in custody and ordered to appear again, by video, on Feb. 14, a date already set at his last appearance.

Toronto lawyers say that McArthur managed to secure one of the best firms in the country to represent him. Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur is being represented by the firm of Edward Royle, a renowned criminal lawyer known for his remarkable memory and his “fearless” advocacy for his clients.

A grim-faced McArthur made a brief appearance at the College Park courthouse Monday morning, the day police revealed McArthur was charged with three additional counts of first-degree murder.

"I do not believe there is malicious intent by Toronto Police," writes Jaime Watt, but a vulnerable community, that has been targeted by a serial killer, desperately needs protection.
Today, it is difficult for many to truly understand the symbolic importance of the Gay Village. Church and Wellesley seems more like a secondary traffic artery, spattered with no-name pharmacies, second-rate fast-food restaurants and unassuming bars — at least from the outside.

But the truth is that this corner has been a home to thousands of Canadians.

It can be profoundly isolating to be a member of the LGBTQ community. To grow up understanding oneself to be “different” is an experience that many of us struggle to shake even well into adulthood.

Bruce McArthur has spent the majority of his adult life living a lie.

When he was 48-years-old in 1999, the travelling sock salesman emerged like a phoenix from the shackles of his suburban married life in Oshawa.

And escaped the rural, pressed down background he had grown up in.

The accused serial killer announced to his family he was gay — and he was leaving.

Toronto — with its robust LGBTQ community — was a natural next stop.

Now, the 66-year-old is accused of the brutal murders of five gay men who had been reported missing. He called himself a landscaper, cops are calling him a serial killer.
Bruce McArthur allegedly wore two masks for the world: One was the landscaper beloved by his elderly clients, pushing cupcakes on neighbours, the other a monster lurking in the shadows.

A Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde emerging from the ether of modern Toronto.
The rotund former Agincourt Mall Santa and Kinsman had been sex partners.

In fact, it seems as though rough sex was McArthur’s favourite hobby. He frequently trolled online dating sites — including silverdaddies.com — looking for action, particularly with submissives.

“One odd thing was that he had mentioned that he had met this guy in Italy, and I guess he was talking about the date he was on and he said, ‘Oh, he liked it really rough.'”

I wonder if the OPP are looking to see this man in Italy is still alive.

Was BM a world traveller? Is it true he ever visited Italy? Which region did he visit?

Did he work as a landscaper in Italy? I can't imagine checking planters over there.
