Guilty pleas expected today in Nova Scotia chained-teen case ..

A man accused of chaining up a teen and sexually assaulting him last fall is expected to enter guilty pleas in a Bridgewater, N.S., courtroom this morning.

The lawyer for David James Leblanc says they have reached an agreement with the Crown. Mike Taylor said his client will plead guilty to some charges of forcible confinement, sexual assault and *advertiser censored*.

"He wants to just accept his responsibility and move on," Taylor said. "He's certainly got a lot of evidence against him, he knows that he's committed these offences and he doesn't want to put anyone else through any more formalities than he's already done."

[quote"When he was still in captivity, he was leaving evidence all over the place. He was making and taking mental notes all the time because he knew that he was going to get out and he wanted the proof that he was there to be indisputable," she told reporters outside the courtroom on Thursday.

"He's coming to grips, and trying to live a normal life and to put it past him. He just wants to move on, I think, and just forget about this whole ordeal, as difficult as it is. It's just going to take time."

I sincerely hope that this young man can deal with his ordeal and has a chance at a productive happy life.

And to think that the prosecution is only asking for an 8 year sentence for kidnapping, confining and raping a teenager, keeping in mind that they didn't let the kid go, he escaped. I presume it is part of a plea deal and saves the teen from having to endure a public trial. Still....it irks me so much! :banghead:

Chained Nova Scotia teen’s harrowing tale of sex assaults
LeBlanc will be sentenced in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Bridgewater this afternoon. Lawyers have jointly recommended a term of 11 years minus the 258 days he's already served.

I'm not sure 11 years is enough for this. That lets him be paroled in a couple of years to do this again.

He's getting 11 years. Disgusting. sigh.

BRIDGEWATER, N.S.—A 16-year-old boy who was chained inside a Nova Scotia cabin where he was repeatedly raped for a week still suffers the physical and emotional wounds from the horror, his mother said Friday as his tormentor was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
David James LeBlanc, 48, sat impassively in court as the mother glared at him while reading from two victim impact statements, one from herself and one on behalf of her son.
“You have robbed me of my son . . . and made a hole in my heart,” she said. “You have no idea what it is like to look on the face of my son . . . and see nothing but a shell of his former self.”

Her cheeks reddened as she told Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Bridgewater how her son can no longer sleep, suffers anxiety attacks and is fearful every time a door closes on him.
The mother said her son’s hand is damaged and his wrists are scarred from being chained to a room that was surrounded by pornographic photos.
He no longer feels safe at night, and carries mace in fear of another abduction, she said.
“Let my son be the last victim ever,” she said, pleading with the Crown to apply to have LeBlanc declared a dangerous offender.

An agreed statement of facts says LeBlanc offered the boy a painting job and drove him in a van from Halifax to Lunenburg County on the pretext of picking up painting supplies.
Instead, the boy was taken to a bedroom inside a cabin in Upper Chelsea, about 130 kilometres southwest of Halifax, where his clothes were taken and he was repeatedly sexually assaulted, the statement says.
During his captivity, the boy was “secured naked by chains attached to his wrists and ankles and in turn to bolts in both the floor and ceiling of a bedroom.”

LeBlanc pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping, forcible confinement, sexual assault, uttering threats and breach of conditions. He also pleaded guilty to making and distributing child *advertiser censored* as well as sexual interference in a separate case involving two boys, aged 5 and 2.
Coughlan sentenced him on both matters. LeBlanc was given credit for 258 days he has served in custody prior to his trial, meaning he has about 10 years, 3 1/2 months left on his sentence.

LeBlanc’s separate crimes involving the younger boys were discovered when images were uploaded to an American *advertiser censored* website, the statement of facts says.
Investigators tracked 17 images of the boys to LeBlanc’s home in the Halifax suburb of Dartmouth. LeBlanc later admitted he took pictures of the young boys during the summer of 2010 near Liverpool, N.S., while they were changing at a beach, the statement of facts says.
LeBlanc was awaiting trial for those crimes when he abducted the teenager last September and held him against his will for seven days, court heard

Disgusting.

They left him naked and standing spread-eagled, his wrists and ankles chained to bolts in the ceiling and floor, for three days.

The 16-year-old boy said his hands turned blue, but David James LeBlanc and Wayne Alan Cunningham would not loosen the chains. They brought him a bucket to urinate in. The second night, the teen fell asleep standing up.

They sexually abused him every day.

The poor kid has permanent scars on his wrists. I hope the emotional scars will fade over time.

11 years....too short to "take" someone else's life for your "pleasure".

That's far too light a sentence for what they did to that boy. And I'm guessing if he hadn't escaped they would have killed him.

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. -- A Halifax man charged with sexual assault in the case of a teenage boy who was chained inside a Nova Scotia cabin has been committed to stand trial.

John Leonard MacKean, who is also charged with communicating for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18, had a preliminary inquiry Thursday where the boy testified for about 40 minutes.

The teen wiped away tears several times as he answered questions from the Crown and defence. Evidence presented during the hearing is subject to a publication ban ...

My heart aches for this young victim. He should never have had to see the faces of these pieces of #@! again.

If he's convicted, I hope they take into account when sentencing that he made that boy go through the ordeal of giving evidence. And the other one didn't get a long enough sentence either.
