As recently as yesterday, critics were lined up suggesting that the RCMP wouldn’t disclose cause of death. If there’s a post-autopsy press conference tomorrow, its main apparent purpose is to explain the deaths.

If McLeod and Schmegelsky died via one or two guns, it will be interesting to see whether the RCMP say the type of gun(s) (rifle/shotgun) and caliber or gauge.

In the event of one gun being used, I imagine that the RCMP may have an opinion on whether it was murder/suicide or suicide/suicide.

Yeah, they’ll probably be able to tell if it was murder/suicide, or suicide/suicide.

Either way, I have little doubt that both died willingly.

A note about BS's eye-colour changing:

My Dad had blue eyes into his teens and then they turned brown. (He also had blonde hair until then as well, then it turned almost black.) Eye colour change typically happens much earlier:

Your Blue Eyes Aren’t Really Blue

however:

"Most individuals achieve stable eye color by 6 years of age. However, a subpopulation of 10% to 15% of white subjects have changes in eye color through-out adolescence and adulthood..."

Eye Color Changes Past Early Childhood

Iirc when dad said in text,,,how do I get it to you (the cologne) BS said send me a pic. I had the screen shot on my iPad but since have deleted it. I will try to find the text message.
Thank you! I have an archive of links about this case saved as an email draft that I am seriously going to have to catalogue/index somehow better. So much material now, it's a madhouse trying to locate anything in there!

That's interesting! It does seem like Bryer's eyes look blue in all the old photographs but less so now. I had thought Kam looked like he maybe had green or light brown eyes from the initial photos--the lighting made it hard to tell--so I was surprised when I saw some relatively recent-ish picture in natural sunlight (last year's graduation picture) that revealed he had very blue eyes.

@1987 imo, i would expect to see some trace amounts of white fibers blown around but thats about it, once fiberglass gets burning its extremely hard to extinguish, and would really only leave a few stains where the last of the melted fiberglass resin pooled up and burned away

@gigitty if you don't think that the damage to the truck is from the fire, what do you think happened to the truck to cause the damage to the roof and frame? Is it possible that the suspects rolled it?

There is nothing that I know that would indicate it being the case at all, but just as an aside, tinted contact lenses can make your eyes whatever color you wish them to be.

No. LD's cousin is from Calgary, Airdrie, actually.

BS had family in Alberta, according to his dad.

The great uncle (not uncle, my error) lives in the PA area.
Cousins in Red Deer, as I recall.

That's very true!

I don't believe BS replied to that message. AS confirms in his 60 Minutes interview that his last text from BS was him telling AS he was leaving for trip north. That's also my recollection of screen shot of texts. MOO

ETA: add text image

Did he ask for a pic? That must have been in a text message I haven't seen. What I have seen are messenger messages from FB:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/northern-bc-killings-manitoba-1.5224278

Once Bryer tells his dad he's going to be leaving, it's complete radio silence from him. You can always tell if someone has read a message in Messenger, and it looks like he never checked or viewed anything else his dad sent him. His dad does ask for pictures from their trip but that also garners no response.

What do the blue check marks next to the Dads replies mean?

Further on the above, if it was murder/suicide the RCMP will likely have an opinion on which of them committed the murder.

The RCMP have good reason to make that determination. Murder is a crime, and consent is not a defence, meaning that one of them would have committed a fourth murder. For that same reason, the RCMP will have to be quite sure of their ground if they venture this far. There may be some careful wording.

This TED talk by Dylan Kleibold's (Columbine shooter) mother is fascinating. Not only from the POV of the mother of a killer, but she has done a lot of soul searching and research on why these things happen and the psychology behind them. Well worth the 15 minutes to get inside the minds of suicidal murderers and the fallout for their families. My son was a Columbine shooter. This is my story

You can't have it both ways!

RCMP may very well have provided the information to the investigative reporter but would not go on record.

I believe they were confident in their source to report it just as they reported Lucas and Chynna shot without confirmation from RCMP.

MOO

Meh. I think there is about a 0% probability that this information was provided by the RCMP to the reporter. There is absolutely no way that happened. On the other hand, the "liasons" might have caught wind of this. Or maybe it's public record somewhere, for all I know. But the RCMP is extremely good at keeping information away from the media. There's no way they revealed this information to a reporter.

It means they were unviewed. If Bryer had read them, it would show a small version of his profile pic there. And if you press on that, you can see the date and time it was viewed if it was recent--otherwise, it just says seen. :) That's why I noted that Bryer had obviously not even read anything his dad sent him after that point.
