Maybe LE saw scavenger birds in the area where the bodies were found.

RCMP used surveillance and helicopters to zero in on the mangled boat (13 km from car) and personal belongings 4km (2.2 miles) upstream from the boat.

No scavenger birds, no sleeping bags.
Mangled boat.
Personal belongings.
Bodies with guns.
