Yes, good point, they chose who they perceived as vulnerable. Tourists, a young couple in a van with Alberta licence plates stopped on the side of road and a single older man who, by appearance, looked totally harmless.

And just a fleeting thought....were these the only people targeted? Because one reason for the boys to burn the truck and camper might be it was identifiable in one or more other failed robbery attempts. As much as we sometimes like to think potential witnesses all tell their stories to the media, that’s simply not true. Locals in northern areas know LE are often many hours away. Legal gun ownership is very common to not only hunt but as a protection. Calling fish and wildlife is not an option if cornered by a cougar.

If a potential victim scared a couple young hoodlums off it might not have gotten reported as a possible connection until after the other homicides came to light. But it could account for the two becoming paranoid and deciding to torch the vehicle. JMO

they might have selected the victims because they were asleep.

Just a thought on the apparently still unknown male seen talking to Lucas and Chynna around 11:30 in a potentially confrontational manner..... What are the chances that some other unrelated person would have gotten into a confrontation or hostile interaction with those two, left, and then some other real killer(s) showed up later and murdered them. What a nightmare either way for Lucas and Chynna, if they had been harassed once before by someone else before being murdered by another or not... but I think it's unlikely that there was some "other" person seen being unfriendly or confrontational instead of just one of the suspects.

No other suspects based on RCMP silence about that dark bearded "person of interest" and pre-announcement of charges being prepared against BS/KML for the death of the couple.

I’m sure that I could pack one of my shotguns in a soft bag in a way that no-one would know that it was there. I can do it with a Gitzo tripod that opens to 165cm/5.5’, so a gun wouldn’t be hard.

In reality, I keep my shotguns in well-built metal cases with good locks, but I’m not trying to hide what I’m carrying :)
i guess i’m wondering specifically if you could carry an intact shotgun (no sawed off ) in a standard backpack. i googled and it said average shotguns are 48 inches long so that seems very long to fit in a backpack.

Why don't you head up there? Seems you've got it all worked out from your vast experience...watching Manhunt on TV.

We, on the other hand, are so grateful to our sisters & brothers who are risking their lives to try to capture these dangerous criminals.

Wow. Oak Bay police sound bitchy and unprofessional. There are ways to interact with the public when you disagree with them, and this isn't it.

Their red truck was burnt and the RAV4 was taken from Prof. Dyck near Stikine River, 50km south of Dease. So they probably took the southern route to Fort St. John and then into Alberta.
Yes, I initially assumed that as well, but I don’t think we have anything to confirm which route they took. Distance and time are similar either way and they could’ve turned around back to northern route after burning the truck. However, given time of Cold Lake sighting, she would have had to have gone missing very early July 21 in Grand Prairie. Not impossible without knowing what time she was last seen, but unlikely.

Not a 12 or 20 gauge in an ordinary backpack. There are some rifles, which is more likely what they have, that might fit OK, but my knowledge of rifles is limited.

Wow, even Twitter wars over this.

As an aside, Mantracker (which is the show that was being referred to) was a pretty good show about tracking techniques, and I've wondered if our perps watched it to help cover their trails a bit. I assume they didn't show all their tricks in the show since the original host also worked with police at times.
I can see how a horse will protect the rider from two suspects with an unknown number of guns who have already killed 3 people.

The person behind this LE twitter is my hero, lol

Finally, sorry it took me so long. In my searching, pretty sure I know the address. Maybe in bad taste for me to share, so I'll just say def looks like money

and yeah you were right, sproat

"The blue sky and lush greenery surrounding the chalet-style home across the street from beautiful Sproat Lake....

It’s the home of 19-year-old Kam McLeod, who with his friend, 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky, is the subject of a manhunt that has now moved to remote northeastern Manitoba, almost 3,000 kilometres from where the bodies of two tourists were found on July 15 that sparked a Canada-wide search.

Set in an idyllic, rural and recreational setting, Sproat Lake is a 20-minute drive from central Port Alberni."

Port Alberni rocked by national manhunt for local teens after first believing the pair was lost in the bush

That is a beautiful house! KM will likely hate himself if he ends up sitting in prison year upon year. Didn't these boys think long and hard before deciding to start killing people? I guess they either thought they would never be captured or they're willing to go out in a shoot out, dead before age 2o. I want to know what these dummies were thinking.

Can someone please clarify—where was the bearded man seen with Lucas and Chynna? Was it on the side of the highway? And if so, did the person who saw this note any other vehicle pulled over? The bearded man would have been driving something.

would depend on the backpack but bit of a stretch
that said;
A. they could have handguns for all we know
B. could have sawed off a long gun with a swiss army knife saw and a few hours in the car. Barrel trickier but also possible, they've had alot of time

LE now leaning towards the suspects may have "inadvertently been given assistance to leave the area by someone who was not aware of who they were." Very plausible after listening to people of the area describe the harsh conditions out in the bush. If someone picked them up, hopefully that person isn't dead now!

With that article it's probably a 10 second search to pull up the exact address with a directory listing. Quality media again.

I hesitate to post this article because I'm not sure it's the current information even though it says posted only 2 hrs. ago.

Canadian authorities will begin door-to-door canvassing in search for murder suspects

"The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will begin knocking on every door in a small town in rural northern Manitoba in hopes of generating tips in the search for two teens wanted in the killings of a road-tripping couple and university teacher."

"Police will canvass in Gillam and Fox Lake Cree Nation over the next 72 hours, Cpl. Julie Courchaine, the RCMP Manitoba spokeswoman, said Friday at a press conference."

I believe it is current as RCMP tweeted the message Friday afternoon:

Over the next 72 hours, investigators will conduct door-to-door canvases in the Town of Gillam & Fox Lake Cree Nation, in hopes of generating new tips & information. #rcmpmb
