So sad - my heart aches for this young beautiful girls family and friends. A WS member posted on another thread about this case or I wouldn't have know about it. Thank you to the member who posted. (I went back to look for your username, but I couldn't find your post - maybe your post was removed). Anyhow, thanks again for mentioning it. I'm going to read from the beginning of the thread later tonight.

Oh No!! Devastating news.

Why is it that even when the outcome is what you expected it is still devastating when it is confirmed? I can't imagine how hard this must be affecting Makayla's family and friends.

Rest in peace Kayla.

"Believed to be", so it's not confirmed yet?

Not that it matters, anyway. It's still a young life cut short. And when LE has a hunch like this it's usually a well-informed one.

Whatever happened to you Makayla, I'm sorry.

Poor little girl. Tragic case. Expected but still horrifying.
I will await a murder charge.

Does anyone know when the picture of Kayla in the short red wig first came out? I thought it was in one of the updates and it's not on her newest FB.

She didn't look healthy there - bags under her eyes, sunken cheeks, pursed lips. Maybe it's the lighting but just an older looking shot than 16.

ETA: Hmmm it's not there now.

Long video about the case here, including clips of the previous searches and of Makayla singing last summer. At 3:05 or so the reporter asks tight-lipped LE about SB. "Are you continuing to talk with him or was that a one time deal?". The very controlled response was, "He is part of the investigation." Clearly they have their sights on SB, as they have all along.

I'm desperately hoping for quick justice for Makayla....a lovely, young, free-spirited girl who wasn't dealt the best hand in life and was taken advantage of. Who knows who she could have become. Who knows who else she could have touched.

rbbm.
“She didn’t deserve it at all and I really hope that whoever did this pays,” says friend Amber Crossen. “This community is absolutely destroyed,” McKee said. “Destroyed. She’s 16 years old and it’s just there are so many more 16 year old girls out there.”
“It’s not fair. It’s not fair,” Makayla’s friend April Schneider said.
Schneider is organizing a vigil for 3 p.m. on May 27 at Nanaimo’s Maffeo Sutton Park.

“I hope everybody will show up with some flowers, floating candles,” Schneider said.

Hoping for justice soon for Makayla. Is it unusual for LE not to say where the body was found? I feel like they are not saying because she may have been found in the lot next to SB's property?

RCMP seem to release less and less information in most cases these days. They claim it's for privacy concerns...but it also tends to fuel speculation in the community.
In this case they might be playing their cards close to their chest...knowing that only certain people would know the location.

I don't think it was somewhere well known or everyone would have seen an obvious police and forensic team presence.
Maybe she was found in the water...and there was no crime scene to process.
I'm sure her family and friends know more then we do.

RIP Kayla.
