She breaks down in tears.

"Jessica's death was so unnecessary, and we can never accept it."

The Globe and Mail, Christine Blatchford on MEH:

"(There has never been a suggestion Ms. Harriman had any idea what her husband was up to, though the evidence presented in court makes it clear she was astonishingly uncurious – Col. Williams kept well hidden his treasured videos and pictures, but left piles of stolen underwear and sex toys in ordinary boxes and bags all over the basement and spare room of their Ottawa house.)"

Bold by me.

Perhaps the relationship was built on mutual trust and understanding," you be my beard and I'll be yours, while Rosebud can be our sweet pretend baby."

The first-sex assault victim, who can't be named:

"I apologise for having traumatized you the way I did. No doubt you're left a bit safer now that I've been caught."/]

WARNING:
- > what I'm about to say is NOT NICE, and if you are the victim of this monster, or a friend or family member of hers, then PLEASE be warned that the words I'm about to write are my sincerest fears / concerns! I'm sure I"m not the only one to have thought what I"m about to post -- but it could be very upsetting to read!!

POST BELOW COULD BE UPSETTING:

I"m wondering what the note means? Is it possible that he had thoughts / fantasies of returning to this victim again? perhaps of another round with her, or of mudering her in a subsequent attack? I wonder what he means when he says she is a bit safer now that he had been caught?!

Amber Hildebrandt reports:

"Williams' head is still up as Jessica's aunt comes up. She's already crying, overcome by emotion. 'This horrible crime has changed our lives...drastically,' she opens. She says they will all miss Jessica terribly and that their family will never be the same. 'Our family is scarred for lfe ... he has taken Jess from us forever and she is irreplaceable,' she continues. She claims that what he did will haunt them all for the rest of their lives. 'This has been a living hell for months, watching my sister and my nephew TRY to take one day at a time and they will continue to do so for years,' she says. 'Not only are we traumatized from losing death, we have the horrible mental images of what she was put through.'"

"2:41: TorontoStar: Col. Russell Williams' apology letter to his second sexual assault victim, Laurie Massicotte, who has allowed her identity to be made public:

Laurie,
I am sorry for having hurt you the way I did. I really hope that the discussion we had has helped you turn your life around a bit.You seem like a bright woman, who could do do much better for herself. I do hope that you find a way to succeed.""

From: http://www.thestar.com/news/article/876913

A sexual assault, judgment and a lecture, all from the same person. I believe this is what's called a non-apology.

3:01 smithjoanna: "Each time I see him, it's like I'm being kicked in the stomach," aunt says of seeing face of RW on TV, in newspaper.

3:02 smithjoanna: "She should never have had to die that way," says aunt. "She was at home where she thought she was safe."

3:03 smithjoanna: Aunt says Jessica was overcome by his power, strength, cunning and years of specialized training.

3:04 smithjoanna: Many of the family members sitting in courtroom are weeping, bringing tissues to their eyes.

3:04 RobsonDan: Tears are filling the overflow room.

Amber Hildebrandt reports:

"Another one of Lloyd's aunts speaks now. She says she has written and rewritten her statement and calls it a 'difficult and painful' process. She calls this a 'living nightmare.'

She says 'with two phone calls and six words, my life changed drastically.' The first call was that Lloyd was missing and the second call was that she was dead.

The aunt says she was alone when she received the call police were on their way to find Lloyd's body. 'I cried, I shook and all I wanted to do was scream,' she says.

'Not one of us will ever be the same again.'"

She goes on to say that driving on Hwy 37 with her son and daughter and seeing the police command centre by Lloyd's house was overwhelming. 'How do you explain to your 80-year-old mother that her granddaughter just disappeared in the middle of the night?,' she asks.

She says seeing Lloyd's mother, Roxanne, her sister, during this time was incredibly difficult. 'How do you give comfort when we all needed comfort?,' she says."

"The statements include many of the same questions, she continues, 'Why did her attacker choose her? Why didn't he let her live? What if she had a security system or a dog to protect her? What if? What if? What if?'" :(

I can't remember if it was the first or second assault victim, but he did return to her house more than once to steal underwear. Fortunately, she was not home at the time. We'll never know if he intended to target previous victims again for more serious offences, but of course it's possible. :(

EDIT: Found it.

Two times in the week after the sexual assault, he broke into the victim’s home and presumably stole more “trophies.”

'Each time I see him, it's like being kicked in the stomach.

It actually makes me nauseous,' she comments on the shock of suddenly seeing his picture when she least expects it.

'I would've done everything to save her ... It is possible to have your heart ache, to feel pain in your chest.'

'She should never have died this way. She was at home where she thought she was safe,' she says. 'After every thing he did to her, all the suffering pain, humiliation he caused her, he ended her life and then he dumped Jessica on the side of the road like a bag of trash," she continues, stressing each word.

'I'm here today for Jessica. She deserves no less, she states angrily.

She finishes with, 'We love you Jessica. We miss you every day and you will live in our hearts forever.'"
