Who is Katie Ballantyne? There is a Sylvia Ballantyne found 7 July 2003 - Katie does not show up as a first name on anyone mentioned to date.

One and the same, Woodland ... her full name is Katie Sylvia Ballantyne.

Err..sorry silly billy, but I have two cousins by the same name..where are you finding this?

ETA:I know that one of them is very against social media...

I've just always known her full name as being Katie Sylvia Ballantyne, but here's MSM on it:

Katie Sylvia Ballantyne was a 40-year-old mother of four when a friend reported her missing to the Edmonton Police Service on May 5, 2003. A farmer found Ballantyne’s remains in a field near Leduc, Alberta on July 7, 2003. The KARE unit, an RCMP entity that investigates files of murdered or missing vulnerable persons in Alberta, is handling the homicide. Family members say they last met with investigators in 2013, but learned no new details.

This suggests cooperation, no?

Imo, considering that LE suspected Svelka of being responsible for Katie, Delores and Corrie then Amber's location would suggest cooperation because of proximity in general knowledge of the area. However, the fact of her location being basically from one end of the quarter section to the other crosswise away from Delores and Corrie may have shifted LE's suspicions. Finding a body imo, is similar to finding a needle in a haystack and yet, here we have 3 all bunched together. What are the odds without common knowledge or all being victims of the same SK?

For reference here is another person convicted of 1 murder only.

Richard Douglas b c 1950 convicted in the murder of Ginger Lee Bellerose 26. She was found bludgeoned on 25 April 2001 in the condemned International Hotel within Edmonton city limits. RD was the caretaker of that building and reported finding her. He was charged in Nov 2003 and convicted on 15 Oct 2005 through a DNA match.

Deanna Marie Bellerose 29 was a sister to Ginger - Deanna was last seen 9 Sep 2002 in Edmonton, found 16 May 2012 near Morinville, AB, about a 30 minute drive north of Edmonton.

Another reference on an apparent one of a kind murder in Edmonton.

Chantel Brittany Robertson 20 - last seen 28 June 2008 Edmonton. She was brought to the home of -

Todd Barrett 24, born c 1984

by a driver for the escort service. Todd paid Chantel the escort fee he contracted for then changed his mind after the fact as he 'realized' he need that money for his rent. He strangled Chantel and buried her in the backyard he shared with at least 2 others. When the driver came to pick Chantel up, Barrett said she had already left.

One might be tempted to call Todd Barrett stupid or asinine, but imo that would be an insult to stupid and asinine people.

Anyway, LE found Chantel buried in the backyard 2 days later on 30 June 2008.

Barrett pled guilty in May 2009.

http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=01f08aab-f019-498e-bd7f-0b5a403f3a21

Was Todd ever stupid and asinine before June 2008?

We go from Brianna Torvalson Feb 2008 to Amber Tuccaro August 2010.

There was speculation in Brianna's case regarding location and timing whereas the beginning of Svelka's trial was concerned.

http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/story.html?id=c2441d27-1252-4d9c-8cc3-c0aff4e9efd0

http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=7ff88dac-963a-4b16-9796-f57e86ef81ca

In light of this, I would tend to put more faith in Svelka's "shhh" factor. I would also wonder as to any historical relevance as to the Ardrossan area whereby placement would be concerned.
Area of Twnshp Rd. 534 and Range Road 220.

Were there any victim's found between 2008 and 2012, when Amber was discovered? If one were to base a connection between Brianna's timing and exposure to Svelka then that should logically lead to Amber whereby placement was concerned and Svelka as being suspected in area proximity murders (Katie, Delores and Corrie). And this connection would be from Feb 2008 to Aug 2010 when Amber disappeared and that in turn would leave a long time unaccounted for in light of such an audacious connection. Imo.

Where else are we seeing bold possibilities of interpretation whereby placement and timing would be concerned? The indications surrounding the CNP murders were very bold and that brings to mind Victoria Crow Shoe and also, Melissa Letain, (Feb. 13/1987) whereby the CN (formerly known as CNP, absorbed into CN in 1918) reference would be concerned.

A few Letain’s belongings were never recovered, including a CN trucking key chain with a single key, a woman’s watch, a blue leather or leather looking woman’s wallet and a green clutch purse with a gold clasp.

Perhaps we're looking for an Oldman who once worked for CN Trucking (part of the CNTL family). JMO

Unfortunately the EPS website is down ... "Deadmonton ... Last link on the left" which had all the info in one place regarding the deaths of the Edmonton ladies who worked the streets and went missing/murdered. Some of the girls who worked the different areas were found in the same places murdered. At least two were found charred near Rollyview but were working different strips ... Charlene Gauld and Edna Bernard; while Katie Ballantyne was found in the same area uncharred/unburned. Melissa Munch was last seen 118 ave and 95 street and found east of Edmonton near where Monique Pitre was found.
Sounds like different MO's, so different SK's?
Svekla's alleged hunting grounds were near 118 ave and 95th street Edmonton ( this is supposition as it was told to me by a ex-STW) where there was a basement suite he visited regularly when down from up north where he worked. The basement suite housed the STW's. There were allegedly 2 other men he had as friends.
It has been quite confusing trying to piece together where these girls went missing and where found and MO's. If someone has the time ( I am presently involved in studies with a short deadline) to peruse all the old articles and make a database, perhaps when completed could tell more of a story on the perpetrator.
I was never given a name of either of the supposed friends of Svekla but was told one had a Germanic type of name. Following is an article which should have more names of girls missing and murdered:

I just came across this article and it has floored me. There was a website that inspired the seenmelately site by the apparent punk rock princess Bekkie Fugate? did anyone ever meet Bekkie fugate in person? I have a bad feeling about that Calgary site that is talked about in this article that DB thought was a budding serial, killer and I wouldn't be surprised if that budding serial killer was on seenmelately as I had bizarre communications on that site. Someone came on and stopped my research and hacked my account and infiltrated my friendship, and stopped it in its tracks and I fear it was all nefarious. Why did the apparent Bekkie Fugate appear to be a female who appeared to be interested in solving missing people cases and unsolved homicides but infiltrated our accounts and started corruption. this was in 2005 and something was wrong then. I am going through my old files and ...something just doesn't add up.

who is Bekkie and can she/he come forth and identify themselves? has anyone ever met this person in real life?

Boudreau, a 30-year-old Native woman who has beaten a cocaine addiction, became known to Windspeaker in 2001. She had discovered an especially degrading Web site based in Calgary that posted sexually explicit photos of Native women who clearly were living the hard life on the streets. Boudreau recognized some of the women from her days of partying in the seedier bars in downtown Calgary and worried that the Web site operator might be a budding serial killer who would grow bolder as time passed. She went to the media after becoming frustrated by the lack of interest in the matter on the part of the Calgary police.
She was still in recovery and was not identified in our December 2002 story about the Web site, but she played a key role in the story that was the first to draw national attention to the fact that a disproportionate number of Native women are missing across the country. Some activists say as many as 500 Native women are presently unaccounted for.
We also discovered, while talking to a variety of experts for that story, that there is a class of offender that preys on the marginalized women working the streets in Canada, enabled by the attitudes and biases of mainstream society. The experts told us then that these criminals take advantage of the fact that the public and police have less interest in prosecuting crimes against prostitutes than those crimes that are perpetrated against other citizens.
Since the Windspeaker story, several other national media outlets have looked into the problem.

No film in recent decades has stoked as much controversy as Natural Born Killers. No film-maker, if his critics are to be believed, has quite so much blood on his hands as its director, Oliver Stone. In the eight years since its release, Stone's picture has been confidently linked to at least eight murders - from Barras and Edmondson's wild ride, through the Texan kid who decapitated a classmate because he "wanted to be famous, like the natural born killers", to the pair of Paris students who killed three cops and a taxi driver and were later discovered to have the film's poster on their bedroom wall. The ensuing media storm ensured that the British Board of Film Classification sat on the film for six months before passing it for a theatrical release in February 1995.

The name Fugate reminds me of Caril Ann Fugate, who was involved in crimes that apparently inspired the movie Natural Born Killers.

I also remember hearing about a year ago that LE had suspicions at one time that a male SK had a female accomplice that was involved in luring the victims and it was the Edmonton area that was being referred to. I'm trying to find some documentation on that but I think it may have been through a contact I had that was involved at some level of investigation... so this one needs to go as JMO. However; at the time that I heard this it did seem reasonable.

When SK's identify they tend to identify heavily and I would also wonder if a woman were to be involved if she would take the name of Caril (sp) or if her birth name was such, would that then levy the ground of close identification? Just some thoughts.

Are you maybe thinking of the sketch that was released in the Aeilah Saric Auger case? If so, that was Highway of Tears (so not ESK).

You can find that sketch with a google image search of <"saric auger" + sketch>

Here is a link to a documentary about the movie Badlands which was also inspired by the killing spree of Fugate and Charles Starkweather.

At about 25.40 into it a former reporter Del Harder talks about the brutal murder of Carol King. her body was found partially nude, shot in the head and her sexual organs were mutilated. Carol King had apparently been shot, stabbed and sexually assaulted. Del Harding says that he believes that Carill Ann Fugate was responsible for that crime.

Charles had tremendous power over his female partner. Carill Ann Fugate at the age of 14 sexually mutiliated Carol King? I can understand the fascination especially if you are a life time crime buff who has an interest in film and screenplays etc.

This particular crime has shades of the unsolved homicide of Rachel Quinney no?

If I recall correctly Rachel was a good, nice kid who was murdered and sexually mutiliated. I don't recall if any other details have been released like if she was also left partially clothed or if she too had been shot but I will look around and maybe we can start a thread for her.

Oh no, I have seen that sketch and it looks very well done.

However; the suspicions of a female accomplice or that of a female being involved by way of luring came from an attachment to KARE. The numbers (both men and women) in the missing lists are staggering and I believe in this concept we shouldn't forget the men when it comes to a SK, especially one who were to have a female accomplice. Acting together or acting alone, would they ever really change? JMO

I believe that the part rbbm is referring to this article:

http://www.ammsa.com/sites/default/files/html-pages/old-site/windspeaker/topnews-Dec-2002.html#anchor5991023

Fwiw, these two sites sound eerily familiar & may or may not have come up in my past internet sleuthing.
