"Standoff with armed man at Canadian Tire in Timmins ends, suspect vanishes"

Last Updated: June 17, 2015 10:12 PM

From that link:

McGinn said investigators security video showed the man was armed with a “long gun”, but police had not identified him.

But McGinn said there was no evidence the man inside the Canadian Tire was Marshall

I hate it when police make statements like this. If they have not identified the suspect then it could very well be Marshall who broke into the store and stole the firearms. They should not be saying "we have no evidence it's Marshall". Until they know the identity of the suspect they should not be saying "we don't believe it is related to Toronto homicide"

Timmins police say they do not believe suspect who stole firearms from Canadian Tire is related to Toronto homicide. #cbcsby

It's really difficult, nearly impossible, to hitch-hike into northern Ontario from Vaughan. The highways are all 400 series. The only way to get north without hitting a 400 series highway is by going across Manitoulin Island, and that's only accessible by ferry.

If they stole a car and drove it north, they would likely be caught. It's a very long drive to Timmins on low traffic highways. So ... did they go north by another means?

They had three days lead and it doesn't take three days to drive that distance. So, they could've subwayed to downtown, jumped a bus going north then hitchhiked.

The stolen car idea is very plausible, good job!

Any chance they stole this vehicle?

"Toronto police are searching for a stolen cube truck packed with explosives and are warning anyone who finds it to immediately call 911.

Police said the white cube truck contains theatre pyrotechnics and other explosives that should only be handled by professionals"

I would say a VERY good chance! The suspects were last seen in the Islington / Dundas area. Kipling and New Toronto is within easy walking distance!

Yesterday at 3 p.m., before the break-in, the Timmins police posted a few pictures of the 2 suspects without any info.

Why?

Only in Canada would we have a standoff for 13 hours with an empty store. Doh

Here's a picture of the stolen pyrotenics truck.

City police Insp. Mike McGinn had said the store’s alarm went off around 4 a.m. Wednesday and employees found an intruder in the building when they arrived. The employees left and called police, who arrived within minutes, McGinn said.

McGinn said investigators security video showed the man was armed with a “long gun”, but police had not identified him.

But McGinn said there was no evidence the man inside the Canadian Tire was Marshall.

Police declared the standoff over late Wednesday evening but no suspect was found.

What amazes me is how little Toronto Police has done to publicize this vehicle. I know normally police don't bother with stolen vehicles but a van packed with explosive presents a huge security risk to the public. If it was set on fire in Downtown it would result in a mass causality incident. Also since it was stolen within walking distance of the last known location of the Parsi murder suspect it should it should be seen as a possible get away vehicle unless proven otherwise. Just another example of how inept our police are.

Police in Timmins, Ont., say a man remains at large following a day-long standoff at a Canadian Tire store where a suspect was believed to be holed up with at least one high-powered gun.

There was a flurry of social media activity because of ambulances seen in the area. But police say there were no injuries and the ambulances were just being used to transport police from one location to another throughout the day.

Toronto police are searching for a stolen cube truck packed with explosives and are warning anyone who finds it to immediately call 911.

Police said the white cube truck contains theatre pyrotechnics and other explosives that should only be handled by professionals.

Police say the truck was stolen on Sunday between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. near Kipling Avenue and New Toronto Street.

The truck is a 2005 GMC cab-forward, roll-off truck that's carrying a white cube container. It has the license plate: AK5 4132.

This is ridiculous and embarrassing. A 14 hour standoff with no one inside. Helicopters, a swat team all those resources used and he wasn't there at all. Now he has 14 hours to go somewhere else.

The police calling the 2 suspects unsophisticated and dumb, they should really look in their own backyard.

This whole s...t show is just unbelievable.

I am guessing he is now in the bush, possibly with a much nicer campsite. They need to put those helicopters in the sky tomorrow around Timmins.

For tonight, I hope the residents lock their doors.
