[h=1]Amber Alert: ‘Every moment crucial’ in search for abducted LF[/h]
"
We're asking people to be vigilant. Our priority is to find L safe and sound. ... If they see a child anywhere who looks like L, call 911."
We have no information at the moment that could tell us where they might be,” Lt. Jason Allard told reporters at a press briefing held at the junction of Highways 329 and 158, a few metres away where the Ford pick-up truck believed to have been used to transport L and his father had been discovered — empty — a few hours earlier. “We’re using every means we can (locally) to find them. That includes helicopters, that includes tracking dogs and even divers.” Allard made it clear, however, that it was entirely possible that the father and son might now be in another vehicle after having abandoned the pick-up, and that they could be anywhere in Quebec or in Ontario.

It wasn't L and his father at Walmart. Unconfirmed reports that Ugo's cell phone found in East Montreal.

BBM: Also in the same report (and in Global News reports), LE *may* have found a "destroyed" cell phone close to where the truck was found.

****
Extrapolating from the information in this link, based on the 7pm Walmart sighting being erroneous and the truck being found around 2 am, UF might be up to 8.5 hours ahead of LE :(.

That's A LOT of potential distance in an alternative vehicle (speculation), and a fair amount if on foot/going to ground in the woods.

JMO.

The sighting in Maniwaki was between 8:30am and 10:30am this morning. per @CBC_Hayward

What would be considered a credible sighting? Someone who knows them? CCTV?

Police had originally issued a photo around 7 p.m. Thursday showing a man and young boy, pulled from surveillance video at a Walmart in Saint-Eustache.

They were identified as Ugo and L F, but on Friday, the SQ said they no longer believe they are the pair in the photo.

L and his father were last spotted in Saint-Eustache, northwest of Montreal. Hours later, the father's truck was found empty in Lachute. (CBC

LE spokesman did not specify, in the news report I just watched (I have the tv on & and am also checking online and trying to find links asap).

It's all happening very fast in real time.

Police spokeswoman Ann Mathieu said the Amber Alert was still in effect and urged citizens across the province to remain vigilant in the event the pair boarded another vehicle.

"Because these people are on the move and we don't know how they're getting around, we're asking everyone to keep their eyes open," Mathieu said.

Pina Arcamone, director of the Missing Children's Network, says the Amber Alert program has been successful each time its been used since May 2003.

"In each of these cases, all the children to date were recovered within hours of the deployment of the Amber Alert," Arcamone said. "And we're really hoping that with L, we can continue this track record."
Anyone with information is asked to call 911

As above, just adding link. Credible sighting between 8.30 & 10.30 this morning in Manawaki.

That's ~ a 3 hour drive from where the truck was found.

Provincial police say Ugo F, the 41-year-old St. Eustache man who's thought to have abducted his six-year-old son L on Thursday afternoon, was spotted on Friday morning in the town of Maniwaki, about an hour north of Ottawa.

The witness apparently told police the child was not with him at the time.

Just thinking out loud and marking a few points:

I got the Amber Alert just after 7pm/19h last night on FB. I didn't get it on my phone, but my daughter did around the same time (we're relatively local).

MSM reports, and the SQ Facebook page cite ~5.35pm/17h35 as the time L went missing/was taken from Bld Antoine-Séguin in St-Eustache.

Vehicle cited in the AA was found ~2am at the route 158-329 intersection just outside Lachute.

Latest reports have UF sighted between 8.30 - 10.30 this morning in Manawaki, but no sign of Louka.

There are some major gaps in this putative timeline, especially now that the Walmart sighting has been disproved :(.

Not quibbling your post at all, more the various Media :(

IMO & IME, those media sources are underestimating *driving* time, and also, it's misleading for them to say "from Ottawa"; the truck was found in Lachute. Which is ~1 hour, 1 and a half hours from Ottawa, on a good day, with the wind behind me ;).

And anyway, no one (local) would drive via Ottawa to get to Manawaki from Lachute, IMO...

It is weird. Did he drive all the way north and then back down to maniwaki?

Quebec man sought in son's Amber Alert case may be in Ontario
Quebec provincial police spokeswoman Martine Asselin said this afternoon there are reports Ugo Fredette has been seen in Napanee, Ont.

Authorities are looking for a Honda CRV with X78 BSL Quebec plates.

Forensic teams initially inspected a white Ford F250 pickup truck that was abandoned in Lachute, northwest of Montreal. Police then found an abandoned grey Jeep Cherokee they believe Fredette had been driving.

Authorities have confirmed that a woman found dead in a home in Saint-Eustache was the boy's mother. They say Veronique Barbe was married to Fredette and had four children, including three before her relationship with Fredette.

A sign for a home daycare she operated was prominently displayed as forensic teams milled about in front of the residence.

..She said that an Amber Alert would be triggered in Ontario, putting police on high alert and transmitting emergency broadcasts of the latest information that may lead to Fredette and the return of his son.

He has been missing from St-Eustache since at least 5:35 yesterday.
His car was found at around 2:00 in Lachute - about 1 hour drive north from St-Eustache (according to Google maps)
He spent the night in Rouyn Noranda - about 61/2 to 7 hours drive north from Lachute
He was seen in Maniwaki between 8:30 and 10:30 this morning - a little more than 4 hours south from Rouyn Noranda (Now driving a grey 2006 Honda CRV)
He is reported to have been spotted in Napanee - between 4 and 41/2 hours south west from Maniwaki

He seems to have been driving basically in staight lines for more than 15 hours in the last 22 hours.

Is it possible the Rouyn-Noranda sighting was erroneous? It's a very, very long detour if he wanted to get from St. Eustache to Napanee.

I'm surprised he made it through Ottawa undetected.

EDIT: Although, I suppose if Fredette switched cars in Maniwaki (did he?), he might have already made it through Ottawa by the time the SQ (Quebec police) knew which car to look for.
