Casey's Diary Entry for June 21st & Missing Pages #2

I think it was written '08 because of a few things:

1. The '03 is only on the LEFT HAND page. That one might have been written in '03. It does kind of match with the RIGHT HAND page, but as you'll see, I don't think they go together.
2. The tone. I don't know about you, but the RIGHT HAND page doesn't sound like something I would have written in my junior year of high school. Maybe when I graduated and was going off to college - but Casey never graduated, never went off to college. What in the world would have her being so introspective in high school when she didn't graduate and wasn't heading off to college at all? There was nothing big going on around that time of her life, that we know of, that would cause the kind of writing on the RIGHT HAND page. But Killing Caylee, and getting a new, Caylee free life - that would cause to her write what is on the RIGHT HAND page.
3. Tone again - The LEFT HAND page is definitely high school, or at least something a girl would write upon getting a new diary. Notice how many pages are missing between the LEFT HAND page and the RIGHT HAND page. I'm thinking she had this diary since '03, kept a pink pen with it, and only wrote in it sparingly. Five years is a long time to have one diary unless you don't write much in it. Casey doesn't strike me as the kind of girl who writes novel length diaries. I'm not totally sure about this one, but I'm giving the fact that '03 is in the corner the benefit of the doubt.
4. It looks to me like she got rid of the middle of the diary in case her mother ever found it. I'm sure she wrote about her sexcapades and stuff like that. Can't have mom stumbling on that and finding out her innocent little girl isn't innocent at all. The first and last page were vague enough that she thought it could be applied to anything, so she left them there - plus, if she did write that RIGHT HAND page in '08, she definitely was not going to get rid of it.
5. The timing. The RIGHT HAND page date is June 21 - that would be what, five or six days after Caylee's death, around the time she dumped Caylee for good, right? That would be the perfect time for her to be thinking she got away with what she did and contemplating, without the distraction of Caylee's body, for the first time about life without Caylee. It fits perfectly in the timeline of what happened to Caylee. That can't be a coincidence.
6. Timing again - why on earth would she write an entry like that in the summer of '03? I can see maybe writing something like that because of stuff happening during the school year, but it seems odd and out of place to write something like that when school is out for the summer. And it doesn't make sense that she'd meet a new group of people just weeks after school let out. It's not like she went to camp or anything like that that we know of.

To me, the RIGHT HAND page screams '08, after Caylee was dead and dumped. The LEFT HAND page could be from '03, or it could be from '08 - that one I'm not so sure about. But I'm certain about the RIGHT HAND page.

These are all the reasons I keep going back & forth on this one. Also, one reason to rip out all the diary pages before that one might be to say, "All the rest of this crap doesn't matter any more. I'm starting my new life."

For those of you who think she would never have written this down because of the risk that it would become evidence against her, remember that this is the same girl who posted the "everyone lies, everyone dies" poem on her MySpace page in early July for the entire world to see  and also kept a carefully cut-out sticker backing in her Caylee keepsake box, possibly to remind her of the sticker she left on her dead daughter's duct-taped face. :(

I never knew about this!!! I mean of course I knew about THE heart sticker and her vast collection, but I this is the first I have heard about the "carefully cut-out sticker backing" being found in Caylee's keepsake box.

Wow. It blows my mind that it is 2+ yrs later and I still am learning about new (old) evidence.

Beach, I think a picture of the backing was released during discovery. Just do not know where it is. jmo

Thanks LambChop. I recall seeing some pics of backing where other stickers had been removed, but I had no clue that one was discovered cut apart from the sheet and stored in Caylee's keepsake box.

Picture #12 in this slideshow shows the inside of the keepsake box with the cut-out sticker backing sitting on top of an envelope:

There's another photo showing the box in Casey's closet, where you can see that the label on front of the box says "Caylee Marie," but I don't see that photo in this slideshow.

ETA: There was also a photo released of the sticker backing all by itself, and one of the backing next to a ruler. There was a thread called "Heart Shaped Sticker" or something like that in which we went through all this in excruciating detail. :)

Thanks AZ. I think I can see Caylee's name at the very bottom right of the photo (obscured a little by the purple evidence glove).

I've know the thread you are talking about. In fact I read and posted on it. I guess I was too focused on matching the heart sticker to the image on the duct tape and missed other important aspects.

ETA: I just saw the photos in JWG's post! Wow. She took great care cutting out that ONE sticker backing and why on earth would anyone save ONE backing in their daughter's keepsake box? Unless one had their own reason.

Here's a post that showed the "Caylee Marie" keepsake box in its natural habitat:

Notice how the lid is slightly off, as if someone hurriedly picked up just the edge of it to slip a sticker backing in...

Yes! And I'm one of those who believes "the devil is in the details".
But...we don't know who did the cutting, correct? It could have been LE, right?
Sorry, for going OT.

And has that missing star on her Bella Vita tattoo, which lines up with Caylee not living to see the age of three...and was more worried about what she was having for lunch than thinking about Caylee in one of her jailhouse letters...and whenever Caylee is mentioned, always tries to one up everything to get the focus back on her, and said the famous sentence, "All you want is Caylee back", and said calling her friend, who was crying over Caylee, was a big waste...oh and all those plans for a RV trip to Costa Rica and adopting an Irish baby because it's cute...

I could go on and on and ON with how obvious this girl is over the fact that she didn't love Caylee, could care less that she's dead, and just wants to move on with a new life. I am totally not surprised she would write a diary entry about how her old life is over and her new, better one is starting. She is the most obvious girl I've ever heard about in my entire life.

This is a terrific thread! I appreciate too many posts/posters to "quote" and respond individually. Great points made and love the open-minded discussion.

I'm leaning 87.5% toward it being written in 2008. The circumstances are subjective and mostly just a hunch. A gut feeling influenced by what I already know about Casey. Circumstantial, but a lot of it, imo. Wonder how old she was when she started talking in code?....'cause that one entry is "code speak", imo. Just vague enough.....intentionally.

HOWEVER, the points & opinons posted in this thread are the exact same ones that a jury will ponder. Unless the prosecution has more forensic results (that we don't know about yet) to answer the doubts, I don't think the SA should fight to get it in. It carries too much baggage, imo. I might feel differently if there wasn't such an already overwhelming amount of evidence that I know will come in. I don't think the SA needs it that badly.

I reserve the right to change my mind in 15 min. ;) fwiw, I think the jurors would feel the same.

I totally agree Beach!

I just wonder if the whole "sticker" thing is going to come in because it was not sucessfully photographed on the duct tape. I would have expected that one of the last motions request that THAT evidence be thrown out because it was unsupported, similar to the knife!

Curiouser and curiouser.

I have a lot of faith in the jury system...they'll get it RIGHT if all of the TRUE evidence gets in! Everyone wants THE TRUTH!!!

I believe this is the thread AZ is referencing. I remember it well because as she said, we went through it in excruciating detail. IIRC, there was confusion because the FBI notes indicated the sticker was on Q63, but the photo released after the FBI examined it was actually Q64. AZ explained it very well in the first post on the page I linked above. It is a very interesting thread. I don't know, but I'm not convinced it won't be admitted.

I'm gonna bump it so we can continue to talk and stay OT.

No way. Unless you are accusing LE of major evidence tampering.
No...could they have taken the pic after snipping off the backing of a sticker that was similar in shape to the imprint that was found?

Since this was covered at length in the sticker topics I won't go into much detail, but the sticker we have seen in evidence has little to do with the cut out sticker backing. The sticker in evidence that we have seen is puffy, sparkly and a different shape, while the cut out heart (if consistent with the backing) is a hologram sticker. It's possible that another sticker (counterpart to the backing) could still be in evidence from the scene (that has not been released).

Sticker in evidence found at scene:

Respectfully snipped. The only reason I could think a person would keep the backing is if they peeled the sticker off the backing and didn't have a garbage and just threw the backing back from where they got it. I have done that with things in my craft box. But periodically i will go through and throw out the misc trash and wrapping in my craft baskets. That being said, why cut out the sticker and the backing at all? Why not just peel it off? Unless you wanted to transport the sticker somewhere.

I think there may be two parallel discussion about the (OT) sticker. I know I was referring to the one that left residue on the tape.

Ok..no more OT...but to keep it on topic...any stickers on the diary?
