Casey Anthony: WESH tabulates costs of confining cooperative Casey

To mark the second anniversary of Casey Anthony’s indictment, WESH-Ch. 2 on Thursday tabulated the costs of her confinement for 730 straight days.

Housing Anthony at the Orange County Jail costs more than $30,000 a year, WESH’s Bob Kealing reported. He put the overall cost so far at $67,000. She is the 40th longest-serving inmate of 3,657 in the jail complex, Kealing added.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The trial is scheduled to start in May.

A jail spokesman described Anthony as a cooperative inmate. She spends 23 hours of every day isolated in her jail cell, but Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby recently saw her in a jail classroom watching a soap opera. That was a stroke of luck for WESH, which draws on Hornsby for legal analysis of the case. Hornsby said, “I don’t think Casey Anthony has it good by any means.”

This (quoted in red) begs the question ... does ICA spend 23 hours in her jail cell or does she get special treatment and is allowed to watch a LOT of TV?

We know that prison guards were helping ICA pass messages before and some seem to have a soft spot for the chameleon.

Thoughts?

That peeved me off. We know from the Cookie letters that she watched shows. I figured that was part of why the guard got in trouble...for letting her out to watch soaps. But she's still getting out? Unless that IS her one hour a day. That could be, I guess.

I'd suspect it is a perk as reward for good behavior and to keep prisoners quieter by keeping them occupied with TV. In ICA's case though for protection she has her own room and TV ... thus the classroom.

Hopefully she's keeping up on General Hospital:

Is this really true? She has her own TV with free access?

RH said she was sitting on a sofa watching a soap. Until she is sentenced I believe she can only watch TV during her rec time (1 hour a day). jmo

Casey Anthony's Driver's License Suspended
Suspension Comes From Outstanding Court Fees, Fines
POSTED: 4:43 pm EDT October 15, 2010
UPDATED: 5:14 pm EDT October 15, 2010

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony’s driver’s license has officially been suspended for non-payment fines.

According to court records, Anthony owes $381 as a result of her guilty plea in January to theft charges. A court sent the amount this week again to a collection agency.

http://www.wesh.com/r/25405677/detail.html

I don't understand, out of all the money ICA received from precious Caylee's library of photos/videos, why wasn't her court fines placed aside? Not that it really matters for I doubt ICA will be needing to drive anywhere, anytime soon but it's such a paltry amount compared to what Baez had made, before being deemed indigent..Seems priorites are still out of place...JMHO

Casey Anthony defense team wants jail records sealed

Attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason want the court to seal her jail visitation log records as well as her jail commissary and telephone records.

The defense attorneys argue in their new motion that Florida's public records law was not meant to provide for such disclosures and that the release of such records "serves only to embarrass and invade the privacy of the defendant."

They also state in the motion: "Miss Anthony has not been convicted of any of the charges for which she is being held by the Orange County Jail."

Haven't they already argued this motion before? From what I can remember, the result was " The Judge CANNOT change jail policy"

What is the defense trying to hide from the public regarding her visitors and phone calls?

How does a ruling involving "minors" compare to the adult, Casey?

Hornsby said in the comments section that he doesn't think it will make a difference in how the law will be applied from now forward.

I think the important part of the ruling was the court decided the intention of the public records law was not to publicly release telephone calls of accused but not yet convicted citizens, but rather to have transparency in government operations.

So the defense can file motion after motion until they get it right?

Seems such a waste of court time.

red, me
But she IS a convict, she was convicted of felony check fraud and the other related felonies. Has her sentence for those crimes already been served? Isn't she still on probation?

IIRC, Casey was to serve a year on probation. However, because the public does have access to her inmate visitor's log, we can see that she has never met with a probation officer (I guess those would be on there). Perhaps, contact between her and her probation officer are done by phone? Is that possible? .....there are very good reasons for the Florida Sunshine law.

uh oh, quick...somebody get her latest beef jerky order before they close it down on us! haa

I read the article..http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...anthony-jail-records-20101018,0,4064376.story

In the South Florida case the Defendant's are MINORS charged as adults in a 2nd degree murder case.
In the Appeal decision "It found that "an accused child should be able to consult with a parent without the communication becoming a public record."
Also,
The South Florida has had to do with phone records ONLY, right?
The Anthony Defense team is taking that ruling and adding Casey's Jail Visitation Log Records and Commissary orders (Like I really care what she is eating and I don't see Why the Media bothers with it, okay maybe I do..but I still do not care) so they are taking that Appeal Ruling and IMO "running with it"

AZ or, anyone else that knows, does the fact that the Defendants are Minors make a difference in the ruling?

Does the Jail visitation log record extent to Video Visitation..ie: with her family
